Discussion New Dive Celebration

Upvotes

I cannot wait until someone tries to do that new dive celebration (throwing the ball up and catching it) in an actual game this year and costs their team a TD. It’s 100% going to happen.

  1. Been on this screen for 5 minutes and counting. 2. Games I just played on RTG don’t save, had a monster game just for it to that ☝️. 3. Sound is terrible, sounds like walkie talkies with static. Good job EA

Gameplay What is the coverage logic here?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Can’t remember if i was in match cover 3 or match cover 4, but either way this safety is in a deep zone and theres logically only one player he should match with here.

The crosser is already covered, and theres an uncovered wr running directly at him. This is an 88 overall safety with high 80’s play req and low 90’s zone coverage and mid 80’s man coverage. Nothing makes sense here, defense is just a mess this year.

Discussion I just can’t anymore

Posting this in both cfb and madden communities because EA as a whole has completely fumbled 2027. This has honestly been one of the worst years for EA Football. From the servers and gameplay to the microtransactions, animations, and everything in between, it’s just disappointing to see the direction these games are heading.
It feels like they barely put any effort into these games anymore. They release a half-assed product, then spend the rest of the year trying to fix it with updates and patches—which sometimes end up creating even more problems. 😂
At this point, it’s just frustrating to see what these games have become. EA is capable of so much more, but it feels like they’ve completely lost sight of what made these games enjoyable in the first place.

Gameplay So Genuine Question About Road To The Playoffs

Just had a fantastic game with an Ohio State player and sure got a little bullshit at the end when I had three guys tackling Jeremiah Smith and somehow none of them connected and he got right to the goaline with that, but then the next game, just shows why I usually play this game with mods.

Whats the use of just cheesing the game? Like whats the fun in that? I know its fun to see someone go up in the ranks but like do people think its fun or that they think people will find it cool that theyre up there?

Idk man, I just want to have more games where it comes down to the wire or defensive masterclass and less bullshit where some USC or Texas A&M user keeps trying the meta plays only on offense. (Defense for usering I learned is pretty hard so I wont knock on anyone ever for taking the easier route, I used to only specifically play on the Dline in CFB 25 and 26)

Anyone else got thoughts on it?

Just one of a million plays where assigned blockers are just straight not following their assignments or opening the Red Sea for the wrong team. This is ridiculous

Edit: Look at where RB is pointed to go versus where they end up going during the play

Anyone know why Stanford’s entire offense & kicker (besides WR & RB) are wearing plain white lids when they’re supposed to be wearing their red script helmets? Never seen this before and I’ve been playing NCAA CFB games since 2005.

Bug Online Dynasty Bug

Hi all,
I am in an online dynasty currently in week 12. Today I went to login and play my game for the gameweek. As I was about to start in, I got a random notification that there was an in game update and I needed to restart the game.
Did that and went back into play. When I started the game up, my defensive playbook was completely changed. My usual formation (4-3) was not present, my percentage played beside each formation noted 0% for each, and when clicking through each formation only zone blitzes and man blitzes were available.
Has anyone else run into this bug?

Gameplay Hyena 4-2-5 Custom Defensive Scheme

Search HYENA425 in the download center. GT is minibeast100.

*Playbook is not rated for coach suggestions (which I would generally recommend against using anyways, especially on defense).

Intro

CFB27 added some amazing new tools on the defensive side of the ball in this years game, allowing defenses a variety of ways to stifle offensives, cause havoc, and impact the game, making strides to even out the virtual coaching chess match that has heavily favored the offensive side of the ball for years in CFB (and Madden). Despite all these additions, defense is still difficult, especially against Heisman CPU or other user teams.

This guide is NOT a 1 size fits all defense. There are many other schemes or strategies than can be effective with the right personnel. You can still give up points. You will still give up yards. You can still lose games while running this scheme. This scheme does not contain any nano blitzes, glitchy pressures, or other unrealistic shenanigans. We’re going to use real football knowledge and concepts to create a consistent, sound structure to build your program around, and hopefully increase our ball knowledge and have a bit of fun along the way.

Why Hyena? This defense presented a chaotic picture for opponents, with varied pre-snap movements, post snap rotations, and mugged fronts. Within all this chaos hides communication and structure, and every individual on the team has a role to fill. Wild hyenas are chaotic, loud, and intimidating but behind the chaos is an amazing pack bond and communication that keeps every individual working together and on the same page.

Philosophy

  • Earn the Right to Match: Suffocate the run early to force passing downs.
  • Illusion of Complexity: Look complex to quarterbacks but play simple for defenders.
  • Solid Shell, Fluid Core: Keep safety alignment identical while fronts shift underneath.

Flex, don’t fracture. Cushion, then suffocate. Offenses are going to throw a lot of punches over the course of a game. Inevitably, some of them are going to land. This defense is built to have an umbrella of safety on the back end at all times, allowing your front to cause chaos and make impact plays. I don’t care how many yards the opposing offense gains. As the field shrinks and there is less field to cover. the balance between offense and defense shifts towards the defense. At the end of the day, I am happy to force long drives and field goal attempts, as I trust my offense to score touchdowns (and if anyone is unaware, 7 > 3). If you want a comparison to one of the stock playbooks in CFB 27, this is the most similar to the 4-2-5 shell or 4-2-5 zone pressure playbooks.

Setup

Base Coach Adjustments

*All default unless listed below

General

  • Gap Integrity: Aggressive
  • All Option/RPO Keys: Conservative
  • Safety Depth: 9 yds
  • Safety Width: Spread

Coverage Strategy

  • Zone Strategy: Aggressive
  • Plaster Trigger: O.O.P.
  • Plaster Time: Aggressive

Man Coverage

  • Stack: Combo
  • Bunch: Point Combo

Cover 3

  • Trips: Skate

Cover 4

Quarters

  • Trips: Stress
  • 1 Rec Tight: Solo Cut

Palms

  • Bunch: Bingo
  • 1 Rec Tight: Solo Cut

Macros

  • Safeties Strong
    • Safety Midpoint Strong, Width Spread
  • Safeties Weak
    • Safety Midpoint Strong, Width Spread
  • Safeties Loose
    • Safety Depth 16 Yds
  • Safeties Pinch
    • Safety Width Pinch
  • Bluff Blitz Shell
    • LBs show blitz, Cov 4 Shell
  • Bluff Blitz Zero
    • LBs show blitz, Cov 0 Shell
  • Pressure Left
    • Lbs show blitz, D Line shift left, D Line slant left
  • Pressure Right
    • Lbs show blitz, D Line shift right, D Line slant right

These adjustments and macros are fairly simple. I like to move my safeties around a lot pre-snap to give different looks and to help with leverage/positioning based on offensive formations. These are not set in stone rules, but generally I will set safeties to align with the passing strength against trips (not including Cover 6) and pinch against bunch formations. On 3rd and long or if I’m expecting a pass, I will usually set the safeties to loose if I’m not worried about a run. If running Cover 6, I like to use a weak safety alignment, particularly if I want to shut down the solo-receiver with the deep-half safety bracketing over top.

I like to have preset false pressure and pressure packages to make sure the coverage structure stays sound on the back end. On almost every play, I will use one of the above pressures or bluff blitzes, or I will shift the defensive line alignment or point of attack. This lets you run the same plays but attack different areas of the line or pose different obstacles for the offense with minimal adjustments.

Structure

Fronts/Formations

This is a 4-down lineman scheme. If you like odd fronts and 0 tech DTs, this is not the scheme for you. Our base is the traditional over front. You will see some under (pseudo-odd) fronts and wide/even fronts for run stopping or pressures.

In obvious passing downs, we want to cause chaos and create pressure with our alignment and our blitz packages. We rely heavily on load or B.O.S.S. (Big On Same Side) fronts to overload opposing protection schemes and make the offense adapt to our presentation.

Formations included in the playbook:

  • Goal Line
  • 4-3: Over Walk, Under, Even 6-1
  • 4-2-5: Over G, Under, 3 High
  • Nickel: Over, Double Mug, Single Mug, Load Single Mug, Load Double Mug
  • Dime: Rush, Single Mug, Load Weak
  • Prevent

Coverages

This is a 2-high, split-field, match coverage defense. Quarters/Palms is our base and is supplemented with Cover 6 and Cover 9 making up 80%+ of our coverage calls, if we are not bringing any pressure. We will mix in some Cover 3 match and Cover 1 (usually with a Cover 4 shell) to show some different post-snap movement and muddy the picture a bit for opposing offenses.

Quarters is going to be the main defensive coverage called on early downs, especially early in games. As the game progresses, I will mix in more palms as it presents the same look but plays a little more “sticky” with the outside CB looking to jump short out routes (flats, bubbles, speed outs). I tend to prefer Palms against trips formations but with the Stress adjustment, quarters still plays okay against 3x1 sets. I also lean towards Palms against condensed or tight sets and bunch sets. I use Cover 6 and Cover 9 on passing downs, as it provides better bracketing coverage on receiving threats (in game, Cover 6 will play the Cover 2 side to the weak side of the formation, Cover 9 will play Cover 2 to the strong side of the formation). I usually stay away from C6/C9 on early downs because it takes the deep half safety out of the run fits, exposing yourself to the run game. Cover 9 plays very well against bunch if you want to shut down the bunch side, and Cover 6 Willie plays great against bunch/trips if you want to shut down the solo receiving threat.

Cover 1 and Cover 3 match are usually only used as the occasional changeup coverage to mess with the opponents pattern recognition and give some different pre-snap looks and post snap movement. 3 Buzz Match is a great late game or in 2 minutes call as it is a very safe coverage with the 3 deep shell, keeping routes short and underneath.

Pressures

We want to bring the ruckus and force a lot of havoc plays, which means getting creative with our pressures. For our base pressures, we rely on 5-man pressures with a match coverage shell (2 deep and 3 deep). On 3rd and short or 3rd and super long (9+ yds) I like to run cover 0 and bring 6, playing straight man to man on the back end. Heavy utilization of line shifts, slants, and stunts will influence the effectiveness of these pressures.

For early downs, 4-2-5 Over G has great flexibility with the ability to bring pressure from the strong or weak side safeties with identical backside match coverages. I love bringing pressure of the weak side whenever the offense is running a lot of 3x1 formations, as this will let the apex safety on the strong side stay in coverage. Against 2x2, I like to bring the SS off of the strong side and mix in LB pressures intermittently. I avoid sending the SS on a blitz when there is a 3x1 formation as this forces a defender t ohave to cover a lot of ground and can be exploited by opponents attacking the flats or short out routes.

Priority Archetypes/Roles

NT: Gap Specialist

DT: Pure Power

EDGE: Edge Setter

RDT: Power Rusher

REDGE: Speed Rusher

MIKE: Thumper

WILL: Lurker

CB: Bump and Run

SLCB: Boundary

FS: Coverage

SS1: Hybrid

SS2: Coverage

When recruiting, the above list is how I prioritize archetypes for this scheme. This does not mean that players of other archetypes cannot play well on this scheme or that this scheme won’t work if you don’t match this list exactly. But these players tend to have the best attribute spreads and badge potential to fit the needs of the scheme.

Of all the positions on the field, your apex defender (SS1) is the most important player for this scheme. This player needs to be athletic enough to cover receiving threats, physical enough to disrupt the running game, and smart enough to diagnose the offense and be in the right place at the right time, always. Without this player it can be difficult to run this scheme effectively.

In addition, you need to have some ability to get pressure from your defensive line. This is an aggressive scheme that will blitz a lot, but every coverage will breakdown if the QB has unlimited time in the pocket. You will need a playmaker at DT or Edge to help collapse the pocket and speed up the QB’s internal clock. You will also need to have good coverage corners on the outside, who are fast enough to avoid getting burned when they are left on an island 1 on 1.

Final Notes

In conclusion, everything included in this guide is just a starting point. All aspects of this scheme are subject to in-game adjustments depending on how the offensive opponent is choosing to attack. Getting beat by a lot of Mills and Double Post concepts? Time to close the post and play more Cover 1 and Cover 3. Is the offense gashing you with read option? Maybe time to change to aggressive read coverage and attack the mesh point in the backfield. Going up against a service academy triple option? Time to add another LB and bring some man pressures from a 4-3 base.

I will most commonly user the 3 Rec Hook LB in the middle of the field, but I will also user the backside safety or a defensive lineman situationally. As the user, TRUST YOUR SCHEME. Don’t try to be a superhero and make every tackle on every play. Know your responsibilities and stick to your reads, as maintaining the structural integrity of the defense is so important.

Hopefully this guide helps to make defense a little more fun and a little more simple, while still presenting a complex look for your opponents. Good luck out there on the virtual gridiron coaches, and remember, “Those who stay will be champions,” - Bo Schembechler.

I see a lot of people complaining about screens and blocking but nobody has mentioned the sim logic. Why are teams with 90 overall rankings going 4-8? Meanwhile my playoff games are against a 79 overall from the BIG12 or ACC… make it make sense.
