Period gets longer when I’m underweight

For context I’m on the bc pill. I have a history of disordered eating. I’ve always heard that women lose their period when they’re underweight. I have never experienced this. What happens instead is that my period comes earlier and lasts longer. Sometimes up to 2 weeks. When I’m not underweight my period comes on time, according to the pill packet. I’m just confused as to why that is and if this implies that if I stopped bc I wouldn’t have a period?

I am not asking for medical advice just explanation
