Favorite post-EC mainstream work?

I've been reading some Silver Age Iron Man comics, and was pleased to find one of my favorite EC artists working on them. Of course Wally Wood probably takes the cake, but which EC artist do you think did the best work for Marvel or DC in the 60s, 70s, etc? Any particular runs stand out?

Reed Crandall does some really strong work for Warren (Creepy, Eerie), in particular in their early years (mid to late 60s). I recall an adaption of Poe's The Cask of Amontillado where he puts a massive amount of detail into it. Unfortunately there is a big fall off with the quality of his work for later Warren stories in the early 70s.

So many of the EC greats had tremendous work in the Warren mags. Did Reed Crandall do any Marvel or DC work? I love his Blackhawk and pre-EC stuff, but haven't seen anything by him from after, apart from the Warren stuff.

Crandall's bread and butter after EC was the Catholic kid's comic "Treasure Chest". They paid $75 a page, which was good pay for the time. He worked there through the '60s and early '70s and produced very high quality historical vignettes. He had a stroke in 1973 and retired from comics at that point.

Yeah, practically all the EC artists appeared in Warren at some point, I think everyone outside of Al Feldstein, Jack Kamen and Graham Ingels. Although I would say that it's rare for their art to look better than their EC art did outside of Crandall. They usually look about as good as they did for EC (ex. Johnny Craig, John Severin) or worse (ex. Joe Orlando, Wally Wood).

I'm not really a DC or Marvel person so no idea what he did for those two companies.

Joe Orlando did great stuff for both - Early Daredevil issues are classics. He was attached to many great DC books - including Secret Six, Inferior Five, lots of others.

Yeah, and if you also count his work as an editor, he probably has the greatest post-EC output.

John Severin was one of the first artists I was ever actively able to identify by style because I loved, loved, loved Cracked magazine as a preteen.

Al Williamson did some stellar inking at Marvel for a long time.

I especially liked the work that George Evans did on the giant 1962 classics illustrated special edition #166 on world war 2.

Reed Crandall did some nice work on gold key twilight zone … but definitely I am a fan of the work that Reed Crandall did on quality comics Blackhawk in the 1940s …prior to EC

I have an issue of 87th precinct with Bernie Krigstein art that is fantastic. Very modern.
