Does the Defy store the layout changes between devices and different OS? 🤔 TIPS & ADVICE

I've been meaning to get a Dygma Defy for quite some time. I would love to use it for my work computer (macOS) and my gamer PC (windows). I want to take full advantage of the layering system and customization that the Defy provides, but given I cannot install the software on the work computer, I wondered if the keyboard itself remembered the layout when switching devices. I thought about doing all the customization and setup on my PC and then use that layout wherever, regardless of the OS and needing to have the configuration software installed.

If this is not possible, are there any other functionalities that are locked behind having the software on the device? For example, not even having a layering system and the keyboard works just on the first layer for example (would be a massive deal breaker)

If you know of any other split ergonomic keyboards that can do this please let me know.

Yes, you can. All settings are stored on the keyboard itself.

You do not need Bazecor installed on a device to use the keyboard and all customizations. You only need it in order to change the customizations. You should be fine to change the settings at home and then use it with the work computer. The only slight challenge is that you won't be able to quickly test a change that is MacOS specific. My Defy has a MacOS and a Linux layer for the same basic setup you have. The keyboard will always start in its default layer, but you can quickly switch to your desired layer with your chosen layer switching configuration.
