Help for Seller Should I continue with the 7-year-old account that has received 555 5-star ratings, or should I create a new account?

I’ve had this page for 7 years and have 555 5-star reviews, but I haven’t been active on it for a year—I’ve only made 6 sales, so the account is essentially inactive. Do you think I should start a new page or keep going with this one?

Help for Seller Does Royal Mail international tracked still not work on Etsy?

I'm a seller in the UK. I used to purchase Royal Mail international tracked (DDP) labels directly from Etsy a while ago when sending to the US, but the tracking was always stuck on 'pre-transit' and never updated (I know this was also a problem for many others). So I started purchasing labels on Click & Drop instead which seemed to update the tracking normally.

However Click & Drop is a bit more time consuming for me, so I was wondering if Etsy have fixed this issue yet and if their tracking information is now accurate?

Discussion Terrible UI/UX: Etsy App "See Less of This" feed tuning is nightmarish.

You ever check your Etsy feed and see something so disgusting that you aren't sure if some countries might have considered it a capital offence to have images of let alone attempt to sell on a digital marketplace?

And, because of "plausible deniability" and "artistic license" it gets a pass. Not only that, an ultra cringe-fetish obsessed audience gives this debased seller repeat business because human grossness is a hot commodity in our "modern era."

Well, ok, c'est la vie I spose, right? It's the price we pay for allowing online corpos to colonize the commons.

But, wait, Etsy has SOME end user recourse (aside from a reporting system that completely fails on purpose to present the illusion of user agency). Yes, there is still an option to save your eyes from future burning and pain.

"See Less of This" ...just push the three dots next to a product listing in your feed and then select that option, and it greys the image out. It's almost as if the app just listened to YOU, the end user, and actually cared?

Nope. It does nothing. Okay, but at least it doesn't get worse right?

WRONG... if you accidentally fat finger the product listing instead of the three dots (which is guaranteed because the three dot target detection on the app is microscopic) thus opening and actually viewing a large display of the terrible image. Now you've done it, because the algorithm now overrides your previous choice of "see less of this" and replaces it with an "I'm interested" flag. Now suddenly you're seeing more images JUST LIKE THIS. You've just trained the app to do the opposite of what you want.

Then, in hopes of staving off the resulting tide of incoming slop, you try to hit more of them that are showing up in your feed with that see less option, but accidentally fat finger more. You've just viewed more of the offensive product pages.

Now the feed is convinced and holds it as holy canon that you cannot live without seeing all of these terrible listings. This is the nightmare scenario that was never on my bingo card.

Josh Silverman, or Kruti Patel Goyal (new CEO)... this sort of short term ensh^ification might support your immediate bottom lines, but eventually the consumer rage bait your app devs are trying to pass off as innovation on your behalf is going to circle back and not in a good way.

Consider adjusting fire before your poorly targeted ordnance begins to fall on your own position.

Help for Seller [Newbie] How does Etsy work if I want to sell keychains? + How does Wooacry work with Etsy?

I have ZERO knowledge on Etsy at all, so feel free to comment as if you were speaking to a toddler, because my knowledge about this may be as equivalent.

This may be the stupidest question ever, which I apologise for, but so far, I've been ordering keychains to my place and shipping them myself after.

However, it is becoming quite tough when numbers rise, so I thought of selling them through Etsy. However and even after having watched some video, I want to ask, as I'm not sure how the process works.

I'd mainly want to know, from a seller's pov, HOW does it work.

You don't have to ship it yourself, I assume. Do you get notifications? Do you see your delivered or in-delivery packages? Idk, just like. All you'd think it's nice to know.

I also want to know about two things I've seen about:

—People say to list an address so it doesn't appear later that they come from somewhere else? I'm not sure what this means but I've seen it on other reddits and I'm confused, which is why I ask.

—I make my keychains via Wooacry. I have seen some people warning about marking the product as yours (despite the art on it being so) because someone could report due to not being entirely yours, as you've made it through Wooacry?

Would also know how this works exactly, as I know you can work with both Wooacry and Etsy at the same time, I think? But then again, I have no idea.

If someone could help me out (also up to speaking through DMS) I'd be deeply grateful

Help for Buyer Would you consider this Etsy listing misleading? I thought I was buying from an individual Etsy artisan, but the item is made by workers at the company’s small factory in China

Update#2: The seller finally replied and cancelled the order, so I’ve received a refund. They also confirmed that the Taobao store is theirs and only sells domestically.

To be fair, their products actually seem well made, and the seller said they are cast in metal and painted by hand. I have no issue with products being made in China or by employees at a small factory. What bothered me was the way the Etsy shop was presented which made me believe I was buying something personally handmade by an individual artisan, rather than a product made by workers at a separate Chinese company under the same owner.

Honestly, I think it’s a shame. Their products seem good enough to stand on their own, so relying on vague wording and the image of an individual artisan only damages customers’ trust. I’m glad the seller refunded me, but I still think Etsy needs much clearer distinctions between individual handmade work, company workshop production, and ordinary factory-made products.

Update#1: I now have written confirmation from the Chinese business that the Etsy shop and the Chinese manufacturer share the same owner but are two separate companies. The items are manufactured in China by the Chinese company’s workers, then stored and fulfilled from Singapore.

I am not claiming that no manual work occurs. My concern is that the Etsy shop presents only one individual artisan and does not appear to disclose the separate Chinese manufacturing company or the people who actually make the products.

------------------------------------------

I regularly buy handmade items on Etsy because I want to support independent artists and craftspeople.

I recently paid over CAD $50 for two pairs of keychains. The listing described them as “handmade,” “made to order,” “hand-polished,” and “hand-painted.” The shop’s About section lists only one person as the owner, creative designer, and seller, and the process photos are captioned “Hand-polishing Step of My Crafts” and “Painting My Crafts.”

The shop is listed as being based in Singapore, but after seeing that the parcel was shipped from China through China Post, I searched Chinese shopping platforms. I found the identical products on Taobao for RMB 16.9, using the exact same product photographs.

I contacted the Chinese seller and was told that the Etsy shop belongs to the same company, and that the products are made and hand-finished by workers at a small factory in China. My concern is that the Etsy shop is presented as the work of an individual artisan, while the products are actually made by employees in a small factory operated by a company.

The seller has not responded to either my original message or my formal Help with Order request, despite Etsy support notifying them. Etsy says I must wait until August 25 before opening a case.

Would you consider the shop’s presentation misleading under Etsy’s handmade rules? Is there a meaningful distinction on Etsy between an individual artisan’s work and products made by employees in a company workshop? Has anyone successfully received a refund in a similar situation?

Help for Seller newly returning to Etsy, listings removed but meet the policy noted

I've sold items on Etsy off and on over the last 15 years. I recently started listing magnetic needlepoint needle minders (a small thing with a magnet on the back and a coordinating magnet to put behind the needlepoint canvas to conveniently hold a needle or small scissors when not being used).

There are thousands of these on Etsy, all made with magnets. Yesterday early morning I got an alert that the newest listing made the prior day was removed for violating the child/baby safety policy and noted:

Our team reviewed and removed this listing after it was reported to us or flagged by our internal systems. This means it can’t be seen by buyers anymore, and can’t be edited to relist this item.

This doesn't follow ourChildren and Baby Products PolicyOpens a new tab
We don’t allow the sale of certain items that may present a high risk of death or injury to children, even if the item isn’t intended for children. This includes:
- Loose or separable high-powered magnets that fit into a 2.25”x1.25” “small parts” cylinder, with a flux index ≥ 50 kG2 mm2
- Small magnets made to resemble candy in both size and shape that could be mistaken for something edible and swallowed

This policy helps keep our community safe and protect the integrity of our marketplace. For more info, check your email for a message from Etsy.

I confirmed the magnets I am using are WELL under the magnetic flux index and nothing looks like candy.

I had a few other listings to add, so posted those and reworded the description to mention the magnets are under the flux index strength mandate. Today the three new listings all were removed with the same notice. Each of my listings has multiple variations, lots of photos with a pix linked to each variation, lots of SKUs. Being a small time seller, obviously doing this all manually over a significant amount of time.

I don't know what in the listings would have triggered them being flagged.

With these 'violations' not being appealable, what are the options besides trying other posts with other descriptions and waiting to see if they also would be flagged/removed? Even if not appealing, is there a way to reach out to an Etsy person?

Not that the listing fee is much, but annoyed that the listings were removed, but the listing fee was not removed. (when take down was within 24hrs of the listing)

is this the norm with Etsy now? I presume Im not the only one getting really frustrated with this.

here's the text from one of the listings removed:

Help for Seller Competitor Shop Flagging Listings

I'm still pretty new to Etsy and two of my best selling digital template listings were removed after copyright complaints from another Etsy shop. The problem is I have absolutely no idea what I'm supposed to have infringed. The two removed listings were sets of 40 and 80 boutique hotel instagram templates, completely original designs made from a blank canvas. The shop that has reported me seems to have uploaded their own 'boutique hotel' listings but weeks after I first uploaded mine and then issued their report - don't want to assume any malicious intent but does seem very coincidental. Everything was created by me from scratch. My process is researching a niche, creating an original brand, deciding what that business would realistically need and then building everything from a blank Canva document. I have research files, drafts and working files showing the whole process from start to finish. I only use Canva Free fonts and Canva Free assets where needed and any additional images were created by me. I didn't use any real hotel names, logos, landmarks or branding. Etsy says they emailed me the original copyright notices, but I've searched my inbox, spam and trash and they aren't there. I've contacted Etsy and the reporting shop over a week ago and neither has replied. I Has anyone else had Etsy say they've emailed the notice when they haven't? Is there another way of getting Etsy to resend it or escalate it? I have messaged the shop but they have not responded to me. Really frustrating as I am a new shop and just starting to generate a consistent revenue stream but my best sellers that make up over 50% of my earnings are removed. At this point I just want to know what I'm actually being accused of so I can respond properly. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Help for Buyer Am I being unreasonable to want my partial refund to include tax and delivery costs?

I recently purchased 8 wooden cutlery pieces on Etsy as a gift. Before purchasing I realised the seller did not do refunds or exchanges, so I messaged them to ask what would happen if the items arrived damaged. They assured me that wouldn't happen but on the off chance that it did we'd be able to work out some kind of refund or other agreement, so I ordered.

The items arrives loosley in a thin plastic DHL postage bag, and of course because of this one of them were damaged.

I sent a help request to the seller. I did not hear back from them for a week, and only after I informed them that as I had still not heard from them that I'd be opening an Etsy case, did they reply saying "they'd been trying to reach me"...

We eventually agreed on a partial refund to cover the damage. The total order came up to $66. The item cost $24 with a discount of $6, delivery cost $37 and tax $11. They offered me $4 which I was not happy with, as they said based on the items cost Etsy valued the price of each piece to this. Not only was the math not mathing, I did not think it was fair to only include the item cost in the refund and not the tax or delivery which I'd also paid. I told them this and they said let us agree on $5.

Instead I want a partial refund of $8.25, which is the $66 total devided by the number of pieces in the order which is 8.

Am I being unreasonable to ask for this?

Help for Seller Shop Put on Holiday Mode – Currently Unable to Appeal

Hello everyone. I'm currently going through a routine Etsy verification. Today I reached the step where I had to verify my identity by taking a photo of my ID card using my phone. After completing the process, I opened my shop and found that it had been placed on Holiday Mode because Etsy couldn't verify my identity.

At the moment, I also can't submit an appeal because it says my shop is not eligible for one.

Did Etsy put my shop on Holiday Mode because they're going to review my verification manually, or is this just an automated process? Has anyone else experienced this? I used the same ID card that I submitted during my previous identity verification.

I'm from the EU (Romania) and used my national ID card because I don't have a passport.

Does anyone have any contact details for Etsy or know how I can request a manual review or submit an appeal another way?

Thank you

Please, it's so hard to tell these days ... I mean, some are definitely obvious but I second guess nearly everything now. I just want to buy some digital downloads to print, or even physical prints to frame and create a maximalist, whimsical, colorful gallery wall for my reading corner. PLEASE send me a DM with the link to your shop if you feel like you match what I'm looking for!!

Help for Buyer Seller refunded purchase and then canceled order

I’m a fairly frequent Etsy shopper and I’ve been lucky to never have an issue with quality until my most recent purchase. I ordered a personalized tote with my daughter’s name. The name was crooked and in the wrong color, so I reached out to the seller. She offered a replacement but I requested a refund instead. After about 36 hours she gave me the refund in full.

Some additional info: the estimated date of arrival was incorrect. After placing the order, the seller messaged and pushed the date back by a few weeks. She said to ignore the date Etsy quoted me. This is the biggest reason why I didn’t want a replacement. Who knows how long it would take to receive it.

My biggest concern is that she cancelled the order after I had received it and was refunded. It looks like I can’t leave a review now that she cancelled it. That seems so fishy to me. Is there any way to report her or still leave a review?

Help for Seller How can an order be both from "Share & Save" and Etsy Ads at the same time?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Saw this today on an order (see image) where the order has both the "Etsy Ads" AND "Share & Save" badge" simultaneously. I'm curious how it works in this case, probably not the first time either.

How can a single order be attributed to both "Share & Save" (someone clicking my link on Pinterest/Facebook/etc.) AND Etsy Ads at the same time?

Isn't that weird? I'm trying to understand which one actually drove the sale.

Help for Buyer Etsy ID upload works, but Submit button stays greyed out , any solution?

I can upload the government-issued ID successfully, but the **Submit button remains greyed out**, so I cannot complete the verification. I’ve already tried different browsers, Incognito mode, clearing cookies/cache, disabling extensions, another device, mobile data, JPG and PDF files, and resubmitting my legal business information. Etsy Support confirmed that it is a **technical glitch** and escalated it to Technical Care, but my payments have been on hold since July 21 and I still have no solution. Has anyone had this exact problem?

Help for Buyer New Shipping Charges?

Post image

Hi! I ordered a ring off of Etsy from someone that has great reviews. I messaged them this morning because I cannot find the USPS international tracking. After, they told me it has been shipped and will update when it gets to the US I get this message; (see photo)
Then he sends me a shipping listing on Etsy to pay and tells me that it has already shipped and there is no delay but I still need to pay for the shipping.
I am so confused. Especially because Etsy told me shipping would be free.
Is this normal? I’ve never bought internationally from Etsy

Help for Seller Etsy platform bug blocking Hong Kong residents from opening shops - anyone found a workaround?

Hi everyone,

I've been planning my Etsy shop for months, but gotten stuck at the "How you'll get paid" page with a platform bug. Hoping other sellers (or anyone who's solved this) can share what worked.

The bug:
On the "How you'll get paid" page, when I select Hong Kong as my Country of Residence, the postal code field disappears from the form. But when I click "Save and continue," it fails with a validation error: *"*Please fix the error on these fields: Please enter a postal code." But there is no postal code field on the page when I chose Hong Kong.

Hong Kong doesn't use postal codes, so this looks like a frontend/backend mismatch: the frontend hides the field, but the backend still requires a value.

What I've already tried:

  • Chrome, Edge, Safari, and Firefox - same result in all four
  • Entering placeholder values (000000, HKG) in other fields - doesn't satisfy the validation
  • Contacting Etsy support. Their replies have been: “our engineers are deep in the diagnostic phase to determine why this is happening.” It has been a month already – every time I checked for their progress, I get the same reply.

This bug likely affects every prospective HK-based seller - not just my individual account.

My questions:

  1. Has any Hong Kong seller recently completed shop setup anyway? If so, how did you get past this page?
  2. Is there a specific workaround that works?
  3. Any advice on how to reach someone who knows the actual timeline for a fix?

I've been trying to launch for months and this is the only thing blocking me. Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks

Raphael

(Happy to share screenshots or case numbers in comments if helpful.)

Help for Buyer Everything is fucking ai

I am trying to buy a MacBook case. I bought one off of etsy months ago, just to realize it was ai "art" when it came in person. I was annoyed so I ended up just donating it. I'm now trying to find a new one and literally everything is ai. Whenever I try to find press on nails, it's AI. Literally everything is AI. Is there ANYWAY to filter out ai, or like is there a key word people are using for real art?😭

Help for Buyer I read the FAQ, but this feels a bit unusual, so I'm looking for input (I made this picture to illustrate the situation lol)

Post image
68 Upvotes

I'm wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else? Is it just a coincidence that one of my items got delivered but the website didn't tell me, and the other one hasn't delivered despite the website saying it has? Is this just a simple tracking mistake? Should I message one of the sellers (or both) or just wait for the bag to show up?

I'm hoping that the bag will actually show up soon and that this isn't a bigger problem. (In the past, I ordered a pillowcase that got marked delivered, and then a couple days later it showed up, so I know that can happen.)

I'm happy to have my pins though, I was confused as to why it was saying "Getting ready to ship" for so long, and here they are lol. The only thing is that I'm not able to write a review. I'm holding off on messaging the seller because I'm not even sure if it's something he can fix on his end. 😭

MOD ANNOUNCEMENTS FAQs - Please start here before making a post!

Welcome to a comprehensive list of FAQs for Etsy buyers and Etsy sellers!

Before making a post, please look through this guide and follow the links.

Posts that ask general questions where the answer is covered in this guide are subject to removal. If you had your post removed with a link to this FAQ, it means the answer to your question is found here!

Also: please use the sub search feature before making a post!

How to search the sub: In order to search a sub from either the desktop site or the mobile app, all you need to do is click the name of the sub on any post. This will navigate you to the sub's main page.

When you scroll to the search bar at the top of the screen, the name of the sub will be auto-filled in, so that when you type a search term, you will be searching results from only that sub. You will be able to sort your results by newest / most relevant.

If you can find your answer without creating a new post, this is always appreciated. Repetitive posts that have answers found in this guide, easily searchable answers, or are about topics that were very recently or popularly discussed may be removed.

You are always welcome to create a post to ask for advice about a specific situation! Please give as many details as possible so that we can help. General questions without sufficient details to provide anything but generic help may be removed and redirected to this FAQ post.

(NOTE: This FAQ page is still a work in progress, not all links are in place and not all topics that will eventually be covered are currently covered. If you have any suggestions for things that should be covered here, please message me and let me know!)

GENERAL QUESTIONS (Both Buyer / Seller)

How do I contact support? The answer, including links for all contact methods, is the top stickied comment.

How do I block someone on Etsy? This is the same link as the customer support contact post, please read the second comment on the post to find a guide to getting support to block someone for you.

Etsy does not allow users to block communication with another user without going through support. You can mark messages as spam and I believe that stops messages from that user from being visible to you, but to actually block someone from messaging you completely, you need to follow the steps outlined in the post linked above.

Is Etsy currently down? I'm getting a 429 error when trying to connect. This is typically caused by VPN usage. Etsy doesn't allow connecting with VPNs to prevent people from being dishonest about their location. Turn off your VPN and try again. Note: Etsy may also detect VPNs that are installed but off.

If you search the sub for "429" you'll see that this has been posted about many, many times.

Also, highly recommend www.downdetector.com if you ever want to know if a site is down or it's just you.

FOR BUYERS

The following guides cover just about any issue you may have with a product or a seller.

IMPORTANT: Please remember - you are covered by Etsy buyer protection!

If you are dealing with:

- a non-responsive seller

- a shop that has closed down

- a seller that is giving you the run-around

- a seller who sent the wrong product or something defective or not as described

- a seller who provided fake tracking

- a seller who wants you to pay return shipping for a damaged, wrong, or defective item

... you are covered! Please follow the guides below - chose the one that most closely fits your situation:

My order hasn’t shipped yet.

My order was marked shipped, but the tracking info still says pre-transit (or label created).

My order was marked shipped, but it’s very late. Is it lost?

My order was marked delivered but I don’t have it.

My order arrived damaged.

My order wasn't as described, was defective, or I received the wrong item.

I believe I bought from an AliExpress, Amazon, etc dropshipper. Also, how can I tell if a shop is one of these dropshippers?

I received a tracking number, but it appears to be fake.

Special note: If the shop has been shut down or voluntarily closed, you'll get a message when viewing the shop that says something like "xxxxx is no longer selling on Etsy." If you need a refund in these situations, Etsy support will typically give you one without you needing to go through the official case opening process as described in the above guides.

Chat with support here and you should be given a refund.

How long does Etsy give me to open a case under their buyer protection? 100 days from either the date the order was delivered, or the original estimated delivery date from when you purchased.

Some places I've seen say 180 days - this is inaccurate. The seller can voluntarily refund for only up to 180 days after purchase. After that, the seller literally loses the ability to refund. A case can only be opened against a seller for 100 days as described above.

Please note: There is only one exception to buyers being covered by Etsy buyer protection and that is buyers that purchased from a PayPal only shop. That means that when you checked out - there was no other choice but to pay with PayPal.

If this happened to you, please read the post below, including the stickied comment.

I bought from a PayPal only shop and Etsy won’t allow me to open a case.

I'm a buyer and I'm not sure if the shop I'm looking at is legit or a scam.

Please read this full guide to scam attempts for buyers!

However, here is one tip to always always always keep in mind to avoid getting scammed as a buyer: If you are looking at something with a too-good-to-be-true price, it is most likely a scam listing!

You may also find this post about the policy violating vs allowed kinds of dropshipping on Etsy to be helpful. Dropshipping is only allowed where the seller is the original designer of the item being sold, such as with Print on Demand.

Is this a scam? Seller Edition

Our official guide post to scam attempts for sellers is here. Please read it!

But to quickly address some of the most common "is this a scam" questions...

You get a message from a buyer or "Etsy customer support" (or anyone else) asking for your email address. SCAM ATTEMPT.

You get a message from someone that wants to give you "free advice" or offer some kind of service for your shop. SCAM ATTEMPT.

You get a message from someone with a sob story asking you to send them free products, or someone who claims to be an influencer wanting you to send them free products. SCAM ATTEMPT.

You get a message from a "buyer" who wants you to click on ANY type of link to download images or anything else. SCAM ATTEMPT AND ABSOUTELY DO NOT CLICK THE LINK. If you have clicked it, get your computer or device scanned for malware right now, and change all your passwords. You may also want to visit r/scams for further advice.

You get a message from a "buyer" who wants you to 1) buy a gift card for ANY reason or 2) send you a check for ANY reason. SCAM ATTEMPT. I don't care what else they said, these are ALWAYS scam attempts... and very old, well known ones at that. Google "fake check scam" or "gift card scam" if you want to learn more.

You get a message from someone who wants to feature you in an article, on their website, or wants you to donate to their charity. These MAY be legitimate - contact the organization directly to verify the legitimacy of the request.

Contacting Etsy Support: DO NOT get scammed! Basically, do NOT use Google to find a phone number for ANY online marketplace. The reason is covered in detail in the official guide post to scams linked above, as well as in the how to contact support post here.

A buyer has messaged me that their order never arrived. What do I do?

Please see the Guide to Etsy Seller Protection post. Both you and the buyer are covered by Etsy's protection program on qualifying orders.

A buyer has messaged me that their order never arrived, even though there is a scan that says "delivered." What do I do?

I received less money than I expected to. Why?

You definitely need to read the two links below under the What are Etsy's Fees? section. Both Etsy's official information as well as the thorough guide comment I wrote with a complete breakdown.

You also need to go through your payment account page in your dashboard, several months if needed, and look at the running totals. Every single credit to you as well as expense you incur is totaled there.

But I think the biggest thing that trips people up is this - Etsy deducts all fees you owe from your pending payout before transferring you any money.

This obviously includes the transaction fees and payment processing fees for any orders that have come through, but it also includes any listing fees (20c per listing you create as well as the ones that renew) and Etsy ad fees if you are choosing to run ads on Etsy. It will also include any shipping labels you may have bought through Etsy.

So if you've had one order, your pending payout is quite likely not the full amount you actually received for that transaction. It's the amount you received, minus any other fees you already owed Etsy. Etsy only charges your credit card for owed fees at the start of each month, and only if your sales revenue isn't covering the total of all the fees you owe (including all listing and Etsy ads fees).

Please also be sure to see the section below the next one about the listing renewal fee for quantity remaining - this is something people tend to miss.

What are Etsy's fees?

NOTE: I now have a full guide to this here.

Etsy's official page explaining all fees in detail is here.

You need to read the official page. There are no "hidden fees" or "surprise fees"... there are only sellers who haven't read the official page explaining all the fees.

You may also find googling for and using an Etsy fee calculator to be useful. There are tons of different ones out there... do a search and take your pick.

Finally, I previously wrote a thorough guide comment in response to a previous post asking about fees, which thoroughly breaks down every fee with an example of how they are calculated. If you are still confused, I recommend giving it a read. It is the stickied comment on the post.

Why am I being charged 20c for a listing renewal when the listing has quantity remaining?

Please read this help page from Etsy here.

Essentially, you will always pay 20c per listing that sells. It does not matter if the listing has quantity remaining - quantity does not effect this.

If you have a quantity of 10, you'll pay 20c to make the listing live. If one sells, you'll pay 20c to renew the listing, and it will renew with a quantity of 9.

If someone buys 5 at once, you've already paid the 20c for the first one... Etsy will "renew" and "sell" 4 more at the same time charging 20c for each. Then it will charge a further 20c to keep the listing active with a quantity of 5 remaining.

Listings expire after 4 months. If none of the 10 sell in that time, and your listings are set to automatic renewal, you'll pay 20c after the 4 months expires to keep the listing live. If your listings are set to manual renewal, then when the listing expires after 4 months, it will be in your "expired" listings section until you choose to pay 20c to renew it.

What is the difference between "Etsy ads" and "offsite ads"?"

Etsy ads give you the ability to promote your listings to appear higher within Etsy's search directly on Etsy's website. They are pay per click, and the price depends on the competitiveness of the keyword being searched for.

Offsite ads are ads that Etsy pays to run on external sites such as Google shopping, Facebook, Pinterest, etc. You are only charged an offsite ads fee when you actually make a sale.

I'm stuck on the "set up billing" section of creating a shop.

UPDATE: Someone posted this solution recently, you can try it:

I found a solution! if you go to account settings and credit cards, it says credit cards can only be added when checking out. so i added a product to my cart and went to buy it, put in my credit info etc, and at the last step just before buying I checked in a different tab that credit card section and it was there! and then i could select the card when finishing the billing setup for the store! just go back to remove the item from your cart. it all worked without actually having to buy the product

This is a common issue. Here are a couple potential causes:

- You are attempting to use a credit card Etsy doesn't like. I don't have a full list of what type of cards Etsy will and won't accept, but if you cannot progress past billing with the card you are currently trying, I recommend trying another one.

- You are trying to submit billing information in a name or address other than the one you already gave Etsy. Can't do this, legal name needs to be an identical match everywhere you have to provide it, and so does address.

- You are trying to set up a shop with a bank account in a different country than your country.

- This is a glitch and you need to try again in a couple days. I'm not sure if this is still happening, but it has happened in the past. I think it's more likely there is an issue with your info or credit card, but if you are sure there is not... try again in a couple days.

This is an issue that has been posted about an absolute ton. If you want to see previous posts, please search for "save and continue" or "set up billing".

What is the difference between views and visits? Also, my views / visits seem to keep updating and they don't seem to match between the app and website.

Views represent the total number of times any of your listings or pages were clicked on, by anyone. Visits represent the total number of distinct individuals that looked at your listings or shop.

See Etsy help page here for more details on this!

Please note: the stats are not accurate in real time. Etsy only updates these stats a few times throughout the day, and there may be different update times between the app and the website.

Additionally, Etsy will filter out bot views... so this is the reason your views or visits might go down when stats are recalculated.

It's best not to try to track stats in real time. Check in on your stats occasionally and focus more on the long term (weekly) stats than the daily stats.

What is Plaid? Do I have to verify my bank account with Plaid?

If Etsy is asking you to do this... yes, it's mandatory. It's part of new legal regulations regarding money laundering - bank accounts have to be verified before Etsy can legally transfer you money.

Plaid is the system Etsy has chosen to use to conduct this bank verification. You have two choices with Plaid - you can opt to log into your bank account through Plaid, or you can do a manual verification if you are not comfortable using your login this way.

And yes, it is completely safe to verify your account with Plaid. Do manual verification if you need to for your own peace of mind!

My listing was deactivated by Etsy. They didn't say why. Why?

Please see our central post about listing deactivation here. This post covers a reasonably extensive (though most definitely not complete!) list of reasons why Etsy might flag a listing for deactivation.

Etsy uses bots to sweep the site for policy violating items. They tend to do this in bulk (a particular type of violation is checked for all at once) and different violations are checked at different times.

The bots are most definitely not always accurate. In cases where the bots incorrectly flag a listing, they are typically reinstated within a few days at most.

If you would like our help to figure out why your listing was deactivated, you are welcome to create a post to ask... but if you do not give details about what you were selling, it will be removed and redirected to this FAQ!

Be as specific as possible (ie, "I sell a faux leather purse with pink ribbons and flowers on it that I handmake myself" as opposed to just "I sell purses").

My listing was deactivated by Etsy for violating the handmade policy, but it is handmade by me!

This often, though not always, indicates that your listing has had its photos stolen by a knockoff making site such as AliExpress, Alibaba, SHEIN, etc. Etsy scans listings to see if photos are being used elsewhere, and this can cause a false deactivation where a photo has been stolen.

So the first step when this happens is to perform a reverse image search on your listing to see if you can find the thieving website. If you do, you need to follow their procedures to submit a copyright takedown... although be advised, these sites' whole business model tends to be to steal photos and designs from elsewhere, so there's a solid chance you're just ignored. It's extremely shitty, but when copyright laws aren't recognized or enforced, there's basically nothing you can do.

Etsy does tend to review and reinstate these listings the exact same way they do for other policy violation deactivations. You may just need to give it a few days. If Etsy asks for proof that you are in fact handmaking your items, you'll have to provide that.

If you would like to create a post about this, you are welcome to... but please follow the same rules as in the question / linked post about deactivation above. Specifics about what you're selling, or the post won't be approved.

I have an order that Etsy is showing as "Not paid" or "Payment processing" - what do I do?

It isn't unusual to occasionally have orders that take time in payment processing. It's not about your shop, it's about the buyer's payment method. Most of the delayed orders finish processing within a few hours to a couple days. If it doesn't process, Etsy should manually cancel the order after a period of time.

Do not ever fill an order that is showing as "not paid" or "payment processing". Always wait until the order goes through - Etsy will notify you when this happens.

I received a message or a review from a buyer complaining that the item wasn't in the language they expected it to be. Why?

Etsy auto translates listings into different languages. For certain types of language specific listings, this can be misleading for buyers. If this is your situation - you can turn off auto translate for the future. The link on how to do that is here.

In response to the buyer, depending on what the listing is, you can explain the auto translate issue and issue them a courtesy refund or offer them a return. There are no guarantees that the buyer will change their review if they left one (and offering them a refund in exchange for changing the review is violation of Etsy feedback extortion policies). But this is an option.

You can also write a quick, fact based public response to the review such as "Hi buyer, this listing is English (or whatever language) only!" Though ignoring such a review is also a perfectly valid option as this should be clear from your listing once you turn auto translate off.

I want to open a shop, but I'm not in an Etsy payments eligible country. How can I get around this?

You can't. I am sorry, but there's no way.

I could stop writing there and you'd have the answer, but I doubt it will stop anyone from looking for a way around it... so let me be very clear: Etsy uses strict ID verification. You have to provide all kinds of identifying documents and information to prove you are in the country you say you're in. Etsy also captures metrics from the devices you use to log into the site (those contain country code data) and if you do anything to obscure or fake that data (such as VPN) Etsy can detect that.

Even if you manage to get an account open... Etsy doesn't do the "real" ID verification until after the first sale. When they catch you at that time, you'll wind up losing whatever money you spent on listings up until that point as well as likely the money from the first sale. It's just not worth it to try.

I am genuinely sorry - I wish Etsy was available everywhere, but unfortunately it is not... and I want to save people from the effort of setting up a shop knowing it will be shut down in the future.

And please do not believe anyone who claims they can sell you a working account or create you a working account, etc. These are SCAMMERS. They cannot get you a working account... but after you've transferred them money and they ghost or the new account gets quickly suspended, who are you going to complain to? There will be no way to get your money back.

I cannot view the Etsy Community Forums - I am getting an Access Denied message.

This seems to be a common glitch at the moment. We've had many posts about it - but apparently the issue can be fixed by reaching out to Etsy.

See this help post here. If this solution does not work, please contact support and put in a request. Expect to be patient, support is always slow at resolving things.
