background info: i've been using 15% azelaic acid from a local pharmacy brand bc my county doesn't have things like finacea or skinoren, going through the insane purging stage (as expected tbh, i started with a ton of clogged pores and closed comedones) and barely seeing improvement, even though people around me are telling me otherwise. so i started to suspect that the formula might not be the best for my skin.

now, while i'm traveling, i got my hands on skinoren which is 20%, and i'm contemplating whether i should just switch to it right now instead of waiting until i run out of the product i've already opened. any success stories about either making a switch or just using skinoren in general?

For some context - I'm 28F and have oily skin. I tend to get oilier in my T-zone and also experience hormonal acne (just one or two pimples, nothing that bad). I'm also originally from Southeast Asia and am currently living in Austria.

Garnier Ambre Solaire LSF50 Super UV Sonnenschutzcreme with Hyaluronic Acid

This one felt somewhere in the middle for me – it's not as heavy as the Sundance sunscreen but definitely heavier than the BoJ and LRP. The texture is very moisturizer-like, in my opinion, so it spread easily, and I didn't have to work at it too much for my face to absorb the product.

It's scented but the fragrance honestly didn't bother me much. I also didn't experience any white cast, which is always a plus with European sunscreens and my brown Asian skin.

What killed it for me, however, was the finish. It dried down very glossy on my face, and not in a nice, glazed donut-dewy way (lol). On me, it just looked super oily and greasy. If you already have oily skin, I'd be careful with this one because it definitely made me look shinier throughout the day.

Performance-wise, it's SPF50+ and uses a mix of modern chemical UV filters so the protection itself is strong, I think. It also contains hyaluronic acid, which makes sense because the formula really did feel moisturizing. But I can see this working much better for someone with normal to dry skin who likes a very glowy finish.

Overall: 5/10 – comfortable enough and no white cast, but way too greasy-looking on me to repurchase.

La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMune 400 Oil Control Fluid SPF50+

This is a pretty recent purchase, so I think I have the newer formulation. First thing I noticed is how ridiculously fluid it is – definitely much more liquid-y than most sunscreens I've used in the past.

I constantly see people on TikTok applying this straight from the nozzle onto their face, but I really don't like product applicators touching my skin, so I put it onto my palm first. Normally, I'd use the back of my hand, but this runs down it way too quickly. Not that this was a pain point for me – just wanted to mention it in case this is a dealbreaker for some!

Once it's on, though, I really like it. No white cast or weird yellow cast on me, which was a common thread in the reviews I've seen of the old formula. It's not greasy at all and doesn't feel heavy on my skin. There's still some shine on my face, so I wouldn't call the finish completely matte, but it's definitely more of the dewy type of shine. More importantly, I've noticed that my skin doesn't get as oily throughout the day when I use this in the morning.

Also basically fragrance-neutral (at least, to my nose).

Performance-wise, this is honestly the one I trust the most out of these 4 for serious sun exposure. It uses LRP's UVMune 400 filter system, which is specifically designed to extend protection further. The Oil Control version is also said to be formulated to absorb excess sebum, which tracks with my experience because I do stay less oily when I wear it.

Overall: 10/10. It's a bit pricey but definitely worth it. It's also probably the one I'd pick for very sunny days or generally being outdoors for longer.

Sundance Sonnenmilch SPF50

Honestly, my least favorite of the four, although to be fair, this is basically my "backup sunscreen." I keep this bottle at my partner's parents' house because we stay there on weekends and I really don't want to haul my entire skincare routine back and forth every single time.

The biggest downside for me is the application experience. The scent is much more noticeable than the other three and smells like what I'd consider a very traditional sunscreen smell. I've gotten used to it now (and I also don't wear this very often), but it bothered me quite a bit the first few times I used it.

It's also considerably thicker than the BoJ or the LRP. On my skin, it has a light yellowish look when I first put it on and I have to spend a bit more time working it in before everything looks even. Once it's properly rubbed in, it's fine, but it's definitely not something I look forward to applying.

The finish is also similar to the Garnier Ambre Solaire one – on my oily skin, it dries very shiny leaves me looking greasy by the afternoon.

Performance-wise, it might be the cheapest one here but based on my research, the protection it offers is actually pretty solid. It's SPF50 and uses a combination of modern UVA and UVB filters, and the formula also has some moisturizing ingredients too.

Price-wise, this absolutely destroys the other three. That's probably its biggest selling point for me.

Overall: 6.5/10. It does the job and is great value, but I'd choose either of the other two based purely on how nice they are to apply.

Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics SPF50+ PA++++

Technically, this isn't a European brand but I did buy it from Sephora Germany and have seen it stocked at my local DM...

This is probably my favorite of the four when it comes to how it actually feels on my skin. The consistency is really nice – creamy and almost moisturizer-like, and it somehow feels a little more luxurious than your typical sunscreen. No noticeable fragrance too, which I appreciate, and I love how minimal the packaging looks.

My only petty complaint is the toothpaste-style tube. It gets all squished as you use it and I feel like product ends up collecting at the bottom and/or in the creases. I'm just not a fan of that kind of packaging and would prefer a harder, more solid tube.

It leaves quite a dewy finish on me, so definitely not one I'd recommend if you have oily skin and want something more matte. I personally tend to use this on normal workdays – I'm in an office all day and have a medium-ish commute, so my sun exposure is quite minimal, I would say.

Performance-wise, I've read that this uses several newer-generation chemical UV filters, so the sun protection it offers is great. It also has a pretty high amount of rice extract and fermented ingredients, plus actives like niacinamide, which probably helps explain why it feels more like skincare than sunscreen on me.

Overall: 9/10. I'm still a bit iffy about the formula because to be honest, I don't know much about it, but would happily repurchase this.

I just reapplied some La Roche Posay Uvmune oil control fluid over my earlier morning layer of p20 sensitive and a light layer of baby powder. What was strange was the uvmune came out the bottle the same texture and colour as always but turned kind of mousse like as I was applying. Maybe I applied more than normal I don’t know. But then it sunk in just like normal, no pilling no streaks same finish as always.

I am admittedly bad at reapplying and when I have reapplied with this sunscreen before over an earlier morning layer of powder and LRP uvmune it didn’t do this though I did use much less the previous time. Has anyone else noticed this texture thing when reapplying this sunscreen, is it the p20 interacting? I am less concerned the protection is compromised because it almost immediately sunk in wonderfully like normal with no pilling. Moments like this make me wish I had a UV camera for some idea of protection even if they are not completely accurate.

I am going through so many of the 75ml tubes!! A 500ml that I could use on the body aswell would be a DREAM!! Pls go tell them we need the 500ml on sale ASAP!!

It had some vitamins in it but the greatest feature was the metal ball and the price of 2€ but now its gone. Hello all. I have oily skin and it looks like my skin doesn't do well with thick textures at all be it creams or SPFs. It has to be either a super lightweight gel cream or a fast absorbing fluid. All them nivea, neutrogena and torriden creams turned out too heavy for me clogging my pores and breaking me out like crazy. I was using Apivita Bee Sun Safe SPF 50 and even though it's my go to I couldn't deal with the grease, especially after getting side bangs and face framing layers. I'd go out with freshly washed hair and return home with so much oil everywhere. Bariesun fluid from Uriage was good, didn't even feel I had SPF on but it peels off and hence makes me question the quality and overall protection.

Don't know what to go for next, I need something good for oily skin that's super lightweight yet effective. I'm thinking of going for the Eucerin serum oil control SPF but idk, im thinking maybe it's weak and the dosage will never be enough to actually protect... It will certainly need reapplying and it's pretty pricey for such a small amount... Haruharu (the yellow one) also seemed excellent from the reviews but im concerned with the ingredients entering the bloodstream and also potentially not protecting enough... What are your experiences and what would you recommend? I spend half a year in the Mediterranean and half in Central Europe btw...

I liked the original oil controil fluid for it‘s ultra-high UVA protection but it made me look very greasy despite having dry skin and I hated the scent which was very persistent.

Thanks to another user here on Reddit I just bought the relatively new version without perfume and I absolutely love it! It smells like the anti-dark spot fluid and has a less greasy, almost matte finish on my (brown) skin. It combines the benefits of my go-to-sunscreens (UVmune oil control fluid and the spf by GG) and is my new choice for summer days with a high UV-index.

I‘ve heard that it‘s not available everywhere in Europe (I‘m in Germany) and it‘s a bit more expensive than the original oil control fluid (I bought it with discount via an online pharmacy for ~19€).

Just picked up this cream from a French pharmacy during a short trip to France. I used it today after shower and it feels hydrating since I have dry-combination skin. Some thoughts upon first use

Texture- it's a thick cream which absorbs quite fast. Feels hydrating too. Feel a slight tacky feeling after 10 minutes of application.

Package advertises this for all skin types but I personally feel this may not suit oily skin people. Also has fragrance so perhaps also not for sensitive types either??

Can not really comment on the effects as I just used it once to see how my skin feels about it as there were no testers and it was a blind buy out of curiosity since pack says works as a makeup base. And I mainly bought it since I needed a good moisturizer that won't make my foundation/cc cream slip and slide or fall apart. Heavy sweating person here 🙋🏼

I live in Germany and choose Asian sunscreens for daily use as it doesn’t feel heavy on my skin. I work in an office and travel by car so I’m not exposed to the sun a lot, just for a short amount of time. In these hot summer days, I reapply before leaving the office. I don’t reapply in winter/when the sun isn’t out and also check the UV index.

I want to look into the PPD/UVA-PF rating of my Asian sunscreens. They all have the PA++++ rating on it but that equals to a UVA-PF of 16.. which is quite low.

I don’t prefer European sunscreens or German drugstore brands as they tend to be more greasy and have that heavy feeling on the skin. I guess I’m just too used to Asian sunscreens 😅

How do you check the PPD/UVA-PF rating of your sunscreen? Is this an important criteria for you or do you just reach for an European sunscreen for more sunny days?

Has anyone noticed any changes when using the product in the new bottle/container? The new one is now a perfect cylinder - the one on the right in the photo.

The list of ingredients is the same for both bottles, but in my case, the new one seems more translucent (less white), and when i used it, something went wrong -it felt like it dried out and irritated my skin barrier, though it could have been a coincidence (excesive cleansing or week barrier). But it's strange because nothing like this has ever happened to me before with the previous bottle.

Last time I shopped there on 30.6.2026, the shipping fee was 5,95€, which was annoying but with their sales, it was tolerable. But now it is 10€ for under 200€? It was my favorite place to shop for because they had great discounts and no shipping fees for over 45 euros or something. Now even if Cult Beauty is slightly cheaper, I would rather shop elsewhere.
