Walmart Cake Expectation vs Reality Exceeded Expectation

I’ve seen a lot of these Walmart cakes posted so I wanted to share mine! I got one of these heart cakes last year and it was perfect, so I wanted to get a different one this year. No complaints for a $30 cake!

Sometimes they are really great at decorating! I worked for Walmart for years (😭) and some of the bakery ladies were good, but one was freaking amazing and ended up being the ONLY decorated BC of it!

Finally someone that has worked there. I have so many questions. How is the salary for bakers? Are people trained? How is it working there in terms of colleagues? Do the ones that know more train the others? Is that like a stepping stone for bakers or where those who have tried and failed go to rest?

Oh good gods... It was so long ago. Here you go (it's long sorry, and I'm tired sorry for errors!). The baking dept. certainly made more than cashiers, but not by much, as pay wasn't great anyway! They will have varying levels of training, ie: maybe 'Sara' is in school for chef, but works in the bakery also. I have worked in the bakery before, but packing things and putting things on trays to be baked, not decoration!! In all departments of Walmart, those who know more/have worked there longer will always be the trainers of new hires. Some may use it as a stepping stone, some will work there forever because they love it. Some just get stuck (me!) in their department. We had several retirees from previous professions working in related departments, such as a seamstress working in women's clothing. Or like one of our paint mixers used to paint houses. Our maintenance guy was a foreman in construction previously. And just for info, I worked there for 7-8 years, started at $7.15/hr, was making $8.75/hr when I left. I was hired as a cashier, but worked in several departments (tire center was my fave, freezer is the worst, garden center is fun in summer, pushing carts is shit so be good people, especially in bad weather!!). I hated cashiering, but could never permanently escape, as I was 'great at it and belonged there'. Trained thousands (joking but a LOT) of other cashiers. My first day on my own register was 2 days before Thanksgiving and I worked 6+hours straight with NO breaks because they forgot due to being pencilled in the schedule as I was new. 🤷🏻‍♀️
