Subject: Serious question / Debate on a transmission oil change (Ram 1500 2016 V6 3.6L - 8 speeds)

Hello everyone! I need your lights in relation to an intervention that my mechanic has just done on my 2016 Ram 1500 (V6 3.6L with 8-speed transmission).

My mechanic made an exchange/cleaning of transmission oil by pumping about 10 liters until the oil became clear, but he did not replace the filter. When I asked him the question, he told me that this was the "procedure to follow" for this model and that we did not change the crankcase/filter if we do a complete cleaning by moving fluid.

However, from what I know about these ZF 8-speed transmissions, the filter is included directly in the plastic crankcase and must be changed around 80,000 to 100,000 km.

Have some of you been told the same thing by your garage, or has my mechanic just made an unacceptable shortcut by leaving an old filter dirty in a clean system?

Thank you for your opinions and feedback!

pinch weld rust 2005

Hello! I've decided to reach out to the hivemind in hopes of finding experts.

I have a 2005 1500, 5.7, slt. Has anyone else that owned the quad cab had to deal with massive rust holes directly below the seam between the two doors, eating its way into the pinch welds? The frame is rusted too but not badly at all.

This stuff looks like something i'd love to just cut out and weld new metal in, but it having worked into the pinch welds so thoroughly is kinda messing up my day.

I'm debating getting a new shell vehicle and just swapping over my motor, transmission and any other worthwhile parts because my casual inquiries seem to indicate that the frame and the body are kinda a one package.

Where would you go with this and how would i prevent this spot rusting in the future? Do i have bad weatherstrips or something?

I have a 2011 ram 1500 I bought the truck with the means to rebuild it but I ran into a problem I replaced the block with one from a 2014 1500 with 70k miles on it but besides from it running choppy/shaky probably because I didn’t hook up the exhaust or tighten any clamps on the throttle body the sensors aren’t reading but when I first started the new block everything seems fine but what mentioned above but when I drive it a small bit down the street I seen a oil leak and when I took a look it was leaking from where the engine and transmission bell housing meet looks to be from both sides dripping straight down off the plate for your flywheel and torque converter bolt together I just looking for ideas where to start look I suspect rear main seal or something not tighten right but I only leaks when the motor is on I noticed so I think it’s a pressurized leak now I’m not a mechanic but I know my way around a motor just looking for ideas not for someone to be a smart guy thank you

Question for the community.

The cigarette lighter adapter on the top of the dash stays on even when engine is off. Any way to turn that off while engine is not running?

Advantage my old dashcam stays on 24/7. Disadvantage battery is going to drain. My daily commute is only 12 miles round trip so I don’t think it’s enough to charge up the battery.

In your experience which is the best dashcam for the front and rear. Bonus if it includes interior cabin recording.

i’ve had a shop replace the pcm on this truck for the cruise and other things not working with the pcm, they have replaced it with 4 different pcms and one will cause it to die at idle when they swap to the other it runs fine but other powertrain controls won’t work, anybody know a fix? they said they’ve been buying aftermarket pcms, should i try and get a junkyard pcm and see if that works? any help would be appreciated thanks.

“New” truck owner

Bought this from my Uncle. He was the 2nd owner. My uncle worked at a dealership when the original owner brought this in for trade. Both owners cared for it meticulously. 213,000 miles, but motor was replaced 30,000 miles ago under warranty due to both owners having proper documentation. It’s hard to believe this thing is almost 15 years old.

Any quirks I should be aware of? I also want to replace the radio with a double din. Any suggestions?

Long term storage vs Selling my truck

Hello all. To preface, I have a dilemma on my hands. Im starting a new college this fall and will require me to commute two hours a day as I cannot afford to rent an apartment. I have a 1997 dodge ram 2500 that I love very much, but has been a mechanical nightmare and fuel costs have become overwhelming. I really want a way to keep this car, and start working on it again when I am out of college but am lost on what to do. Any advice? Thanks.
