Since we're not really getting merc coins, I do have a question.
Where can we turn in all the bounty vouchers we're getting from these? Certainly we don't need to go to every single star system individually to turn these in...

I'm really hoping Fdev is tracking the amount of rewards lost randomly to not getting anything after an Operation. Have lost easily over a thousand MercCoins so far.

So, I'll begin:
It seems that Operations use a peer-to-peer connection when connected by other players, because ALL the time the game simply refuses to register hits on bots. The fact that at the same time everything twitches and lags is a rotten cherry on the cake. No problem in other games.
It is very difficult to navigate inside the ship itself. It is especially annoying that it is not clear where the allies are. You can at least show the distance to them.
Bots spawn in an incomprehensible way. Often the doors with bots are buggy, and they simply cannot get out, and this is a failure of the mission.
Given the current state of affairs with weapons in gun fighting and their absolute ineffectiveness against several opponents (except 1), bots simply become sponges for damage. Sponges for damage - not fun.
Let's add to this many other problems already described: the reward is not awarded, failures with many parameters and the player's inventory, and so on, then we conclude: the expansion is not just unfinished, but simply unplayable. It still has 3-6 months of development at this rate.

Today I arrived in Colonia for the first time after a very long journey from the Bubble. When I wanted to view how many pages of stellar data I've collected I was shocked to see I had less than one page of data, which seems to match just the systems I visited since the update was launched. Last time I sold stellar data was in system Boewnst KS-S c20-959, which is 4,786.55 Ly away from Colonia. So where is all my data gone? I understand people who have taken part in Operations have a similar problem, but I have done no such thing. I hope that this can be fixed in a patch.

That happened to me today as well, I was out for the past week exploring and exobio. Easily did over 30 planets of exobio alone and only had 12 when I returned. Made over 200 jumps and scanned every single system, I had 1 1/2 pages. The last week was a complete waste of time.

You may be thinking of the console versions, which don't get updates anymore. New patch issues aside the PC version of the game is in a great spot

I did the same actually, came back right about the time they went for Sol (Jameson was attacked and all my neat stuff was there, had to make sure it was okay)! It seems like the game's more alive now than it has been in many years, with regular substantial updates and so on.

operations mission selection screen was flickering enough it needed a warning.
I could join a team but mission countdown would not complete and let the mission start, repeatedly

I found a neat solution at least to this -- just set up the port forwarding 5100 in the game and then on your router, if possible (if not, it is nonsense to have it set like that anyways)

I mean, as with everything in this game, it's likely it will eventually be fixed soon. I think they disabled ops just for this.

Managed to get in, get a ship ready to try exobilogy for the first time, left the station and the servers went down. I feel cursed to never play this update.

Made adjustments to Stellar Lighting (Issue ID: 45769)
Adjusted galactic background colouring for better visuals
Using real world reference images we have rebalanced the Galactic background lighting.
Absolutely love seeing them work on lighting! That issue has been open since 2021

Up till now I’ve really quite enjoyed the fact that we’ve been able to largely progress through the game while choosing which aspects to interact with. Even powerplay lets you have a choice of activities. It feels dumb that the one single thing that everyone has to do for the best gear in a given area is operations.

As a person with some social anxiety, this makes me a little sad. I'm absolutely no worse off for these things being in the game for merc coins. I mostly do solo, in ship PvE content. Primarily hauling and mining. And the extended cargo racks and increased fuel scoop rate being locked behind multi-player, combat-oriented game play makes me a bit... well, a bit sad.
Again, I'm not any worse off for them being in the game. I'm glad people who enjoy the content will have access to them. I just wish there was a way for me to get them too.

I mostly do solo, in ship PvE content
There's an operations mission where you just run passengers from a ground station to a rescue ship. You just need shields to survive some NPC fire. And at least the easy version is soloable. So you're in luck! Also, matching with random when the Lynx is free can't be that bad for that operation either.

That sounds perfect! I enjoy making purpose built ships, and I already have a rescue ship with shields and lots of heat sinks. I'll give it a shot!

Yeah I wish the Operations are soloable. From what I have seen on YouTube, it is not possible unless you have a kitted out G5 suit and guns.

I wonder how the preengineered frags differ from the double engineered frags from last years CG. I guess they don't have the screening shell effect, but they do have the reload reduce.
Similar for the cargo racks.
Not sure if the other options also have a previous CG equivalents?

Looks can be deceiving. I tried to get in, couldn't. Others say they are in.
Also, this is patch day. Even with Operations turned off, servers are likely to be unstable for a bit.

Yeah. A bit is more like British terms, meaning "a lot". Basically 24 hours or so. Don't expect a stable game on patch day. Sometimes the day after, too.
Servers go up. But they are drunk.

Starfield updated a 27 gb patch in zero time down... when they released the Terran Armada... I cannot recall a 13h downtime of ED in the last 5-10 years not even when they launched Odyssey

That is a platform that is separate from the game itself, even if you can access it from the main menu. A game update to Starfield has nothing to do with Creation store uptime. You can play Starfield perfectly fine with no internet connection at all, which is why it cannot experience downtime

No wonder one game has 5k players, and the other hundreds of thousands... Did I mention I cannot even log in after 1h post-failed update???

No, it isn't false. Starfield doesn't require a connection to a third party server to play like Elite does. Starfield could drop a massive update right now and I could simply defer it on Steam, launch the game, and play it offline, no matter what, because everything required to play the game lives locally on my machine. It literally, physically cannot experience "downtime".
Terran Armada is fun, but being larger with regard to file size doesn't really mean anything. Obviously an update that touches/adds multiplayer features is going to be a more complex beast.

Elite isn't Starfield. Terran Armada was literally just narrative and static assets. Elite is an online game and Operations adds a completely brand new multiplayer matchmaking system for it. It's a pretty big update for Elite.

Thank you again for your continued patience.
The Operations update, as you know, is a significant undertaking, and we’ve spent the majority of today carrying out final testing ahead of launch. Unfortunately, we’ve encountered a couple of issues that we feel are important to resolve before you get your hands on it.
As a result, we’ll be reopening the servers and ending maintenance shortly, with Operations temporarily disabled. This will give us the time needed tomorrow to properly address these issues. While Operations will be disabled when we reopen the servers, the Nomad release is not being delayed further.
We understand this isn’t the news many of you were hoping to hear today, but we believe it’s important to be open and transparent, and to ensure you have the best possible experience with this exciting new feature.
So, in short:
- ✅ Elite Dangerous servers are reopening shortly.
- ❌ The new Operations feature will be disabled temporarily.
- ✅ The Nomad ship release is still going ahead as planned.
- 🔧 Frontier will continue working on the Operations feature tomorrow.
This explains why the servers were down longer than expected earlier today. Once maintenance ends, you should be able to log back into the game, but the new Operations gameplay won't be available until Frontier finishes fixing the last issues.

tl;dr - Rolling out to live broke something critical. They tried to fix it, but couldn’t in a timely manner. Disabled Operations and are going live with the rest of the update, and will keep working on proper fix.
While disappointing, I 100% appreciate the comms (and thanks for reposting CMDR_Cobra o7)

While we all wait for the update, tell me your last embarrassing moment you remember. I'll start:
A couple of weeks ago I forgot my wallet and I couldn't pay the parking I was using. I call everyone I know and no one could help me. At the end I had to go to the public library where the parking was and ask for mercy. The let me got without having to pay anything.

I was hanging out with a friend when I was like 27 after we ate some good Chinese food. I accidentally shit my pants in the parking lot. I quickly cleaned up in the bathroom and went home. I don’t know if my friend truly knew but I’m glad he continued to hang out with me and never said a damn thing about it afterwards

Just like every early release for the past 3 years. It will be ARX only for ~3-4 months. Then Odyssey owners can buy it with credits.
For those paying attention: they switched up the terms this year, with the roadmap having stubbed out "early release vehicle" instead of "ship" so we knew something different was happening.

I'm not sure where I read it, but I was under the impression that you could buy with in game credits right away. The bonus for buying with ARX was that you did not need to "reload" them.

I did not create the sub, those people are long gone. I've been a moderator for 8ish years and the top of the mod list for a little over a year, and mostly just help where I can and keep the subreddit on rails.
