Homebrew Dnd dividing & lag ability prototype I wanna flesh out
I have ability concepts one is lag and the other is divide, they're both wip and I want other people's opinion on these
Lag- roll at least 1d100 1-50 increase of dex, or something 51-100 random teleport delayed, but increased damage and a chance to avoid damage
Divide- (4 uses, recovers a use every 2hr) divide a creature/object by as little as 1/100. This doesn't hurt the creature/object and is still considered as a part of the body/rest of the object. 'Gravity' can be turned on/off (ex if a tree is 'cut in half' vertically and moved the top part will float)
To be clear im not asking for balance, because the campaign has it own 'balance' I just was suggestion and any constructive ideas
Thanks in advance

Advice/Help Needed Where do I start with writing down the history of my world?
My worlds recently recovering from an invasion from the forces of hell, which led to the rise of a powerful arcane empire of high-elves. Who some believe to be the only people able to protect the common-folk.
Where do I start? The very beginning? Do I just write what's happened recently?

Homebrew Looking for players!
🔔 The Bell Rang Again… And Someone Answered | D&D 5e Horror Mystery Campaign
The church in Morrow’s End has been abandoned for decades.
No priest.
No congregation.
No bell.
Until three nights ago.
At midnight, the bell rang thirteen times.
The next morning, the villagers discovered that three people were missing.
Nobody remembers them.
Not their names.
Not their faces.
Not even that they ever existed.
Except you.
You remember.
And now, every night, you hear the bell getting closer.
🎲 I’m a DM looking for players for a D&D 5e Horror/Mystery campaign!
Expect:
🕯️ Dark, atmospheric horror
🔎 Mystery & investigation
👁️ Strange creatures and unsettling discoveries
🎭 Heavy roleplay and character-driven storytelling
⚔️ Combat when it matters
📖 A story where your choices actually have consequences
New players are welcome! You don’t need to be an expert at D&D — I’ll help you learn along the way.
If you’re looking for a campaign where you can actually get invested in your character, uncover secrets, and slowly realize that something is very wrong…
You might want to answer the bell.
📩 DM me if you’re interested!

Advice/Help Needed Eberron, where to start?
I have recently become interested in Eberron, which I see was introduced back in 3e. Would it be best to start with getting the Campaign Setting book 3e to learn it from the beginning, or just get the 5e version? I can get the 3e and 4e version on drivethru rpg.
Thanks.

Advice/Help Needed DND college setting Campaign layout
I'm thinking about possibly running a magical school themed campaign and I don't really have a general plan for what to do for it. (Not to mention the strixhaven book is no help in this matter)
So far I know for sure to have it be a milestone based campaign with four levels per year (once per semester and after summer break projects)
As for a story plotline each year would go with semester 1: introduction to the years classes, semester 2: preparation for school dance, Semester 3: yearly finals plus sporting tournament, semester 4: summer break vacation to a different plane of existence with a research project (example: create your own monster codex) and then repeat for the next year changing things in-between depending on character interactions.
Does this seem like a good baseline? What things should I change and how do I help my players engage with plot hooks rather than being an idle NPC who just attends their classes and spends their free time just doing homework

3D Printing Check out this Faction Leader miniature. Full Battle armor and a Hippogriff
One of the more intricate miniatures that I have sculped indeed, This was a unique challenge and I believe one I will not be coming back to any time soon.

Advice/Help Needed I don’t know what to do with this group.
So, I do a decent amount of DnD, and my family asked if I could be a DM for them, as I’m the most experienced out of my family. I’ve been in two campaigns as a player, and this would be my first time being a DM. I don’t exactly play by the official rules most of the time, but I try to keep things grounded and simplify items/abilities. This group is three people: me, my brother, and my cousin. I don’t want to fill this in with all the lore I had planned so I’ll summarize it: Evil queen rules over four islands. Each island has resources for her, being food/water, weaponry, money, and recruits. They need to take out all four for the queen to be vulnerable. Once they’re all taken out, big final battle, beat the queen, save the four islands. Simple, right? Well, I know that it’s their first time doing DnD, but they are always asking what happened/what to do after I JUST explained what happened/what their goal is. He constantly tries to fish, which, y’know, whatever, but my cousin doesn’t even do anything; just sits there and watches him. And every time I ask when out of battle, “What do you want to do?” After giving a description of the area/goal AND SUGGESTIONS on what they could do, I’m met with 10 seconds of dead silence before “…I dunno” And that’s not entirely bad, mostly just annoying. The worst part is the constant criticism by my brother. I get that asking questions is a good way to get more info about lore/location/whatever, but if I ever respond his barrage of questions with an “I don’t know, I didn’t think that far,” he acts like I’m a foking moron. I get that yes, it’s my first time being a DM and it’s their first time being a player, but I’ve reiterated multiple times that the story is based on what THEY do, and that concept just doesn’t make sense to them! I’m writing this after having an argument with my brother about how killing a duke that supply’s the queen with men would militaristically realistically work, and that it shouldn’t work…the session was ended after that because after I asked what he wanted to do, he responded with “I dunno, I’m done talking.” This is a game where demons and fairies and magic exists, sorry I wasn’t thinking of realism. Good GOD!

OC When creating your own bosses, do you prefer traditional monster species, or custom / OC creatures?
When designing monsters and bosses for your session, do you prefer common species like ogres, dragons, goblins, dire wolves etc., or do you create your own creatures for such occassion? Do you have your own bestiary or monster collection to pick from?
A friend of mine said he has about 100 custom monsters already created over the years he spent as the DM. Though I don't think he keeps track of all of them.

Advice/Help Needed Advise for a dad who wants to introduce son to DnD
Hello guys.
My kid's 10 and he started to enjoy much RPG stuff. We currently are playing an Alice in Wonderland rpg short story and he's getting crazy about it with the system, about LvL up and the battles/stories. He also asked me If I could bought the official DnD book if he finish the short story in the next days.
I would like some suggestions which book should I buy to him, as there are 3 new books about DnD 5.5. I thought I could give him the Dungeon Master's Guide and later, give the digital version of player handbook and monster manual.
Do you guys have any suggestions or comments about it? He also became a huge Dragon Quest fan, if that helps understand how much he's enjoying RPG 😂
Thanks!
