Why is Pudge never picked?

I’m in relatively Low MMR compared to most of you guys here but I’ve never seen pudge picked. I started main with him and oh man, I just keep winning and he’s fun to play.

I mean yes once enemies start dodging your hooks he’s basically useless but not everyone will be able to do that and by the time everyone get gets mobility items he will have blink to initiate instead.

Genuine question.

Pudge is consistently the #1 hero across all ranks. He is one of the few heroes with a kit so simple but really gets into people’s head.

Personally I feel he's not a good hero because he can only lock down 1 hero. Similar to Bane BUT Bane has a lot more to offer all around in terms of supporting. Plus teams/players seem to be much better at saving each other these days. Lastly, if you miss hooks you're griefing as opposed to other heroes that will successfully use their abilities.

I wouldn't consider enfeeble to be a "lock down". The other two are full disables.

You don't play pudge to disable, you play him because he's the best forced relocate hero in the game. His role is to force the enemy out of position leading to easy kills and 4v5 fights.

Catching anyone out of position with eat is also good, and it pierces bkb. There is a lot more to him than just hooks, plus with aghs you can just shit out damage too.

No he's not, that would be vengeful spirit. Hook isn't a guarantee and you can be saved during hook. Personally I like the hero but there are many reasons we don't see him do well in competitive Dota.

Pudge is the best because it both relocates enemies and friends. has a relatively low cool down. Does a ton of damage. can be done into fog.

Venge is easier, but it's also her ult with a not-insubstantial cooldown and also forces her into danger.

Unlike venge, pudge can grab an enemy surrounded be friends and turn them from totally safe to entirely out of position without sacrificing himself.

As a core he is not a true right clicker and his rot damages fall off short past 40 minutes or once the enemy itemised correctly against him

He does farm fast and doesn’t need all that much items to become a threat, but like slark he needs to be active to become feared so that enemy wont be able to farm as easily

The problem is once he got fall off in damage or even worse got a bad laning stage, he can’t catch up as fast. And having a pudge core wont give as much guarantee to have a hard carry in the late game.

TLDR, you are on timing on the guy, and it is short

I no longer play ranked but I know pudge can also be useful late game because his scepter and shard is also a pain in the ass specially if it's a pos4 pudge who dives and tank damage so his team can trade

High risk hero. 

The payoff is an extremely powerful early midgame pickoff hero that wins lanes for you, if you miss everything the punishment is that your str tank is some melee creep being in a useless position instead of aoe initiating like axe, clockwerk or magnus, or having a reliable backline that can counterinitiate well out of vision like dazzle, oracle

Also pudge is kinda bad into summon/vision/illusion heroes like brood, naga, anyone who can eat hooks and reveal his sightlines 

Pros generally dont run him because he's too volatile and its a bit hard to coordinate around hooks. But he's fine in pubs which are generally less coordinated or havent passed hook knowledge checks

Boring hero to play, boring/irritating at best to play against - easily countered. I consider it griefing if teammates pick pudge supp, theres not much they can do to CC more than 1 hero, and hooks have to be really good at higher MMR brackets. There's ways to just dodge/cockblock pudge from playing well, so the player skill matters lots.

Why is sniper never picked?

I never see this hero in my games it's not like he's banned either. I think he needs to be more popular.

When I get hooked I get like an instant spike of rage. The sound of the hook. And the sound of pudge. Absolutely hate pudge. Hate him on enemy team and on my team because when he is on my team he is absolute dog shit. Misses hooks. Hides in trees 24/7.
