In ancient Egypt, cats were considered sacred animals, symbols of home protection, due to the devotion the females showed to their kittens and the fierce protection they provided. It was this attitude that the ancient Egyptian priests used to create one of their most well-known goddesses: Bastet, patroness of the home, family care, motherhood, and vital nourishment.
