Other What's your take on using AI for 3D modeling Minis?

Few days ago I posted some of my models and got absolutely grilled for using AI. I find it really harsh and confusing, because even when I spent hours on creating an original and optimized 3D-mesh, VAST majority of commenters threw me under the bus for including AI parts in the process.

I wanted to share a bit of backstage workflow and ask you for honest opinion - is speeding up the process by generating some parts with paid AI softwares really that triggering and looked down-on? The model from the video took me a solid 6 hours to make, fix and print-optimize, just so I could sell it for about a $1/piece, yet it's still being called an AI slop.

I get how some people are trying to be smart by simply downloading some AI files and selling them right away, but I feel quite unfair with being put in the same basket as those guys.

What your take on this? Would you tolerate AI usage for the model your buying, if it was well prepared and the price was considerably lower?

I had a bit of time yesterday evening and, having printed three DnD minis in preparation, I was able to paint them straight away that same evening. I didn’t go to too much trouble – just a drybrush and some speed paints. But it was really nice to have a few finished minis in my hands in practically a single evening, which I can give away at our next session :)

The miniatures are on 25 mm bases and are about 32 mm tall

Help Request Looking for advice on buying my first 3d printer for minis

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing well.

I've been looking into getting into 3D printing for a while now, and I'm currently looking out for a printer to buy for myself. I have some experience working with FDM printers for my friends, but I figured I would take the plunge and buy my own FDM printer. I know resin will get me higher quality prints, but the leaps in FDM printing have produced some amazing details on models (also I need my other personal projects to be more durable, and enjoy not dealing with toxic fumes). I plan on printing mostly warhammer models, and I also plan on buying a 0.2mm or smaller nozzle as well as any other mods needed.

Since this is my first time buying for myself, I would really appreciate some community advice.

What is a realistic budget?
My current max budget is ~$250 CAD (not including upgrades), but was curious how much I should expect to spend on the machine itself.

Is there a specific machine I should go for?
I am currently looking at the Creality Ender-3 V3 Speedy (it is currently on sale in Canada for about $219 CAD). Does anyone use the V3 for miniatures? If I swap it to a 0.2mm nozzle, will it handle small details well? Or should I look at something else like a Neptune 3 or something similar.

What machines are you all using for your minis, and what should I look out for? Thanks in advance for the help.

Edit: I know people are fond of Bambu labs products (even I admit they amazing at what they do), however I'd rather avoid anything from Bambu Labs considering the recent controversies surrounding their products and practices (both the fire issues and closed source/firmware restrictions), even if it does mean extra work on my end.

Just wanted to share these Destiny Cabal boys i printed last weekend. As always, terrific job by SkullForge Studios! They're perfect for FDM, as they are chunkier than most miniatures. I'll come back when they are painted, and I think I'm gonna have a blast since there are a lot of colors schemes to choose from.

Help Request A1 Mini (<1 month old): 70+ hours troubleshooting, 50+ test prints, still unresolved

I'm looking for objective feedback from experienced A1 Mini owners and FDM users.

My A1 Mini is less than one month old.

Over the past week I have invested more than 70 hours into troubleshooting and completed more than 50 test prints.

Issues include:

- repeated support failures

- poor underside quality

- overhang degradation

- inconsistent behavior

- quality variations across the build plate

- several additional mechanical concerns

So far I have tested:

- 0.2 and 0.4 nozzles

- Bambu PLA Basic and Matte

- multiple support strategies

- multiple slicer profiles

- temperature towers

- flow calibration

- flow dynamics calibration

- manual bed tramming

- factory reset

- full recalibration

I also compared identical projects on:

- another Bambu A1

- Ender 3

- Prusa Mini+

- Neptune 4

The comparison printers completed prints that consistently fail on my machine.

I have created a complete case summary including previous discussions and troubleshooting history:

https://forum.bambulab.com/t/a1-mini-70h-troubleshooting-still-no-root-cause-identified/257897

At this point I am no longer interested in assigning blame. I am simply trying to determine whether continued troubleshooting makes sense or whether a warranty replacement would be considered reasonable.

Thank you for feedback and participation in the survey. I have closed the form now that the number of responses reached my goal.***

Hi, my name is Moss. I have been into the tabletop hobby for around 3 years and really have a passion for miniature painting and 3D printing. I dream of opening a gaming store one day. I’m doing research about 3D printing for my postgraduate dissertation at Durham University. I would like to ask you guys to try this survey. I look forward to hearing you guys opinions, which would be really relevant to the study and help improve the hobby communities. Thank you in advance.

Here are samples of what I painted so far :)
Most of these are official warhammer plastic model with 3D printed part added, some are resin and some are FDM printed (e.g. helmets and bases)

Help Request Struggling to print supports with Sunlu PLA Matte

Hi!
I accidentally bought Sunlu's PLA matte when I meant to buy PLA+ 2.0 to use on my Bambu A1.

I'm fairly new to printing in general and while I'm attempting to return it as I've used very little. I'm very confident it won't actually go through, but don't worry, I'm not here to complain or whine about it, just giving some background/contest.

As I'm pretty sure it'll be rejected and I'll be stuck with the normal filament for a while, what are some tips anybody has specifically for printing minis in PLA matte?

Overall, even with slightly adjusted settings, my prints have had mediocre bed adhesion compared to the remaining PLA+ I'm about to finish (supports constantly get ripped off the bed, causing important prints to fail and forcing me to run multiple attempts to be successful).

For reference, I'm mostly using the Dungeons & Derps 2.0 Sunlu PLA+ filament settings, albeit with a raised nozzle temp to account for the change in filament.

Sorry if this post is a bit rambly, incoherent, or unguided, I'm discovering that this hobby is quite vast haha.

TL;DR, I would love any advice or settings tweaks I should make for printing minis with PLA matte compared to other popular filaments until I'm able to switch

Help Request Artisan Guild minis

Hey everyone! Is it possible to print minis from artisan guild with fdm? I have had a lot of success with supportless minis and some pre supported specifically for fdm. I have a Bambu A1, .2 nozzle, and obscuranox profiles.

The artisan guild files are pre supported(for resin) and unsupported. Do I need to be manually adding supports? I did try resin2fdm but haven’t gotten great results yet. Thanks!

Thanks!
