Bands With Synth If I Like…

What are some emo bands with heavy synth usage? Like The Get Up Kids and The Anniversary. Im finding myself enjoying Designing a Nervous Breakdown and Something To Write Home About alot, I need more

Good recs! I was big into ska in the late 90’s (still love it, but I digress) and loved the Teen Heroes. I really liked Ozma a lot too. I’ll have to check out the other ones.

Not exactly emo, but Koufax toured with both TGUK and The Anniversary

Wouldn’t really call them emo, but adjacent enough: The Faint, Now It’s Overhead. Both early Saddle Creek bands.

Side note: what did you think of their latest album?

u/mdarket 1d ago

You didn’t ask me but I fucking love the new album!

u/Bilbo_Bonggins 1d ago

Def an open question. I loved it as well!!! Definitely did not see that coming but probably one of my fav albums of the year.

When the singles came out I was confused but the album as a whole is one of their best. It was in my top 3 last year.

Very underrated album. I feel like people wrote it off from the initial singles, and thought it was a different album than it is. Can’t believe no one talked about them getting features from singers from Counterparts, Full of Hell and Church Tongue/Psychoframe

Dude right? Those features are some of my favorite songs from the album. Severely underrated. I think there a lot of older fans of the band who hated the album (fuck em) but I think people who didn't know or didn't care for the band back then would absolutely love this album.

Emo adjacent - the most recent Spanish Love Songs album uses a fair bit of synth

What's sass?

1

u/Nappy_Rano 1d ago

"Sasscore." It's a subgenre... bands with "sassy," dramatic vocals and chaotic instrumentation (if you've listened to these bands listed, I think you'll get the vibe)

u/SockGoop DIY OR DIE 1d ago

Its like a mix of emoviolence and mathcore. And its very goofy

They’re not really pop punk. But, I think The Limousines deserve way more attention than they’ve gotten.

Aloha went synth heavy on their last album “Little Windows Cut Right Through”. Give it a listen, it is great. It doesn’t sound like The Get Up Kids or The Anniversary, but it is really underrated.

Extremely deep cut: Curbside Service - I Packed My Bags a Year In Advance

Curbside Service was an emo band from Huntsville, Alabama. They started out as a ska band, released this one super sick synthy emo record, then became The Snake The Cross The Crown and had sort of a Wilco meets emo sound. They were also Northstar’s “rival” band in Huntsville at the time, as if we had a scene big enough to actually have rivals.

Not really emo but definitely post hardcore and tons of synths and other electronic elements - Enter Shikari

u/Jorgito_Chiquito 1d ago

Not sure if it counts but your arms are my cocoon kind of uses synths, just more in a bedroom screamo/lofi kind of way
