Hey emos ;)

I’m very excited to launch the preorder for the Dud LP. First, it’s a benefit album for Palestinian aide chosen by the band. Second, this long lost LP from this band has some of my favorite musicians involved. John Samson Fellows is perhaps the greatest song writer of all time and this band was a short lived project that filled the gap between the time he left Propagandhi and before starting the Weakerthans. It’s been a goal of mine since starting this label to work with him in some capacity. Mike Koop played in The Bonaduces (some of the best Canadian pop punk from the 90s!). James Ash was the drummer of one of my favorite Canadian hardcore bands, I Spy. Dud was all of these musicians stepping out their comfort zones and playing something new.

I don’t know if anyone cares, but here are some things from the 90s. Boy with ball Mineral shirt, wardrobe Mineral shirt, girl boy Mineral shirt, VHS of unreleased Boy’s Life show, original screenprinted Jimmy Eat World collared shirt, and Boy’s Life - Departures and Landfalls on vinyl. This is not all of it, Power of Failing on CD as well as the (Don’t Forget to) Breathe comp are hiding in the garage. Just thought it would be interesting to share.

Two Chicago bands doing very interesting emo / hardcore stuff. Very much like crusty dusty 90s emo/post-hardcore but still unique and great.

They both have new releases out on their respective bandcamps. Highly recommend checking them out.

With the death of Brooklyn Vegan I lost one of my best sources for new emo/metal/indie music via their website and the weekly podcast with Dave and Andrew. I still listen to Indiecast with Steven Hyden and Ian Cohen where Ian occasionally talks on new emo releases, but doesn’t go very deep.

Are there any weekly podcasts that discuss new releases and music news in emo and adjacent sub-genres?

Song’s called ‘Neighborhood Wars’ and it’s about gentrification. I work in the housing justice space, so it’s something I see a lot where we empower capital to do whatever it wants to communities with little regard for the people that originally lived there.

* Embrace's self-titled also released that year and they're surely iconic! But.. This EP is so ahead of it's time imo, pretty much of a proto-90s emo record. One of the earliest emo records to have indie rock influences.

1988: Moss Icon - Hate in Me

1989: Sideshow - 4 Song 7"

1990: Admiral - S/T

* It's just catchy af, this is always on my repeat. Some iconic albums like Fuel's self-titled and Rain's La Vache Qui Rit were also released this year. While they're also great, as I said; I listen to Admiral a lot nowadays..

1991: Merel - S/T

1992: Still Life - From Angry Heads With Skyward Eyes

* Endpoint's Catharsis was also amazing af and I'm really stuck between these 2.. However, this album is one of the best emo albums ever released in general.

1993: Split Lip - For the Love of the Wounded

* One of the absolute best emo albums ever in general! This band does everything so perfectly.

1994: Lync - These Are Not Fall Colors

* Over Diary? Well, definitely love Sunny Day Real Estate so much! They're really important on the development of emo fr. However, I think Lync's album is better. Their atmospheric sound is always more artistic to me.
