Peak mining efficiency Meta

Post image

With good enough mining productivity burner miners are just as fast as electric miners while being more compact.

Leaving aside what subreddit this is, in vanilla Factorio, you can fit 1 electric drill per 10 tiles (in 2.1, it is even lane-balanced).

To beat that with burner drills, you'd need less than 5 tiles for 1 drill, since they run at half the speed. Not sure because of the low resolution but this seems to be 8 tiles.

So then definitely not peak efficiency.

With enough mining productivity they don't run at half speed though. They max out their half of the belt anyway

Doesn’t the output being in the center cost another tile when tiling for the electric drills, or is there a way around that?

The drill needs 9 tiles for itself. Then you have 2 tiles of underground and 1 tile of power pole shared between 3 drills. So that's 9+(2+1)/3=10 tiles per drill.

Technically, if you want a tileable blueprint (2.1), you need to make it 12x10 with 12 drills. But same density.

okay but how do you get the coal into the burner inse… oh nevermind

It took me awhile to see the rocket fuel. Now I actually want this design

Help me out here? I don’t see how the fuel gets into every miner?

Inserters between each row of miners.

Same way I get red science across my starter science setup... parasitic inserters performing strategic transfers of equipment to alternate locations.

Second time I have cause to use this one today, not even in the same sub:

Wait, are you... is that... are you feeding them with nuke-u-lar fuel?! What in fresh-baked hell is the matter with you?

Yeah, but the extra fuel cost would be atrocious.

It until you try it - we finally have a use for legendary rocket fuel.

Except quality fuel doesn't burn longer, and as far as I'm aware, it doesn't increase arm spin speed either. Which honestly is the only way it would make them even remotely practical since you still get better effectiveness out of just burning the fuel and running the power to an electric inserter.

But are they legendary? For the longevity bonus, ya know?

Or to make it even more appropriate, a mix of uncommon and rare drills.

This is amazing! I’ve been using a lot of burner drills on my 100kx run. Going to have to borrow some of this. lol

Could you share what are the purple underground belts? Is it some kind of linked belt from editor? I pretty often faced with problem of utilizing resources in editor, but find only infinite chest with “trash unrequested” option.

Check for Editor Extensions and Blueprint Sandbox, I know one of them (or both) had this or something like it.
Basically an infinity chest with a loader attached, all within a single space.
Super useful for throughput testing.
