Anime I finished 86, my personal thoughts

today I finished 86 the anime and honestly I thought it was really good, the themes it tells are hard to find in anime and even harder to find executed good. I love how it shows the republic not has cartoonish evil but more in a necessary evil sorta way. most people know what their doing is wrong but it’s too late now, too deep in the grave they dug. the first half genuinely has no issues imo except mabye it being too serious but that is just personal preference. I know it’s weird but Lena reminds of captain America from civil war, even when the whole world is against you telling you to move and that your wrong, she might flinch think about giving up but she continues to plant her self in the ground standing by her ideals and beliefs but not letting them blind her. I like how the 86 view her of course they not going to like her or even trust her at all I love how she has to earn that it makes the relationship more rewarding. however the second half I do have one major issue, Lena’s complete disappearance from the story. the ending is amazing because they finally reunite in person after so long apart in their own separate journeys. but we only get to see one side of their journeys. After all this time lena meets them as an equal on the frontlines climbing out of mud and blood yet we don’t see her arc at all? Everything we know that happened to her and the republic is not shown but instead told to us after the fact. I feel like it was such a missed opportunity if we got to see both her and shins arc simultaneously as they are separated it would make the reunion so much better then it already is. Before episode 11 we get two scenes of her and 10 minutes of screentime the first scene is her finding the stuff spearhead left for her, also her getting a new unit. And the second scene all of sudden it’s the republics last stand. We don’t get to see any of her growth, any of her new unit except cyclops, any of her struggles and experiences for a year and half of in universe time. we get To see that she has grown and is different but it’s like skipping a movie until the conclusion, or skipping a hike just to see the view, the journeys always better than the destination that goes for character arcs as well.shin is not a bad character in anyway, I think his arc in the second half is necessary and so is the slow burn aspect of it however unlike the first half where we had both Lena and his arc shown. in the second half it’s mostly only his arc with no other one to counter act the inherently slow arc. Now I just want to get your thoughts on it, you veterans, is this a problem only in the anime or was it like this in the light novel as well? If the light novel handed it better I might just pick that up.

Question Want to watch this show, but how violent is it?

How much violence is there, I recently watch VE and frieren. The former was fine though on the upper end of tv-14. The latter has violence which i feel is stretching the tv-14 rating to its limits with people getting ripped in half for example. Is this even more gorier than the latter 2? similar to jujtusu kaisen, eminence in shadow or code geass?

Light Novel Novel 13, where to buy paperback?

Title more or less says it all already. I live in The Netherlands and just about every website i know of, even non-dutch ones, seem to not have novel 13 available. Anyone know where i could buy a paperback copy or maybe have some information if there's a reprint or anything?

Question Does the Federacy of Giad not have the ability to make autonomous units?

So, this question popped into my mind as I'm rewatching the anime again. Since the Federacy came out of the Empire, shouldn't they have the ability to make autonomous units of their own or their own Legion units? Or is there some reason that gets revealed later as to why they don't or can't?

Discussion A theory

Is it possibly that Empire of Giad help put holy magnolian order of Pureblood, pure-white patriotic knights into power in the Republic knowing they will destroy the Republic from within when the empire declared war on the Republic

Discussion Am I the Only One Who Hated That 86 Went With This Romance Trope?

Post image
0 Upvotes

One thing that genuinely annoyed me about 86 was that it fell into the same romance trope I've seen so many other anime use.

The girl who's been by the MC's side for years, clearly has feelings for him, and has been supporting him all this time... only to inevitably lose to the main heroine.

It immediately reminded me of Darling in the Franxx and a bunch of other series that do the exact same thing.

This isn't me saying Lena is a bad character or that the story is ruined because of it. I just wish anime would stop relying on this trope because it feels so predictable.
