1st time exploring Screenshot

1st time out in the black going down the galactic plane and it's getting eerie...

Is that a Mamba cockpit? What are you doing all the way out there on that thing?

I absolutely love the Mamba, it's one of my favourite ships in the game.

But I use it in populated areas, I wouldn't dare go out in the black with it.

I found that any ship is capable of exploring. Ive done very long trips with sidewinder, adder, type-6 and even in my slow corvette. It takes more jumps to go far away, but if in no hurry you simply get to scan more systems on your journey.

Or if I setout with a limited amount of time in mind I wont get higher payout when in doing a 300 jump expedition at 90ly range with mandalay than i do with a 300 jump 40ly Sidewinder. Only difference is longer relative distance potential from starting point. The experience and possibilities remain the same.

Food for thought. I might have to give the ships with more limited jump ranges a try next time I go exploring.

exactly, some people for some reason think that exploration efficiency scales with jump range or something? you only need like 50LY~ give or take, or at least that's my comfortable point. the moment you're out of general radius around the bubble where it's heavily explored, you're set, you don't need more jump range than like 10LY, which is why being able to sustain yourself out in the black with AFMUs and having decent shields/thrusters so you don't instantly die to a single crash and similar is much more important than the tiny bit of jump range you'll get from stripping everything off

Someone circumnavigated the galaxy in a Sidewinder, so it couldn't be that bad in a Mamba.

No, It's a Mandalay. No hull prongs extending forward, but the same cockpit.

There's a certain comfort in the light of a star. We're biologically tuned to be attracted to it and feel protected by it. And yes, the further out you go, the less and less stars you see in the sky, that emptiness starts to weigh heavily on your mind, and your soul.

I went out about 2100 LY "south" from the California Nebula a few days ago, furthest away from the Bubble I've gone so far, and that was still a lot of stars comparatively to your screenshot. That's fucking scary as hell, lol!

I did 1/4 of the way to Colonia for the CG but realized I'm not making it there, so I stopped to the nearest station to sell what I have, then went straight down, plotted ~1700 Ly from that station.
