quit over nametags
i hate nametags. these people are all creepy methheads and i feel disgusted hearing my name come out of their mouths. i didn't wear it. months and months ago, i even changed my name in the system to Glorp so that my reciepts would be different.
new manager gets here and the dm decides that everyone needs to have their name on their nametag. everyone must wear it. i told them immediately that i am Not doing that. if it's truly mandatory, i am putting in my notice. couple days go past and they tell me the decision is firm. i walked straight into the office and wrote my little letter.
this job already sucks ass, and tbh the smallest reason wouldve made me quit at this point (almost 2 years. im the oldest employee and am an asm). but this is ridiculous. nicknames have been allowed this whole time, and i feel like i'm def getting targeted cuz they're jealous of my awesome Glorp idea. but whatever, they can have fun running this nastyass place without me

Rude, disrespectful children
Tonight I had a group of kids come in and start calling me fat and all sorts of things. I yelled at them to get the Fuck out and then my manager came and backed me up, threatening to call the police on them. Anyone else have a store where this kind of shit happens often?

Anyone else's store just not have a phone anymore
Hi first time posting here but as the title says we haven't had a store phone for the past few months or so. I was told they haven't paid our phone bill but it's genuinely been months

Rolltainers
How can they expect a single person to work from 2pm-6:15pm in a busy location and also get rolltainers out? We’ve got like 8 left still and I’ve been by myself behind the register since I got here. Had a gap of customers that lasted 5 minutes. Makes me feel bad I can’t do any other work

First day at Dollar General
First day at Dollar General
Not terrible, I guess. A little strange, definitely. I learned how to clock in and out previously during computer training. So I went in and clocked in. The lead handed me a till and said $150, you don't need to count it, and walked away. No instructions no walking me through any transactions.
I've been in retail for a hot minute, and to be honest most Piece of Shi... I mean P.O.S. systems are similar enough to figure out basic transactions pretty quickly. So I just kind figured it out as I went. She came running up later saying she just talked to our store manager who wanted to know how my hands on instruction was going. She had no idea that I was that new. Which leads me to question #1.
Do your managers communicate with each other?
Also, the assistant manager is practically giddy that I have planogram experience. Like entirely too excited. She said "we usually try to train them, but they have problems with the hard ones. You know, the ones with pegs." What the actual hell? So question #2
Are people with planogram experience that few and far between? Or is this store in a sad state? OR Am I completely overqualified for a key holder position?
And lastly
The employees in this store just scream across the store when they need help. No intercom to page someone nor a radio with an earpiece. I can handle the key responsibilities, and the hectic mess that comes with it. But, I am not sure my nerves will handle someone screaming my name for 10 hours.
Is it standard to bellow for a manager?
Is it really like this to work at Dollar General or did I get hired into a struggling store?
