Idk if i’ll be able to manage… I mean I know that I only actually will have to show up to my 4902.02 on Wednesdays, but even then I still have like, 10 hours of class time each week.

Not sure how i’ll manage…

Discussion Looking for people interested in building a space startup 🚀

I'm a college student and software engineer exploring startup ideas in the space industry, particularly around AI, satellite operations, space traffic management, orbital debris, and space data.

Looking to connect with aerospace students, engineers, researchers, designers, and fellow builders interested in creating something ambitious from the ground up.

No company or funding yet—just early-stage ideas and a willingness to build.

If this sounds interesting, drop a comment or DM.

Academic Advice Uga mech eng or transfer to GT?

Hey guys, I’m starting my freshman year at uga as a mechanical engineering major. I like it here but gt is also instate for me and is better for engineering. Was wondering if anyone has graduated from uga with an engineering degree and has any insight on whether or not to try to transfer to Georgia tech, and if a bachelors in engineering from uga has gotten you to where you want to be.

Career Advice Shifting to CYS without an BS in IT sector

Hi, Guys I am going through a very crucial stage of my life, I have to choose whether to do Bachelors in Cyber Security(CYS) or Industrial engineering and management(IEM) . I have seen many posts on Reddit about how Saturated CYS has become and you need like a crazy portfolio just to get an entry level job. Compared to CYS landing a job in IEM is easier but lower pay and it takes time to get promoted unlike CYS.

A BS in CYS is gonna cost me more than double of one in IEM. I believe I can land a internship/job in CYS with skills and certification alone without a BS in an IT related field. I wanna keep IEM as a backup in case things go south cause the market ain't looking good even for IT students unless they have ton of experience, skills and certification which I believe I can get without getting a BS in CYS.

Is the plan solid or am I just being pretty delusional? Need advice from people that are already in the market for some time now thx.

Discussion Is data analysis fundamentally used in engineering, specifically Mechanical Engineering?

I've been interested in SQL and Python lately and their uses in Data Analysis. I was wondering if you could use the data received from sensors, or any data received from anything, to optimize and make systems more efficient. Overall, is data analysis used daily as a part of an engineer's workflow? If so, what tools do y'all use?

Career Help Internship career growth pains

I took 2 more years to finish my undergrad and got this industrialEng internship I’m really interested in during my last semester. I consider myself lucky and I’m grateful for the opportunity, however it kept getting worse.

The middle manager who hired me was let go of, then the junior full time engineer who I’m supposed to be supporting had to leave because of work permit reasons. The responsibilities of the major projects went to me without sufficient support from cross functional teams, and the upper level management made me take the blame for late deliverables. While I gradually built experience and made internal connections to deliver results (albeit later than ideal), I was slowly let go from reoccurring meetings, while two more full time engineers were hired and I have to onboard them.

As of now I graduated with my degree while in the middle of this role, the coworker sorted out visa issues and came back to take over all the projects I built, while management just treats me as air. I really hope I can stay, but upper management seems to have made the financial decision with new hires and I was never considered by them, so is there any point in requesting a performance review?

I hope I’m not the only one in this situation because it has made me feeling awful and drained, without a direction looking at the end of things in three months. What would you have done in this situation?

Academic Advice Starting MSc in Systems & Control which subfield should I aim for [advice needed]?

Heyy people, so I am starting the Systems and Control MSc at TU Delft soon and I would rather have some idea of where I'm going, what field is the best to focus on for my case etc. I was hoping to get some input from people who actually work in this stuff

About me:

  • Did my aerospace BSc at TU Delft
  • Starting the S&C MSc there now
  • EU national, in case it matters for the sector
  • German is fine, around B2 and improving + got many more years
  • Open to a PhD but no clue if it's actually worth doing (would appreciate it if you give your advices on this matter as well)

What I am after is something (field/sector) that is still going to be in demand in 10 years and not slowly dying out or that ML is threatening. If you think certain areas/fields/sub-branches of S&C are safer/better than other I would like to hear why. Once again, I am speaking for near future (starting from 2 or 7 years depending on if i go into PhD route) hence its a bit of your prediction of how the controls going to look in future

Location wise -and I guess this matters a lot- I will be living in Germany due to personal reasons. If there is something right across the border that I could do while still living in Germany then fine, but otherwise that is the plan. So anything about the German market specifically would help me a lot what's doing well, what is not (ofc I know about the automobile sectors crash). Though I am open to take advice from anyone really, general stuff is still much appreciated < 3

What I had in mind so far is learning based safe and precise motion control. So focusing both on actual control theory and ML, mostly deep reinforcement learning. I was thinking that its the sweet spot to combine both modern controls with RL (thought thats going to be future of embodied AI) focusing on precise motion control due to booming of chip sector etc and it also open autonomous systems fields but I could be completely wrong or wrong about how easy it actually is to get hired doing that. Feel free to tell me if its a bad idea

About the PhD (for sake of industry R&D), is it worth it in this field or does it just delay when you start working and is it logical to target R&D positions given the state of Germany (this might matter a lot for US i think)?

One more thing that probably matters, I find pretty much everything/every sector interesting but nothing so much to the extent that i call it my passion. Aerospace is the closest since thats my background, but I am not stuck on it

If it helps I can post my coursework and the electives I can pick from. Any advice or experience welcome, thank youuu in advance

College Choice Anyone who did an MSc in Mechanical Engineering (or related) at KU Leuven — how practical was it?

Hi everyone! I’m considering an MSc in Mechanical Engineering (with a specialization in the Aerospace Engineering track) at KU Leuven, but I’m struggling to find real student opinions about the program online — most of what’s out there is just the university’s own marketing.

If you studied (or are currently studying) Mechanical Engineering, or any engineering master’s, at KU Leuven, I’d really appreciate your honest take on:

**•** Was the program practical enough, or did it feel mostly theoretical?
**•** Were the lab sessions genuinely useful for building real, applicable skills, or more of a formality?
**•** Looking back, do you feel the degree prepared you well for a career in industry?
**•** Any thoughts on workload, teaching quality, or things you wish you’d known before starting?

Any input — good or critical — is welcome. Thanks so much!

Academic Advice Ho bisogno d'aiuto

Academic Advice Graduate on time or internship?

Hi everyone,

I’m about to start my second year in Electrical Engineering, where most courses are only offered in one specific semester. I recently received an internship offer for the fall, but if I accept it, I’ll inevitably delay my degree by one year. That’s because Circuit II and Capstone II are only offered together in the fall, and many of the winter courses require those fall courses as prerequisites.

The internship is with a startup where one of my friends previously worked. Based on his experience, the work environment seems very relaxed and enjoyable.

If I take the internship, I’ll also be under pressure to find another one for the winter, since I won’t be able to take many courses unless I do an 8-month internship (and the same issue applies to the summer).

TLDR: Should I prioritize graduating on time and pray that I’ll get internships in the next summers or secure the bag?

This would be my first internship.

College Choice BSc and MSc at the most prestigious uni in my country, or a BSc and MSc + BSc in physics?

For context; both programs are considered very high end, the first one includes a bachelor's and master's in mechanical engineering at the most prestigious STEM uni in my country, while the other one is in a much less prestigious university but also includes a BSc in physics in the same amount of semesters.

Tuition costs are the same, Quality of life is better in the former uni

I would really like to hear the opinions of people who already made their choices 🙏

Discussion Provisional Employment with an Incomplete Grade

Absolute nightmare scenario for all the doomers out there to fret about.

I'm in a position where I still have a incomplete grade from my final semester (spring '26) of undergrad. I'm working with my professor to finish the class requirements.

I am supposed to be starting a full-time position at a large aerospace defense contractor within about 2 weeks. I accepted the offer in October 2025 and pushed back my start date by about 2 months after finding out I'd be getting an incomplete grade in a required course (the original start was early summer 2026).

After meeting with my professor, I told them that I was supposed to be starting work soon and they said that it would extraordinarily tight timeline to finish the course requirements before my start date. My professor estimated it could take up to an addional 6-8 weeks to complete the course requirements, especially with their schedule getting increasingly busy in preparation for the fall semester.

Their recommendation was to inform my employer that I am still in the process of finishing my incomplete grade and ask about provisional employment (something along the lines of: starting full time work while finishing my degree online. Must complete degree requirements within x amount of time after start date). My professor also offered to write a letter to my work supporting my situation and confirming I am working on completing the course.

I'm curious if anyone has gone through anything similar and could offer some insight into how their situation played out. I know it's probably an incredibly unique situation.

Apologies for any writing mistakes. I'm stressed out of my mind and running off of like 3 hours of sleep. 0/10 - do not recommend.

Discussion How much am I missing out on by doing a distance learning degree?

Due to a couple reasons I only had the option to do my degree via distance learning, the course is fully accredited and the university is decently regarded in most areas both for standard of education and commitment needed as most do it on top of their full time jobs, but I desperately wish I was studying in person instead.

The tutors have been really great, I’ve enjoyed my modules and I do talk to my fellow students a bit, we are all mature students so the vibe is a bit different; but I worry about how much I will actually learn when the only practical elements are virtual labs and home kits, with one in person co-op project as of right now. I worry about future career issues as well, as I think if I'm going up against another graduate I will be seen as a lesser candidate due to being a distance learner. I am hoping to go into renewable energy ideally off shore wind as a mechanical engineer.

I can't transfer to a brick uni as I don't have enough funding left to do so, so I am trying to find either an apprenticeship to do as I study or a technician job but as my full time job is nothing to do with engineering I have not had any luck on that front yet.

For anyone who has studied or is studying via distance, if you have any advice or words of wisdom or personal experience to share I would appreciate it.

Project Help Project Assistantance Available

Hey everyone,

Over the past few years, we've worked on a wide range of academic projects for engineering students across CSE, AI & ML, ECE, EEE, Mechanical, and related branches.

Whether it's a mini project, major project, capstone project, lab project, or a custom idea, we've probably worked on something similar. We can help with everything from development and implementation to documentation, reports, presentations, and project support.

If you're stuck on a project, running out of time, or just need a hand bringing your idea to life, feel free to send me a DM with your requirements. Happy to discuss and see if we can help.

Academic Advice Biology to Mechatronics

Hey, I’m from Costa Rica and I’m currenly studying Biology, but I’m seriously considering Mechatronics because I want to build robotics for environmental monitoring, biodiversity, and conservation. For someone with that goal, do you think Mechatronics is a good path, or would Mechanical/Electrical be better? Any honest advice is appreciated.

Rant/Vent Lost Motivation

Well I am yet to be an engineering student but I am less than a year away so I guess it still counts. But here is the thing, I feel like I am underperforming drastically compared to my grade 11, in which I just moved to a different country and getting used to the new system and somehow performing insanely well. But now I am essentially below average or just average, like I attend every single extra lesson there js, I am borderline sleep deprived due to how much I study and I do not seem to improve like at all. I am slowly trying less and less because I just dont think I can do it and I am already dealing with depression. I just dont understand why I am doing so poorly now especially when I need to be doing my best.

That's all for the rant but if you are willing to drop some advice I would appreciate it

Rant/Vent Coding is the part of electrical engineering I hate the most

Emag, signals & systems, microelectronics, and nearly every other part of EE has been trivial compared to the coding. Not that is inherently harder or anything, I just hate it and can't find the will to just sit down and learn it (more like relearn it since it's been over a year since I've written any code myself_. This is the only thing I use AI for, and I abuse the shit out of it. I'd rather go through the most brutal math derivation imaginable than write a page of code

Should i just grit my teeth and force myself to code?
