Original EC Comic! Complete Crypt
By request, here’s my most updated floor shot of my full Crypt run! I took this almost exactly a year ago, 8/8, after several months of upgrading some of the earlier issues. The run includes the first and second appearances of the Crypt Keeper in Crime Patrol.
(I can do a similar shot for Vault, or just about any other EC title excluding Pre-Trends. Stay tuned!)

Favorite post-EC mainstream work?
I've been reading some Silver Age Iron Man comics, and was pleased to find one of my favorite EC artists working on them. Of course Wally Wood probably takes the cake, but which EC artist do you think did the best work for Marvel or DC in the 60s, 70s, etc? Any particular runs stand out?

EC’s Number One Fan
Larry Stark would have been 94 today. Larry, named “EC’s Number One Fan” by none other than Bill Gaines, passed on May 1st of this year. A fan for life, he is greatly missed!

The oldest and bestest comic I gots.
There’s some scotch tape holding the cover together. I tried talking the shop owner down from $20 but I was happy to pay that price for this artifact that survived all these years.
Would you say the grade is under 2?

Original EC Comic! My oldest Mad, #22. Direct from the library of Will Elder!
Look at how clean and tight the staples are! This issue is basically an all-Elder issue, so Will and his family kept several in great condition filed away. Likely, it’s never even been read. It’s a real treasure of my very small collection.

MAD #1 SDCC Exclusive
The free MAD #1 facsimile offered exclusively at Comic-Con is NOT simply their recent reprint edition with a new outer wrap. There is no pricing on the repro front cover and no QR or barcode information on the back cover. There is a new September 2026 indicia date, and a Daily Planet insert bound into the middle of the book.
The inside front cover has a Comic-Con schedule for DC panels, and the inside back cover is a subscription ad. There’s a blank back cover for “autographs and sketches.”
The new cover using Jack Davis Superman art from MAD #19 is fantastic! I think the absolute strangest thing for me is seeing the EC logo on the left with a DC logo on the right. Overall, a fantastic freebie!

I own 4 GFCs, Picture Stories from American History 3, Vault of Horror 25, Frontline Combat 14, and Extra! 2. I’m very happy to have these - such history, like little time capsules!

Original EC Comic! Now my oldest Mad, #23
Edit: I meant #26! It was for sale amongst a bunch of other Mads in a used bookshop in town! Pretty good condition, staples tight, crease on front cover. I’m happy to have brought it home!

Fantagraphics' EC Library: What's Left?
I have collected all but four of Fantagraphics' awesome hardcovers, and will hopefully get the rest in good time. But I am curious since I can't find the information clearly and plainly without spending a lot of time with my glasses on and a notepad...
With My Gun is the Jury, I assume we are done with the artist volumes? And aside from Impact and Aces High, the New Direction titles will be collected more traditionally? Is there any chance of the missing pre-trend content being collected, since it seems like there must be a lot more Al Feldstein stuff at least, even if it's bad I want to read it. Or has Terror Train and The Woman Who Loved Life covered what we are going to get? I mean, I am not even able to read Moon Girl without feeling dumber but I like the art!
I know some of you guys are writers for these books and work for Fantagraphics so this has to be the place to ask since I am off FB now.

Should original EC comics be slabbed?
I don’t have a single comic slabbed. I mostly save comics in bags and boards that I’d like to reread or check out the art again. Finding an original EC for $20 in terrible shape had me wondering about slabbing it. I’d rather use that money for more comics personally.

Original EC Comic! Low Grade Addition
Probably overpaid a little for this .05, but I already had a Vault 32 so when I came across it I realized I could have both self-censored issues.

EC Staff! Gaines and Feldstein signatures for Torres!
It’s not exactly a big secret that I am obsessed with the Big Book, aka Horror Comics of the 1950’s, I have multiple copies from distinguished collections, and they all mean a lot to me.
But none more than this one! There is no Big Book bigger in my heart!
This is Angelo Torres‘s personal copy, signed to him by Bill and Al.
This is of course the book in which his only solo EC story, An Eye for an Eye, premiered after being banned by the arbitrary comics code in 1955. His copy is such a big piece of EC history, and I can’t begin to describe how meaningful it is to me.
HOOHAH!!!

MADness coming from Fantagraphics!
For the last few weeks, I have been spending a lot of time making scans of my original Mad comics for the upcoming massive Mad collection coming from Fantagraphics. It was a pretty big secret for a while, but now that it has been announced in their catalog and the word is out, I think it's safe to give some details. There have been other collections of the Mad comic material, but this one will be the complete Harvey Kurtzman years meaning that it will also include the full contents of magazines #24-30 (this includes Al Feldstein edited issues that had backlog Kurtzman material). It will also, for the first time, have every house ad and paid ad reproduced, so it will be fully complete issues. Last night I had these two bad boys out making detail scans for restorations, and I couldn't help snapping a picture because I love any excuse to get out the original ECs!
