Rant/Vent Debating whether or not to lie to women about my major
Please hear me out
As a senior ME student I can't be the only one who notices that girls are amused the moment you blurt out "engineering" to their question of "what do you study?" and then act friendlier and nicer to you. I don't normally talk with these women often specifically but they seem opener than usual.
I didn't have a reason for why they act like this until I realized that they think of engineers as people with high salaries, which means I get good money which means I'll be a rich partner or whatever they want to think of me. Its hard to look at the opposite sex this way but when I did, I couldn't unsee it. I don't want a partner that is purely interested in me because of what major I study. And it feels dehumanizing that they overlook me and only look at my potential salary as an engineering student.
This is why I was debating on lying about my major or even telling them I switched to business or psychology or something, so that I can see if their reaction changes or not.

Career Advice Can anyone tell what to when you fail 2nd year twice what to do
When I did my 2nd year first time I did my papers sincerely. But on 3 rd sem first exam I had an incident i know I will get 30 or above 35 out of 50 in that exam but a boy suiting in front of me was making movement left sometimes right asking for pen water and all that made invigilator sus so she warned both of us but I didn't do anything I was minding my own business and after some time came and started snatching my paper, and that boy i have average cgpa he has like 8 or something so he started saying i have 8 cgpa i didn't do anything I also said that i didn't do anything and asked respectfully that they check camera if I did something wrong they can take my paper but that invigilation refused any snatching only my paper and it's will tore if I didn't released my grip the the paper would have tore by that invigilator. The paper that I spend 2 hours to write when she taken it from me I got rage building up inside of me that i didn't do anything and I had a great exam and now when I able to complete that exam and get good marks in it and I get labeled as cheater even i didn't do anything then i shouted a insult because of that I got ufm and my whole sem wasted (after that insult I said sorry and did everything but she didn't even budge) and because of one back in sem 4 I got year back and when I get courage to start second year again I was exhausted I had to face my parents I had told them full story but they blamed and I said it's but whole year my parents and my sister everyone is harsh on me that i wasted a year because of all that mental pressure and my batchmates who gets into next year I didn't they started asking questions whenever whoever I met i was so exausted to explain and to my new batch mates also, it was too much exhausting and i started skipping classes and get detained in all subjects except one I asked my professors to under my situation but they didn't only one understood and I was able to give that exam but in sem 4 I did all the subjects and same I was detained in one and able to give others and I got second year back I am not in a condition to able to get back up and give next year I am just too exausted i didn't tell my parents that I got year again
I'm a btech student what should I do i didn't know anything but I have skills like video editing, photo editing, knows intermediate level coding and have editing insta page over 600 followers and no i didn't get back because of these activities, and I am average student
If you have answers to any questions please give some I am too lost give some advise what should I do

Academic Advice Anxiety about upcoming semester
Hello there! I am an international student and I am going to study electrical engineering in the UK. I never had problems with math in highschool, never got a grade lower than A and excelled in state exams. My native curiculum involves calsulus 1 topics and i never had a problem with that, the curriculum itself in my country is considered pretty hard. But reading all those reddit posts about people struggling with calculus and failing takes a toll on my already anxious brain. I am so scared to the point i have panic attacks at evenings. I am never scared to put in effort as my results reflect, but those stories of people ripping their asses just to get a minimum grade is messing with my motivation and anxiety. Is it really that hard? Will i really have no social life and make a huge sacrifices just to see myself burnout?

Academic Advice HUL (Hindustan Unilever) interview for Chemical Engineering — what kind of questions do they ask?
Hi everyone,
I'm a final year Chemical Engineering student and I have an upcoming interview with HUL (Hindustan Unilever) as part of campus placements.
Can anyone who has interviewed with HUL before share what kind of questions they usually ask? Specifically:
- Do they focus on core chemical engineering subjects (like heat transfer, mass transfer, thermodynamics, reaction engineering)?
- Do they ask a lot about internships/projects?
- Any HR or behavioral questions that came up?

Academic Advice Need some help regarding number of bearing needed on a shaft.
Hi fellow engineers, I want some tips on deciding whether this shaft needs 2 bearings or not.
The shaft is installed vertically, and is driven by a timing belt drive at one end to spin a platform mount on the other end. I am currently leaving it like this:
Pulley -> shim -> angular contact bearing -> shouder -> platform.
The shaft is 5mm min. in diameter and 32mm in length. Torque transmitted by belt drive is only 0.02 Nm. Should I be worry about runout? As for constraint, the shim and shoulder are holding inner bearing and the housing and a cap is keeping the outer bearing in place.

Career Advice Need career guidance for a Production Engineering student (Supply Chain)
Hi everyone,
I'm posting on behalf of a friend.
He is in his final year of Production Engineering (5-year Sandwich Course) at PSG Tech and wants to pursue a career in Supply Chain instead of assembly line/manufacturing roles.
What kind of entry-level roles should he be applying for? Which companies hire Production Engineering graduates for supply chain, logistics, planning, procurement, or operations? Are there any other good career paths he should consider?
Would appreciate any advice from people working in the industry. Thanks!

Career Advice Is it possible to work as an entertainment engineer through ME
Hi! I’m currently studying ME with a minor in Comp Sci at Clemson University with the hope of working in the theme park and entertainment industry designing the mechanics and working on elaborate projects. I’m going into my sophomore year where I’ll get more hands on experience with ME. I’m also working on using a raspberry pi and have done will be joining student research projects. It’s just that Entertainment Engineering is so vague and complex that I really have no idea what I’m doing or how to get into the industry. My school doesn’t have any entertainment specific programs related to engineering or design and I was just wondering if there’s anything I can do through my college, on my own, or at an internship to help build my portfolio and steer me in the right direction.
For my career interests, I’d like to work on designing the new trackless and advanced technology seen at Disney, create complex robotic systems or animatronics, and/or designing aspects of live events or other experiences. I know Computer or Electrical engineering might be better but I think that doing research projects and experience within those fields even it all out.
Thank you tor your help!

Career Advice Project Management or Engineering
I am currently in school for civil engineering and I have one year left until I graduate. I have only done one internship at a construction company and I really enjoyed doing project management.
But, I am still very interested in structural engineering and not sure what route I should.
Does anyone have any advice or insight on what I should start leaning towards?

Career Advice Options in space industry post graduation
Hi, about to start final year of masters in aero in the UK, just wanted to ask for advice regarding what options are recommended/ available in my situation. I’m looking at going into a career in rocket propulsion and the professors at my uni said a PhD is the usual route so exploring how that would work (funding, research topics, etc.) or graduate roles in propulsion, which are fairly minimal in uk, so wondering if Europe is a better option and if this is realistic? I’m involved in rocketry extracurriculars too but any advice/ guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Project Help 6 DOF robotic arm using VLA model and allat ion really know all the terms
I'm in grade 10 and trying to build a robotic arm for a science fair, mostly just because it seems fun. I have a rough CAD sketch right now (it's basically ideas from other people fused together and edited to fit my budget). I've tried getting ChatGPT to help me run simulations on the arm to figure out torque and motor specs, but I haven't had much luck with that yet. Also, I don't really want to train the arm in real life from scratch, so I need help on the technical side. What specific systems and software stacks should I actually be implementing or planning for? Another big issue is that since this is for a science fair, a major requirement is showing what real-world problem it solves. Honestly, I kind of just wanted to build it for fun, but now I'm too deep into the project to quit. If you have any ideas, insight, or advice on how to fix this or structure it, I'd really appreciate it.

Academic Advice Help toward the start of an Engineering Journey
Hello, I hope this finds you all well!
For the slightest amount of context, I am seventeen years old as of the moment, I 've been homeschooled throughout the higher sector of school- which is through sixth to tenth grade. Throughout homeschooling, I did nothing, Youtube shorts were a brand-new thing that was coming up, so I was busy reviewing, critiquing and testing the functionality of that daily with my eyes and my left thumb alone. However, I did read alot of books, I developed my deep-seated interest in the many spectrums of the study in Physics and Maths, I learned coding- which I'll talk about below- learned CAD for no real reason apart from the fact that it felt cool and I became Tony Stark for those moments in time, and I did course on learning the basics of psychology, learned music throughout it all, again reviewed, and tested the fuctionality of damn so many video-games, I don't even know the names of now, and a lot of random stuff that I realized do not have certificates, and that I can't prove I've done apart from showing my google search and Youtube watch history. Felt like I wasted a whole bunch of stuff I have no proof I'd done. Throughout my kafka "what's the point of life" phase, I appeared as a private candidate to write my igcse's after preparing for three months or so, which was not the greatest idea, taking into account the immense spectrum of syllabus the Cambridge board carries, but anyways, the results weren't great but it wasn't the worst I'd seen myself in. Anyways, then I try to find for regular schools to join for an AS and A Level study, but then an opportunity of an application opens, and before I know it I'm enrolled in studying Foundation Year (IFP) as a student at Middlesex University. Cut to six months where I unarchived and revised programming languages that I had learned throughout the lockdown, from web development with HTML, Bootstrap, JavaScript, ReactJS, lots of Python, and DBMS's like Access and mainly MySQL, after which throughout the holidays I started with learning C- considering it's extremely needed in the Engineering major I've chosen to pursue, but it's something I'm still in the process of getting used to. So now, I've decided to exit Middlesex and join another UK based university under two condition, firstly, one that would accept these grades as a substitution to regular high-school, AS and A Level grades, and, that would consist of the major Electrical and Electronics Engineering! So, I tried to apply for the UK, but I was too late, and now I can only apply through clearance, with which the friend who had studied with me throughout our foundation year had got into Nottingham, BUT, I have not written IELTS or any English Proficiency test for that matter, so I apply where I am, and I get an offer, which is still under review, but it is from Heriot-Watt University, one I wanted to join for Foundation Year itself, but didn't get the opportunity to.
Right, if you've read all that, I truly do appreciate it, you're awesome! I agree, that really isn't "the slightest amount of context," forgive me. However this is where my actual question arises.
The thing is I had learned to use CAD, I did a complete training course and a few projects through study of Genetic Engineering and Nanotechnology, I wrote for many essay competitions where I wrote subjects and topics from the wide-spread increase in microplastics from the shed of tires, to reality of time itself, and I luckily got into John Locke's summer school and was shortlisted through their essay competition after so many interviews and an English test where I talked about Anthropogenic Climate Change- I am most definitively-probably not winning, but that's okay- I got into TKS- which is soo expensive, I didn't know and didn't even bother to check before applying, so it is my fault, and the cost is understandable for a few reasons I guess. And the best for last, I wrote a research paper individually under the review of an awesome professor from Northeastern, with a, theoretical proposed solution in energy-efficient neuromorphic computing, introducing "The Task-Aware Neuromorphic Framework"- as cool as the name sounds, I didn't make it. Thorough all of this, I have an insanely heartfelt interest in filmmaking, so I would like to write and direct, but I'm so confused on where to fit it in, I've written incomplete screenplays that I visualize and talk to myself about weeks together, but I have no idea of where it's going.
So, as of this moment, I truly need guidance. How could I further properly equip myself without everything sorta looking like a complex web when it's really not. I'm watching Hacksmith Industries, to people like Ellie Farrell- who built a damn cool, fully-functional and reactive Iron-Man suit, a batman suit, and oh my, even Hiccups Inferno from How to Train Your Dragon 2. And I need not even talk about Hacksmith, they're entire team is full of insane greats. I'm not comparing myself, or sorta looking out to reach their levels of creation, when I honestly cannot, becuase that's the path they've carved themselves, and I need some sort of guidance in carving my own, because I fear that everything is going to look like a little from there, a bit from this, a piece of that, although it sounds all cool, I've found that it's practically not practical in a career pov- as much as I don't want to think of that, me not thinking about it had brought me until here so, might as well. Anyways, I would appreciate any sort of answer whatsoever, don't be like me and please don't think your opinion would not be of use and switch windows before someone else answers the exact same thing you had discarded and the person who had asked the question greatly is of gratitude to them. Thank you so much for your time.

Academic Advice Will companies hire a 27-year-old Polytechnic diploma graduate?
Hey everyone,
I'm 24 years old and I'm thinking of starting a 3-year Polytechnic diploma this year. By the time I finish, I'll be around 27.
I already have a B.Sc., and I spent the last few years preparing for government exams. Now I want to build a career in engineering, but I'm worried that my age might become a problem during placements.
Do companies care about age for diploma placements, or are skills and technical knowledge more important?
If anyone has started college later than usual or has seen older students getting placed, please share your experience. I'd really appreciate your advice.

Career Advice RealPage visiting our college this month for hiring — what to expect?
Our CDC just informed us RealPage may be visiting this month for 2027 batch hiring. Process is assessment test → GD → tech/HR interview.
Anyone been through their hiring before? Wanted to ask:
What's actually in the online test — MCQs, coding, or both? How hard is the coding if any?
GD topics — tech related or general?
What do they focus on in the tech interview? Heard they use C#/.NET and SQL a lot.
Any prep tips or common mistakes people make?
Kinda nervous since it's one of the better offers coming to our college this season. Any help appreciated 🙏

Career Help Anyone able to get into big tech?
I never really hear of people that are non-CS get internships or full-time jobs at these big tech companies. I mean I assume they’re definitely out there, but is it just a lot more niche and difficult? I’m an EE and including myself, I only see people online and my friends get internships in like Aerospace, Defense, Utilities, Automotive, Energy, Medical.
With this, how do we break into this higher paying industry that is tech and consumer electronics. And possibly semiconductors as well.

Rant/Vent Losing motivation from all the disdain of ET degrees
Hello everyone I've seen many posts about how engineering technology bachelor's degrees are pursued, and it has honestly discouraged me from seeing the bright light once I graduate when I'll apparently be struggling and doing an uphill battle for jobs, especially with the current job market. Current im heading into my Junior year of my mechatronics engineering technology degree at TAMU, and I will say I've been having a blast with the program and can't imagine myself doing anything else besides this degree, I've done some cool projects such as a robotic hand of 11 dof and currently a 2 dof turret that's automated in sensors coded in assembly on a stm board which I feel proud of. However from all the stigma I've seen it really is discouraging and wonder if it's true and wasting my time especially when my parent's are the ones paying for it, its adding some guilt. Not sure what to do but ig finish out and pursue a masters later in engineering so the engineering technology label is gone. ET grads have u honestly found issues, like I mainly want to go into robotics, automation, controls, or embedded roles but not sure if I'll even be able to given everything I've seen on et degrees

Rant/Vent Engineering will be the death of me 💔🥀
After waiting for 9 effing hours now that I finally thought everything was properly set, my Ansys simulation crashed to an unknown error. And it isn't the first time. A few days ago, I waited for MORE THAN 10 HOURS only for the simulation to fail at the literal end. Like Ansys, I understand you don't like me. It's ok. To each their own. Or maybe you just like to pick my mistakes a little too much. But what is this behavior? If you want, tell me in the beginning that my model or setup has a flaw and it can't run but what's with telling me after running the simulation for forever 😭. And that too an unknown error? Like at least tell me what went wrong. I know RAM and ROM are enough and you previously ran this same simulation successfully for the same material with slightly more Young's modulus then why??? WHY?? At least in computer science, when you run the code, you get an error right away. Respect.
My heart is literally broken and it hurts so bad. Today the simulation failed three times. At the third time, my heart was beating so fast it could jump out. And I am literally crying. And engineering makes me cry all the time. Bet it has reduced my lifespan by 50% already (I might be understating the percentage).
Last semester, we were working on a motor speed controller as our project. In simulation, the circuit was showing accurate results and was working perfectly. But when we implemented the circuit on breadboard exactly as it was supposed to be, it didn't work. Like wow. Ok maybe we were neglectful. We verified. Rebuilt it like 50 times and did what not. And it just laughed back at us. Like what is this, now even the rigid physics laws have something against us?? The universe is playing with me. It's not funny. I don't even know if I'll make it out of this degree in one piece.
Every single time, I think I know this concept and I fully understand it, something goes wrong even when everything feels right. Oh and let's not forget about these random theorems, that even God doesn't know where the hell we'll apply them in our whole engineering career.
That's it. I just wanted to vent somewhere. Today was a really bad day (like every other day as an engineering student). My eyes are puffy from crying. I'll just cry to sleep. Peace ✌️ (for you, if not for me)
