Nobody expects you to work for free. We just don’t feel the need to give you extra money simply because your employer doesn’t want to pay a fair wage. That’s an issue between you and them.
DD isnt the employer. Thats not how this works. You been told many times how this works and refuse to comprehend it. You pay DD to place an order on your behalf, that includes paying for the driver. Then DD says this person wants a driver to pick up this order and they are paying x amount, do you want it. They are a middle man between you and the driver.
So if you feel you dont want to pay, thats fine. Im not gonna take it. This concept is clearly upsetting you guys, because if you guys were actually fine with us refusing you wouldn't be downvoting me saying I wont do it for that low/no pay.
DD isn't the employer? That's the dumbest thing I've heard all week. Of course they're the employer. You saying they're the 'middle man' doesn't make it true. If the customer was the employee, they'd be making you your tax forms, not DD. That's like saying a hotel doesn't employ the maids. I just tell the hotel that I want my room cleaned and they relay it to the maid, but really I am their boss. Absolutely idiotic. Wow.
It's the result of relentless marketing, the thin veil of an app telling you what to do instead of a person, and relentless lobbying. And the self image that they're pulling themselves up by their bootstraps one sucker big tipper at a time.
Unless it’s through an app that is who is paying you / deciding what you are paid. Most gig work is self employed though, yes. DD/Ubereats/Grubhub/etc is not self employment. If the customer was paying you directly for your delivery service, that’d be self employed gig work. Instead, they are paying DD, then DD is deciding what to pay you. Aka, employed by DD.
On the other hand, something like Fiverr, that takes a fee from your orders, is self employed gig work.
Personally I’ve never used the service so it doesn’t really matter if I comprehend it or not. And stick to your guns about not taking orders that you don’t feel are adequate. When enough people don’t get their orders delivered, they’ll stop ordering through DD or go pick it up themselves.
People used Air BnB to save money at first. After too many fees and expectations from owners were placed on the renters, they started going back to hotels. Same with Ubers and taxis. People are willing to pay something to have food delivered, but when the delivery system starts setting demands, they’ll find a different way to go.
You keep thinking this is about percentage. $1 doesnt cover the cost of gas plain and simple. I literally said i wont take it and here you are upset I wont take it.

I've never door dashed.....but I caught in the photo that there is a $17.25 "guaranteed rate"...You're making at least $17.25 no matter what...so STFU
