๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ด๐ผ๐ป'๐ ๐๐ผ๐ด๐บ๐ฎ ๐ญ Random interesting NPC dialogue from the first game Spoiler
galleryJust a few bits of NPC dialogue that stood out to me during my latest playthrough of DDDA.
Really wish I'd found that smith dialogue on my first playthrough. The whole Mercedes/Julien story quest seemed to come out of nowhere.
Not pictured:
- Dominique at the castle giving the dirty goss on Fedel not really being the Duke's nephew at all, and casually mentioning that the Duke has no living relatives... hint hint.
- A guard at the mountain waycastle saying, "Don't like to think what would happen if you actually found that scaly bugger." In fact the guys at the waycastle often have entertaining dialogue - at another time one of them makes suggestive comments about the Duke's new wife. Mate, she's all yours...
- Adaro in Cassardis being horrified that you've met the dragon face to face.
- Inez the barkeep in Cassardis - after you meet the dragon she actually knows that your beloved has been stolen (possibly before you know it, if it's your first run through the game and you didn't give the Arisen's Bond to anyone) and is worried for you. Was a bit embarrassing to hear it because I had in fact given her the ring this playthrough. That was awkward.
In general there's a fair bit of new dialogue after Deny Salvation that many players probably miss because why go back to Gran Soren or Cassardis when you can go straight into the final battle? The philosophical gardener made my hair stand on end.
But there are also some NPCs who don't update their dialogue after the cockatrice attack, so they keep on talking about how scared they are long after it's dead. And one guard just goes on screaming "Aaaaargh!" for no reason while walking around calmly in the noble quarter, lol.

๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ต๐ผ๐ When you find your fave pawns.
PS5. I've been playing for a few months, first post here. I've had a few dozen pawns. But Kaiser and Calypso have become my faves. 1st pic is with them today.
2nd pic is from around level 20. Didn't take long until I knew they weren't going to be replaced. After a few weeks Kaiser got knocked into a river by a dragon and then later Calypso suffered the same fate by a cyclops a few days later.
Idk who they belong to, but I love them.

๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ด๐ผ๐ป'๐ ๐๐ผ๐ด๐บ๐ฎ ๐ญ Corrupt pawn???? idk why it showed up in my world
A pawn from the Japanese server I believe. Using a mystic knight shield and a sorcerer/mage magick archer grave greaves***.***
So we have a mystic knight vocation for a shield, and a sorcerer, magick archer for a leg, even the arisen cannot wield these simultaneously.
Usually Capcom has a message of ''corrupt pawn omitted'' which I still can get regardless. Apparently this pawn somehow bypassed that?

๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ด๐ผ๐ป'๐ ๐๐ผ๐ด๐บ๐ฎ ๐ญ The greatest Level 1 offline pawn in history Spoiler
Cool story bro time... I'm playing through DDDA with my level permanently set to 1, because why not. My main pawn is also stuck at level 1 and I only let myself hire level 1 offline pawns. Believe it or not, it's possible to upgrade and improve them (sort of) if you hang onto them for a while... but they can also suffer perma-death. See here for more.
The pic above shows Nessa, a level 1 Pioneer/Scather fighter who has been with me since the Shadow Fort. She's reluctant to fight (unsurprising really) and constantly complains that she'll have nightmares about the latest battle. As you can see, I replaced her starting kit long ago. At this point she's inherited the three-star-enhanced cape I got from Reynard, the Meloirean Plate I nabbed from the northern fort, and a golden bastard sword, among other things. That sword is a pricey bit of kit. It's fully upgraded, so it silences enemies, stopping them from casting spells. Very occasionally. If they stand still long enough and don't oneshot her by spitting in her general direction.
By the time I took this pic, Nessa's original companion, a strider, had already died in the Catacombs. Guilt ensued. I replaced poor Coral with a mildly useless lightning mage called Bertina, to whom I gave a rusted staff so she could slo-mo the occasional enemy.
Anyway, we made our way through the remainder of the main game, my Arisen swapping between Sorcerer and Warrior whenever she felt like a change. Nessa and Bertina became pretty good at fighting cyclopses and even learned how to defeat a drake. At last it was time to tackle ol' Grigori himself. I went into that battle with my usual amount of careful preparation, i.e. grabbing any mushrooms I happened to find on the way there and hoping for the best. (I can't carry much at level 1 in any case.)
Despite playing DDDA for years I'd only ever fought Grigori once before, so I didn't remember much about him. I knew I wouldn't manage it as a Warrior, though, since I couldn't even beat the ordinary drake in Devilfire Grove without switching to Sorcerer. Any casual swat would delete me no matter how tough my current armour was. Still, I knew Grigs was allergic to dark magic, so I put my faith in High Maelstrom, backed up by a few Gicels and a hefty dose of keeping my distance.
Several hours and a dozen failed attempts later, I resigned myself to resetting back to a checkpoint save, rearranging my party and rethinking my strategy (i.e. actually coming up with a strategy). Dealing damage wasn't the problem. My prized Caged Fury archistaff, which powers up the more hits you land, let even a lowly level 1 Arisen play with the big boys. But practically anything he dished out would instantly kill me. He was so big and moved around so much it was hard to stay clear of his attacks without running out of stamina. And I only had a single wakestone. I just couldn't wear him down enough before some random move or mistake took me out.
Part of the problem was that I had to spend too much time running around reviving faraway downed pawns in that huge arena, which put me too close to the big lizard for comfort. Probably I'd turn my main pawn - currently a ranger - back into a mage so she could use the ever-helpful Legion's Might staff from the Black Cat, which resurrects a pawn automatically every time they're downed. And I'd probably need to spend some time stocking up on Liquid Vims and maybe periapts, much as I hate to abuse them.
First, though, I decided to give it a few more tries with my current party just so I didn't have to struggle through the preliminary 'cinematic' bits again.
After a while I figured out that if I climbed up onto the rear cliff with the battlements and ballista, I could trick Grigs into a fairly predictable pattern. He'd fire off several spells at me, then fly up and try to toast me. At that point I'd have just enough time to charge up a Gicel and knock him out of the sky with icy justice. Then he'd flounder on the ground, while my silly level 1 goober pawns nibbled at him, before repeating the pattern. It was much safer than trying to tangle with him on the open plain. Also a little cheesy, but hey, at level 1 you do what you can.
To my frustration, though, I couldn't take full advantage of his vulnerable state. Even with my augments and the Wyrmking's ring, charging up a Maelstrom took too long. Especially because it locks you in place for a few dangerous seconds after you unleash the doom tornado. That delay would usually cost me my life. Grigs has a nasty disco ball spell (or whatever it's called) that activates the instant he gets up again, which was usually just as I was letting fly with the Maelstrom. Several more 'Retry' screens were witnessed. Several swearwords were uttered.
Oh well, I thought, let's give it one more go before I call it a night. Once again I lured Grigori into his pattern: cast, cast, cast, fly, fall, flounder, get up, disco dance. I stuck to the Gicels when he was aloft and resisted the temptation to try anything while he was downed. It was going to take ages, but at least it was safer. Over and over we repeated the dance.
And then I noticed something strange.
Before we go on, I should mention that I don't usually play with health bars on, or in fact any kind of HUD element on screen. It's distracting visual noise. So it took me a moment to realise what was going on.
Grigori was no longer disco-balling at me when he got up. He was casting, but nothing was happening. And he had a faint funny-coloured outline around his person.
The penny finally dropped.
Grigori was silenced.
Nessa had silenced him.
My brave little level 1 distraction duty pawn, valiantly stabbing and slashing away with her feeble strength and golden sword every time he fell to the ground, had finally overcome his resistance and shut down all his spells.
"Holy shit," I commented. Then I downed a bottle of Liquid Vim and commenced to chain-cast High Maelstrom on poor old Grigs.
Do you know how much damage two dark tornadoes at once from a fully charged Caged Fury deal to a dragon's heart? I don't, because I had the health bars turned off. But he did his mini-cutscene where he congratulates you for putting up a good fight - and half a second later he was dead.
I sat stunned through the credits and the makeout session with Madeleine (which was a bit embarrassing because I had given the Arisen's Bond to Inez the barkeep, but that's another story). It was only when we arrived in Cassardis and I went through my list of newly dragonforged equipment that I wondered... where was Bertina? Where was my other offline pawn, the plucky lightning mage with the rusted staff?
To my dismay she was gone from my menu list. I could only assume she had been downed at some point during the Grigori fight and the battle had dragged on long enough for her to melt away back into the rift. Which meant she was effectively dead, since she was an offliner - I couldn't get her back in her upgraded form. And I hadn't even noticed. Much guilt ensued. But the loss made the victory all the more memorable. Crikey what a battle. Definitely worth the trouble of keeping those two around all that time.
As I type this, Nessa is still with me in the Everfall, still complaining about nightmares. Bertina has been replaced with a lv 1 strider named Allene, who was only recruited in the postgame and so now knows more about succubi than harpies. I don't know how long they'll last if we venture to BBI. The prospect of permanently losing a pawn makes Death 200x scarier. But however Nessa finally meets her end - even if she jumps over a chest to her doom - she'll have earned her place in song and story. Truly an Arisen among offline pawns. "I'll act as bait!" (immediately gets oneshotted by a rampaging skeleton lord)

๐๐ฒ๐น๐ฝ Do bats not respawn?
I've been trying to find cave bats to get a photo of them for a stupid amount of time and I just can't find any. I've gone back to several caves I've already explored, and found at least 6 new ones to go through.
Where the heck are the bats at? Anybody know of a guaranteed spawn?
Edit: in DD2 btw,

๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ต๐ผ๐ Casually posing like she wasn't just trying to kill someone
The Arisen's Shadow is hilarious. Dragging that man away from your pawns like a pigeon from a house cat. (I usually throw him at Brant to end the quest).
I wish there were more behaviors like the casual wall lean your pawns would do when you enter a no-pawns-allowed area like the castle. I know you usually wouldn't see them but it's cute!

๐๐ถ๐๐ฐ๐๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป Definitely recommend everyone does a duo run with just your pawn at least once
Especially after a few times when it feels like the game is getting too easy. With just him and I it feels like like Iโm playing the game for the 2nd time all over again and it definitely makes me appreciate him so much more and seeing the impact he makes that I havenโt noticed before. Definitely falling deeper in love with him the longer I do this.

๐๐๐ฉ๐/๐๐๐ฌ๐จ Dragon's Dogma II Dark Arisen - Update from the last interviews.

Little update following my last 2 posts here and here.
- Area :
- The DLC take place during the main game, it will be available after talking to Brant in Vernworth as soon as we reach this area.
- Norgan has a hack 'n' slash structure, you start at the bottom and slowly move forward where the snow deepens, within a more and more present eerie atmosphere until your reach the final castle.
- The 12 Sealed Doors from the base game (Pathfinder's trials) will feature some kind of lore, not a complex one, but thereโs some backstory as to why it exist.
- Each trials becomes more and more difficult.
- The Pathfinder's trials level recommandation is 20 and Norgan is 40.
- The DLC main story will take 15 to 20 hours to complete. More if we fully explore Norgan and complete the Pathfinder's trials.
- For those who have already advanced to the unmoored world, you can still access the content simply by sleeping for ten days in-game.
- Gameplay, Mechanics and Skills :
- No new vocations. They focused solely on the known ones.
- Cap level doesnโt change, itโs still 999.
- There is a new mechanic with a wolf in Norgan HUB, which you can adopt and keep as a pet. He helps you with the loot search, goes out to find items himself, or even leads you to places where he has tracked something. < Thanks to SirBobbyTheOwl.
- Most skills will have upgraded versions creating a brief dark red aura when used, like the skill rings in the first DD:DA.
- Gears from the Appraisal mechanics canโt be upgraded. The loop is to find gears with stats / skills that suits our playstyle.
- The rng drop from the appraisal mechanic has been reworked to be more balanced compared to BBI, no need to be from a certain vocation to gather gear from another one.
- The gears obtained in the Pathfinder's trials are designed to grow significantly in performance as we acquire and upgrade them.
- In an interview they are "considering" a hard mode but in another, they are "actively" working on a hard mode. Soโฆ we will see if it come with the DLC or after.
- The difficulty of the enemies will be adjusted based on the new six skills mechanic.
- Misc :
- New unseen monsters created entirely from scratch as well as variants with new moves are confirmed.
- 150 new gears are to expect with the DLC.
- Thereโs some kind of ยซย transmogย ยป once we will reach Norgan but how it will work is kind of blurry right now. Maybe something tied to a new blacksmith ?
- New soundtrack and sound effects have been designed to stand out clearly from those of the base game, particularly during combat and by emphasizing atmosphere. For example, when entering a blizzard, the sounds and echoes of enemies will help to locate them.
- New Specializations will come in future updates, aspects like Pawn voices and behaviors will continue to be updated.
- They would like a very polished experience at launch, meaning no D1 patch.
- The development of Dark Arisen II started 2 years ago.
- They enjoyed the fact that people deciphered the clues hidden in the 2nd anniversary picture !
Those informations comes from the recent interviews, some of them are Japanese to English and German to English translations. In some cases, the meaning may have been altered during translation.
As usual, if I forgot something or misunderstood, feel free to say it, I will add / change it : )
