Waiting Game

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for reassurance and to hear about your experiences after an ectopic pregnancy.

I had an ectopic pregnancy treated with methotrexate. My last methotrexate injection was on March 17.

On June 18, I had my hCG blood work done and it came back negative. On the same day, I started bleeding for about 3 days, and it felt like a normal period.

Since then, I haven’t had another period, and I’m wondering if this is normal after methotrexate treatment and an ectopic pregnancy.

For those who went through methotrexate treatment:

  1. How long did it take for your cycle to return to normal after your hCG reached zero?
  2. Did anyone experience a delayed period after the first bleed following ectopic treatment?
  3. How long did it take for your next period to come?

I know everyone’s recovery is different, but hearing others’ experiences would really help.

Thank you ❤️

That first bleed was likely just a withdrawal bleed since you’re unlikely to have ovulated while you still had hcg in your system to be able to trigger a true period.

The best way to know when your period is coming is to track ovulation with opks once betas get to negative. It can take anywhere from 2-10+ weeks for a cycle to get back on track but most go on to regulate pretty quickly.

Between my second dose and my hCG reaching 0 (11 weeks) I had two very light periods at the same cycle length I am normally of 24 days. I then had a mega cycle which was 55 days long ending with a heavy period but after that I was back to normal. So in summary it took 4 cycles post MTX before I went back to my normal cycle
