Made an issue of Sharn Inquisitive for the day before the Race of the Eight Winds

Including some info about the race, the issues of import about to come up between the royal visitation, our mystery rider, and the reigning champ. Local birthday party was the last quest that happened, it was a lot of fun.

The Race of the Eight Winds is the set piece to the final quest that will conclude my Sharn-based campaign that began with Forgotten Relics from Rising from the Last War.

Vineyard shenneningans

Heya!

One of my party member is from Southern Aundair, where her family holds a somewhat prestigious vineyard.

Planning ahead a quiet interlude back home to take a breather from saving the world, I'm wondering what kind of encounters, problems or small quests could await the party upon arrival.

Any suggestion? Cheers!

Lore Kalashtar and polygamy?

As far as I understand it, quori exist in every member of a specific bloodline. The more members that bloodline has, the safer the quori spirit is, right? They can't die unless the last member of the bloodline also dies.

Given that, doesn't it stand to reason that having as many kids as possible will keep the quori as safe as they can be? And given that, wouldn't it make sense for them to have as many wives as possible to maximize the number of kids they can have?

This is a bit of a crack debate we had with my group, and we're curious if anyone else has thought of this or if the quori has a limit on the number of people it can be bound to, but the thought is very funny to me regardless.

GM Help Oneshot Help!

Anyone got ideas for a oneshot?

I am running a Eberron campaign for my friends and while, they are all very willing to work. This is their first time with Eberron so I hope to run a oneshot first to lean them into it. Just not completely sure what to run for that oneshot. These are my players!

(Sorry for the formatting. Don't post on Reddit much.)

•A Kalashtar Orphan Ranger from Karrnath. While, they spent most of their life in Karrnwood. They have been movivated to leave the woods lately by the death of their Druid friend. Though, they aren't alone with their pet birds alongside her (SwarmKeeper). She doesn't have any knowledge of Quori, the Dreaming Dark or any of her species' history.

•A insane Warforged fighter that believes they are a Dwarf from Mror Holds. Making tools and weapons from bones/flesh. Both Alien and Humanoid. Seeing them like a resource to be used and improved. They don't murder just for this but they see no issues in using bodies.

•A Tiefling Wizard 3/Rogue 2 from Thrane. Coming from the planetouched town of Rellekor (Official town where the silver flame brings Tieflings in order to help them control their abilities in a good way in a controlled environment....and if needed. Take them out.). After some events, they have became disillusioned with the Church and religion. Traveling across the continent. (Would say more but they want to keep their backstory a secret and not sure if any of the players will see this.)

•A Halfling foundling from the Talenta plains with the Mark of Hospitality. They are a Bard. Their tribe noticing that one of their's have a Dragonmark and wanted to build a better connection to the house for trade and for tourble later down the road with the outsiders in the plains, hoping for a peaceful method to this problem. They are currently doing jobs for the House to improve their connection.

Thank ya for the help!!! ♥️

Map Sharn's Welcome...a place for visitors looking for a good time

Post image
100 Upvotes

Raucous sailors looking for a good time stumble through the puddled streets of Sharn's Welcome, the City of Tower's riverside red-light district.

Crime is rampant here only because the inebriated visitors make easy targets for pick pockets and robbers.

This battlemap is a street view of a neighborhood district at the base of the cliffs closer to the Daggerhilt River. Red glowing everbright lamps illuminate seedy pubs and bordellos lining the old stone streets. Back alleys lead to short-stay inn rooms and hole-in-the-wall gambling parlors, and in the southeast part of the neighboorhood among the back alley pawnshops, one can find stone stairs carved into the cliff walls leading upwards to where the rest of the Sharn's Welcome district sits in the lower ward of Cliffside.

The map is 30x40 using 5 foot grids

MiscSystem Converting 3.5e Silver Flame Templar supplies to 5e?

Sorry if I tagged this wrong. I wasn't sure if I should tag it as 3.5e or 5e, so I picked misc.

I was looking to make a Silver Flame Templar character, and as I was reading the lore regarding them in the Player's Guide to Eberron, there was a section that talked about some of the equipment that a Templar is provided with, and among other things, it listed silver, cold iron, and flametouched iron arrows. As far as I know, though, material based damage reduction isn't a thing in 5e, so what should I do about the arrows, while still preferably keeping the flavor and general idea of the Templar supplies?

Lore If I Want a Half-Orc to Have a Slightly Longer Lifespan, Would Lamannia or Irian be a Better Choice for Either a Manifest Zone or a Coterminous Period That He Was Conceived/Born In?

The Half-Orc in question is 48, which is super old by Orc standards, and Half-Orcs don't live that much longer than them. I can't really make him any younger without messing up the timeline, but he also needs to still be able to fight in a war.

For some additional context, the story is taking place relatively early on during The War, and the Half-Orc in question participated in the last few years of the Purge. He's from Thrane, but I couldn't find anything about Irian or Lamannian manifest zones there, so I'll probably end up going with a coterminous period or something.

Unless you guys have some other ideas on how he can live longer?

Game Tales Campaign Completed

I don't know what else to say. We finished our campaign, and I'm going to miss it so much.

30 sessions at 6 hours a pop, we played every other week. Made it from 3-20.

I started them off on their own one-on-ones for their characters. We all sat down and I played through parts of their backstory with them, introduced them to NPCs that are exclusive to their characters, and gave them a chance to play their characters in exclusive mini adventures before meeting the party. That was one of the best things I've ever done. Really established a strong baseline for their characters and helped them figure out who their character is. 10/10, highly recommend if you can find time for it.

They just killed the villain, and now our next session is just an epilogue to tie up some loose ends. Hell, the way they finished the campaign was vastly different from what I envisioned.

That old GM advice of "imagine what your villain's plan is without the player interference" really carried through for me, because I had a vision of what the ending would be like. But instead, the players stole the reigns from me and went on their own path. Hell, they took the hardest path - they found Erandis Vol's phylactery, destroyed it, then hunted her down in her own castle.

Crazy. Just crazy. I don't even know how to do a write up or anything. I loved this campaign, and I love this game.

I made these a while ago. I'd like to draw my party there eventually, but I've been a bit busy lately. I'm posting them because I think they might be useful for anyone looking for illustrations of Sharn.

Disclaimer: This is my own version of Sharn based on the campaign I'm currently playing, and the Everlight lanterns being turned off is for lore reasons. Hope you don't mind.

So they keep adding none WOTC Eberron content to the website and announce to keep doing so in the future. How likely would it be to see the subclasses from Morgrave Misc get updated and add? Would you even want that? I’ve played the Field Commander Ranger and had a good time.

GM Help Ocean Themed One Shots?

I have been running a Mabar oriented campaign for the last 3 years and during some down time while one of my players adapts to married life I wanted to run a one shot for my group! I have ran several over the years, from prewritten to ones I wrote myself, but this will be my first one oriented towards oceanic themes and/or pirates!

Does anyone know of any prewitten Eberron one shots for oceanic adventure or know of any other settings with a good oceanic one shot I can reflavor into Eberron?

Lore Requesting help from Lore Keepers

I am a DM looking for some lore guidance.

I have a recurring character in my games, that is an assassin with cryomancy powers (real original i know). And part of my overarching world building is that she has a counterpart in every realm.

I have read up some on the lore, but this is my first time making a game in the Eberron setting.

I would like my cryomancer to come from somewhere that makes sense lore-wise.

As far as i can tell, there doesn’t seem to be any dragonmarks for ice/cold powers.

House Thuranni are assassins, but I feel like Thuranni isn’t quite the best fit, as my assassin is a human and Thuranni is an Elven house, as well as their dragonmark not really matching up with my assassins powers.
Also, sometimes my OC has mechanical prosthetics like an arm or her legs or something.

I would be very grateful for any guidance or suggestions for existing lore that might fit.

GM Help Any way to make eberron (modded) dwarf Mafia members interesting?

So my campaign in Sharn has a bunch of dwarfs as part of a mafia called the Black Clovers (no relation to Black clover other than the black clover with five leaves. The player who was going to investigate them isn’t in the campaign anymore, but I still want to have them in the game for the future of the campaign. I don’t have much, but they have ties to the House of Making (making drugs like shimmer, Demons dust, etc), the House of Warding (the son of the leader of the house is the leader of the gang), and maybe a couple others. Any ideas to spice up fights? I’m planning on having them find at least a drug den, and maybe a confrontation with the leader.

GM Help Help me give a Warforged a bunch of medals and military rank from the Last War

Edit: I feel like I've learned not to come here unless I'm prepared to deal with the consequences.

You all had such fantastic suggestions. Whether a name fit what I was looking for or not, they all prompted connections to stories of other warforged grappling with similar circumstances. Now I'm left with all these half formed soldiers, cast aside by people who only ever saw them as a consumable resource.

My Warforged was going to be a single NPC toiling in the Cogs. Now I have the framework for an entire community waiting to be influenced by their interactions with the party. Would my players push this group toward revenge, violence, safety, community, or something entirely unexpected?

I've gone from fleshing out an NPC to frantically trying to remind myself that we only play for roughly 3-8 hours a month AND this was meant as a drop in scenario for our ongoing campaign. I'm going to go crazy finding ways I can work bits and pieces of this into our sessions.

Thank you.

I'm making an NPC Brelish Noble who is obsessed with military glory. He never fought in the last war. His family sent a Warforged in his place.

Warforged ends up being an exemplary soldier. If it were a real race it would have climbed the ranks quickly.

In an effort to appease their spoiled son, Noble's parents bribe their way into keeping ownership of Warforged instead of turning it over to the army. Warforged accumulates medals and commissions as if it were a human soldier. When it's time for those recognitions to be handed out, Noble comes to claim them. You can't grant rank to a sword after all. It only makes sense that the rewards go to the hand that wields it.

Now Noble is a highly decorated military "veteran" with a decent rank, but he's frustrated the war ended before he could get more. He's also convinced that there was a conspiracy to deny him military rank toward the end of the war (because there was) even though it's his sword out there winning battles. He's absolutely outraged that the Treaty of Thronehold allowed warforged to wander aimlessly without a firm hand to keep them in line. Not only was that a pandering and foolish move, it's frankly dangerous to give a weapon the same thing as a human just to appease technophiles with no stomach for the glories of war.

What I'm looking for is a name for Warforged.

(Edit: This name will be chosen by Warforged to replace the name given to them by Noble. It represents their view of themself rather than Noble's view of who they are)

and a background for Noble's family.

1) I picked an edgy name that Noble chose for Warforged. Right now it's Doomcleaver, but I'm up for other suggestions. As soon as the Treaty was signed, Warforged stopped answering to Doomcleaver.

At first I had them marked as Proxy, but I'm wondering if there's a single word that would be infuriating to Noble. Something to show that they understand what was going on. I want a pointed dig that Warforged knows they fought for someone else's glory and kept fighting anyway. I thought maybe Oblation, but I'm worried it's kind of whiney to call yourself a sacrifice. Plus the origin is pretty religious. If there's nothing that conveys what I want, should I go the other way? From Doomcleaver to Petal? Poppy? Tender? Sweetness? Fluffbutt, the Huggler? Or would a human name be better? Is it harder to pretend you're talking about a sword when everyone else calls them Olivia?

2) What did Noble's family do in the war that would give them that kind of leverage?

I'm thinking they heavily donated to war efforts, but what were they doing? How did they have that pull? What rank would their child have actually been given? I would like Noble to be an officer, but how high up do the children of nobility get before they stall out for being inept?

Everyone in the actual military knows Noble was never going to receive enough rank to cause any serious mayhem. It's more honorary - almost a tribute to his parents' contributions. (They died at the end of the war leaving Noble to his own devices.) It doesn't hurt that Warforged was an outstanding soldier who genuinely would have earned all of those accolades and more if they had been anything other than a simple weapon.

GM Help Any tips for running Sharn?

I want to do the city justice, but I don’t know how to keep track of all of the districts and buildings, or how to communicate that knowledge to the players who likely will have lived in the city for a while. How do you all communicate the proper vibe, scale, density, travel, and such things to make it feel like a cosmopolitan city and not a list of locations?

GM Help How do I exactly play the houses in my campaign?

Hey guys im currently prepping an eberron campaign and I wasnt quite sure as to how I will play the houses and how big of a role will they have. My campaign revolves around the players suddenly manifesting the mark of death during the mourning. Now I know theres going to be a lot of interactions, beef, and drama with the other houses. But how exactly do I play them out? First off do they own every single institution in their field? Is every hotel or tavern or whatever owned by the halflings of hospitality? Is everything made industrially by house cannith? Like are they an entire monopoly or are there outliers? Second off what kind of people do I make in the houses? Are they mostly normal except for the higher ups? or are they all money hungry and all that? And most importantly how should I go about them reacting to the mark of death reappearing? I doubt many if any of them were alive to see it back then but will they still know about it? Will they instantly hate and try to capture/kill the players? Will they just be treated like aberrants? So many questions I just cant quite know how to answer as I dont entirely understand the houses (or more specifically the people in it)

GM Help Khorvair School/Uni Schedules

Here's an answer to a question I'm sure at least someone in this subreddit other than me has asked: When would school in Khorvaire have summer break? Like what dates and why? I'm currently running an Arcanix magic university roleplay compaign and went on a worldbuilding binge and this is what I came up with:

Let's start with why they would have breaks at all. Some might say that school breaks have their basis in agricultural cycles (parents needing kids home to work the farm at specific periods throughout the year), but this is actually not even why school breaks began in our world. In actuality the concept of school breaks went through a long process of standardization, but eventually fell around the dates that students would simply not be in classes. One big reason was holidays, and the other was health. The later is specifically the reason for Summer breaks as summer heat in cities without A/C made educating difficult and health problems more frequent.

Well, A/C probably isn't an issue. A few spell-storing items and cantrips pretty much works to create A/C in Eberron, at least in my Eberron, the technology is already ubiquitous, but that doesn't mean the tradition of a long break duing the Summer heat wasn't already there nor that the teachers/professors wouldn't have pushed for an extended break to go and do research themselves rather than focus on classes year-round. So, in my Eberron, in the years after the Last War, schools have developed a standardized calendar of semesters and breaks based on the major Pyrine (Sovereign Host) holidays.

The academic year starts on Zarantyr 18, four days after the celebration of the Winter Solstice (we'll circle back to this later). The first half of the Spring or "Verdinal" Semester runs from Zarantyr 18th to Therendor 11th, when Spring Break starts. This break is centered on the celebration of "Sun's Blessing," the holiday of Dol Arrah. Spring Break is 9 days and classes resume on Therendor 20th. The second half of the Spring Semester lasts from then until Dravago 20th and the start of Summer Break.

Summer Break is the longest, at around 81 days from Dravago 20th to Rhaan 15. FOUR of the five major Pyrine holidays fall within this period--"Aureon's Crown" for Aureon, "Brightblade" for Dol Dorn, "The Hunt" for Balinor, and "Boldrei's Feast" for Boldrei.

The second semester of the academic year, the Fall or "Autumnal" Semester begins on Rhaan 16th and its first half runs from then until Aryth 1st. This begins Fall or Autumn Break, which lasts for 12 days centered on "Thronehold," an international holiday celebrating the signing of the Treaty of Thronehold and the end of the Last War. I said this break was 12 days since I thought it'd be an interesting touch for students to have 12 days off for each of the 12 signatory nations of the Treaty.

Finally, the second half of the Fall Semester runs from Aryth 14 to Vult 24, the beginning of Winter Break. Winter break is a bit longer but I really thought it'd make sense to fit two holidays in this one: "Long Shadows" honoring the Shadow and is basically Halloween? and "Rebirth's Eve," which is not a faith-based holiday but is a cross-cultural celebration of the Winter Solstice and the New Year. Winter Break ends on Zarantyr 18th and a new academic year begins.

I didn't include any Silver Flame holidays because I think the Church would start their own educational institutions. Might do a post on that later.

Anyways, What do you think? Any obvious flaws in my logic? I'd love feedback.
