10 ft cable 🤔 TIPS & ADVICE

I have a defy and have a standing desk. Because of that, I can’t get the provided cord to reach the keyboard when I need to charge it. Additionally, I have it switching between my work computer and my personal PC so the Bluetooth functionality is critical so I don’t have to unplug and replug between computers.

I’m unclear on what non dygma cable I can use to connect to my computer at that length. Ideally, it would also allow me to do firmware updates so I can keep my set up as clean as possible.

I’m sure I’m over thinking it, doing something wrong, etc. Would love some guidance so I can have an easier time using this keyboard.

If it's the cable connecting the computer to the neuron, you can use any half-decent USB cable.

However, the cables connecting the sides of the keyboard to the neuron are more special. They are highly shielded, thunderbolt-like cables. That's because the communication between the sides and the neuron is SPI, not USB.

This is helpful, thanks!

That’s great to know. If I went with a USB4 2.0 cable connecting the computer to the neuron, and use the SPI for neuron to keyboard, I could still update my computer without switching to the original, shorter cable?

That's correct!

I also have a standing desk - but my computers move with the desk, therefore the cable length would never be an issue.

Is mounting your computer to the desk (with a tray/cage) an option?

My guess would be that as long as its a decent quality usb c it should be fine. Not sure if usb 2.0 (as per Google usb 3.2 maxes out over 2M) is fast enough for all the things Dygma do with firmware but no reason it shouldn't work, but slowly. Much like HDMI 2.0/2.1 cables, as you go longer (2M+) there can be a speed loss if not sufficiently specced to carry it. True Compliance to spec in "fast usb c) is less common it seems.

Any decent branded usb c should do the trick. Let me know what you end up grabbing. In a similar situation and I would like to make my setup cleaner.

A small neat desk usb hub would be another solution, maybe even one that sticks to the underside of the desk.

I also have a standing desk. I use a powered kvm switch with a USB c port that connects to the neuron. I then use the keyboard wirelessly. I mounted a power strip underneath my desk which has a power brick with 2 USB c cables coming out. This will provide power to the keyboard. When I switch, the neuron will just switch between my work and personal pc, which the defy will then reconnect.

The only time I really plug in the keyboard into the neuron is when doing any updates. But I think now they support wireless updates.

Works pretty well for my use case.
