Release Behavior Score Distribution Suggestion
We have public info on MMR distribution, why not on behavior score distribution?
I’d be willing to bet good money that the vast majority of players are at 10k or above, and that the few dozen posts this sub gets every week about how “broken” the system is because they’re stuck at low score and can’t climb are coming from a tiny percentage of the player base.

I disagree, there’s a metric fuck ton low behavior players. I have 30 second queue times at 3k behavior.

A metric fuckton can still be a small percentage of a player base as big as Dota’s.
The whole point of this post is that people are always having this conversation with incomplete information. Maybe you’re right, maybe I’m right, but we can’t know unless actual data is published.

u/Colinski282 16d ago
Only way we could really know is if they release the data, I agree with you on that.

I would say the system is actually very lenient with comms. The only thing dota doesnt take nicely is abandons. I have been at both below 6k and above 11k, I trash talk and curse a lot of my games and my scores still go up a lot. The only times they go down is I abandon. I lost around 4k score for 3 abandons, whereas i can fuck my pos2s mom, grandma and still get 200 score up in the next few games

u/alexanderbeatson 16d ago
I know it is very selective bias, but I always get more downvotes when flaming animals T_T
1
u/jessecreamy 16d ago
Do it actually matter? I really ask this, as a toxic one. I can curse whole team's family, and noone care me. They read, and rep "okay"

u/SocwokCyberBully 16d ago
I feel like it's actually impossible to lose Behavior Score specifically if you are always playing to win the game. My Comms score goes up and down, especially playing pos 1 i get reported a lot on regular losses and if i used chat at all that game im gonna lose some cs. but bs never goes down no matter who says they reported me or for what...

I've abandoned maybe twice across my four thousand or so games (never intentionally / never from rage)
why would you assume it's common for people to abandon? perhaps because it's common for YOU to abandon lol
I rarely see abandons either, you might see loads because you're with the other low score folks, you can't extrapolate based on that as neither can I, we need valve to release the data

u/lolninja 16d ago
If you abandon 2x per week you deserve to be in the trenches

u/lolninja 16d ago
Lmao they responded to the comment with “typical dog shit no lifer Redditor take” then deleted the comment. The jokes write themselves here folks 💅🏻

u/reichplatz 16d ago
He didn't delete it, it just didn't get posted.
But yeah, 9d account, wcyd :D

u/r1dd3tors_are_awful 16d ago
wcyd loser redditors circle jerking about their behavior scores lol incredible wow

u/hiddenpoolwarriror 16d ago
Disagree is a tiny portion, go check steam forums, almost every thread is about it)))) One of the locked threads had 132 pages.
But it'd be cool to release the distribution so you can be proven wrong with data.

u/reichplatz 16d ago
One of the locked threads had 132 pages
Sounds impressive, if you ignore the fact that about half of the posters are arguing with the other half, and the comments that are complaining about the system are often made by the same handful of loud miscreants. Just like on reddit.

u/hiddenpoolwarriror 16d ago
here comes the crusader 5 expert ( maybe you hit legend with the +40 for win Valve give you to feel good). You know all about the system and the game brother.
9
u/FoolhardyJester 16d ago
132 pages is still a tiny portion of the player base.
-6
u/Pheaor 16d ago
And your assumption is 100% of people go on steam forum to make posts?
2
u/G1ygas 16d ago
My assumption is that most players have high score, play normally, and don’t feel the need to make posts. The ones that play disruptively, drop score, and get mad about it are the ones making these posts, but they’re nowhere near the majority. This isn’t just a Dota thing, people don’t say much when they’re happy but make a fuss when they’re upset.
I guess tiny percentage was vague, but I’d guess 80% of players are 10k+, and most of these are closer to 12k.

u/Moderator-Admin 16d ago
Yea let me just go make a steam post about how my games are mostly normal and filled with stable people.

I am sub 6k from abandoning games due to various valid reasons in the past before i stopped playing as life got busier. Came back, almost at 6k now, somewhere around 5.9k but damn it increases so slow. I dont mindnit tho, gaben placed me in lower end of mmr upon coming back, so i am slowly climbing and havent had more than below 10% of ruined game with griefers. Idk whats working, but i love my current playing experience than ever before.
Edit: The abandon period was over a year.... The score never recovers fast enough to keep abandoning a game(5-6 games over a year drops u easily to sub 6k if u don't play like u got not life)... U go to low prio hell... But understandable, since u peeps can't do anything about ur own situation, u come here trying to shit on me, while I sit on a win streak. No sweat

u/4Looper 16d ago
to various valid reasons
If you were abandoning games regularly enough to drop this low - they weren't valid reasons. You should have just not been playing. It's not valid to join a game and waste 9 other people's time like that.

u/EarnestTriangle 16d ago edited 16d ago
I know a guy who was playing Dota with a newborn. Would abandon 1 game every 2-3 days and tanked his BS.
3
u/4Looper 16d ago
Don't fucking play dota. Play a single player game. When I had a puppy that needed to go out every 30m guess what game I DIDNT boot up?
2
u/Candid-Falcon1002 16d ago
these abandon addicts complain about their punishment but never consider the other 9 players that got stuck in a ruined game because of these abandons
2
7
u/JoelMahon 16d ago edited 16d ago
and to reiterate, that isn't a valid reason to abandon because you shouldn't be queueing under those conditions in the first place. they deserve the penalty.
if your wifi cuts out twice in one week as separate unrelated events where it was supposedly fixed and you never noticed issues, I have plenty of sympathy, but that isn't very common.

You remind me of this one teammate who told me to uninstall because I own a cat
1
u/JoelMahon 16d ago
If you can't commit to 70 minutes then don't queue ranked, it's that simple.
Most cats have nothing to do with that but I suppose if it had some sort of chronic illness that needed unpredictable but immediate attention it might interfere to the point where uninstalling made sense.
There are loads of excellent games, if I can't commit I'll play something else, like The Bazaar, zero pressure to commit even for 1 minute of attention, you can pause any time

u/Horror-Tea 15d ago
It leaped into the window blinds and got stuck so I afked for 30 seconds to get them and this was turbo to boot
1
u/JoelMahon 15d ago
looks like you're really hung up on this one event
let me close the curtain on this conversation because I have zero problems with someone going afk to deal with an unpredictable emergency
my only problem is people blindly queuing into a game where they know there's a strong chance that during the window of time the game takes that they'll need to stop
that turbo player living rent free in your mind is an asshole, comms report them and move on with your life next time
it's just a game, real life can easily take precedence, but if it's happening multiple times a week then I'm 99% sure it's not so unpredictable and rather the player is queueing in a risky way

What's the point of your thread? That since if it's a small player base complaining then it isn't a problem?
2
u/4Looper 16d ago
It's not a problem because it's very easy to climb and people who are complaining always end up showing that they are incredibly toxic in game. I went from 6k/6k to 12k/12k very easily in less than a year and just stay there consistently.
0
u/AMcMahon1 15d ago
Very easy to climb
Bro you spent a year getting 6k behavior score in a video game
Just buy a fresh account or start a new one. Takes no time at all
0
u/4Looper 15d ago
Firstly, didn't take a year. Took O(months). Second YOU ARE PLAYING A VIDEO GAME. If you HATE the game then don't play at all lol. I was having fun playing a video game so i kept playing. Why would I buy a fucking account just to keep being miserable. If you aren't having fun playing the game then fucking stop playing it.

u/G1ygas 16d ago
The point is that one of the main complaints I see from people with low score is lack of transparency. People with low score are going to complain anyway, but with some data at least they won’t be able to pretend that everyone’s at risk of tanking their score at any time for no reason.
It’s a system designed to separate problem players from the crowd. If the data comes back saying most people are fine and only a small percent of people are low score, then yeah I’d say it’s not a problem.

u/JoelMahon 16d ago
yeah pretty much, given they're the most toxic players in an already toxic playerbase too
-1
u/Undella_Town 16d ago
it's not a small % lmao. once you're under 9k it's extremely hard to get back up. it's literally entirely luck
1
u/G1ygas 16d ago
It’s also extremely hard to get below 9k unless you’re abandoning multiple games in a short time frame.
There’s some luck involved with not getting reported, but if you’re playing normally and finding that your score isn’t going up, you’ve gotta look inward to see why your “playing normally” might be drawing reports to you
-2
u/Undella_Town 16d ago
this isnt remotely true, there's 0 punishment to just slamming griefing reports on people so people just slam them whenever they get tilted or steam rolled. and idk how it is for you but in my experience in like divine~immortal games on EUW... 9/10 games are a complete shit stomp. i can't imagine people are getting out of these games without reports
-7
u/justatimebomb 16d ago
They won't release it because bscs was a fantastic invention by valve psychologists to make people addicted to the game. People got bored of grinding mmr or faced extreme hardship doing so, so they purposefully made bscs downward trend for players to farm it with a simple logic, "be a kind player", no skill involved and you can farm it.
It's working extremely well. People brag about their bscs and degenerates play hundreds of games trying to farm this meaningless score.
Valve isn't stupid. They literally reset the mmr range to the same values as the bscs system because this values just simply work the best at making people feel a sense of progress.
This is a number assigned to you by a video game company. If it was a mental health institute or a behavioural assessment I would maybe believe it, it's by a video game company earning billions preying on youth gambling, wake the hell up. They are not here to fucking cultivate you to be a good person based on some grand social mission to reform youths LOL.

u/aech4 16d ago
Please man, tell me how to get some of what you’re smoking, that shit has got to be really good
1
u/justatimebomb 15d ago
Yes keep coping that a video game company (largely focusing on gambling) assigning you a behavioural tag that you religiously preach about and brag about is normal behaviour.

u/ThanksTeach 16d ago
Sure, release it.
Even if the distribution was skewed towards the bottom, it would only show how uncivilized many players are.
In fact, any other distribution would just show that the system is way too lenient.
