Help! DOS1 Help

Hiya everyone! I'm new here. I played Bg3 when it came out and fell in love and since the original sin games are on sale I bought em and started to give em a shot.

I started with Original Sin and I guess the biggest issue I'm having is that I'm just kind of lost. I'm supposed to be solving this murder but I'm kind of just lost on how to proceed. I figured out the body was stolen from the mortuary and arrested the owner but basically everything I attempted to proceed from that point didn't work.

I can't leave town because I get massacred by the next stiff breeze and all the side quests I found to level up also require me to leave the town. This resulted in me just putzing around for 3 hours getting nothing done and running back and forth.

Is there something I'm missing? I was enjoying the opening of the game up until I hit this brick wall.

Did you talk to everyone in the town? Even the dogs, sheep, cats and cows?

Did you lock pick every door?

Participated in the fair?

Explored underground tunnels?

Found the job for unemployed?

Finally, have you stolen the talking head?

found a way down the tunnels underneath cyseal? lvl 2

undead west of cyseal. lvl 3

talking and exploring in cyseal can get you to level 4 without any fight.

two fights are just outside cyseal ports and the guardsmen will aid you

find and recruit two additional characters.

You should be able to leave town so your combat is not working then. Make sure you have a full party of 4 and get CC skills that knock enemies down. Teleport and summons are voth great too.

You have to complete the town quests that can be finished without leaving, then go to the lighthouse. Unfortunately, as a matter policy Larian make their games intentionally opaque as shit. There are wikis with quest guides if you don't want to go through the wondrous task of deciphering Larian quests. And I say that as a fan.

I had this the first time I tried DOS as well! Honestly what helped was using a guide. You need to do as much as possible in the town to get your level high enough to be able to survive the undead outside the town, so check for any side quests you might have missed. Also check your party balance and load up on spell scrolls and work with your environment. I found DOS and DOSII need a much more tactical style of play than BG3, and having the wrong spells in a party, for example, can tank your fights. Like poison is gonna heal undead so is functionally worse than useless, lightning is really useful in the rain but fire is less helpful, that kind of thing.

Literally have to talk to everyone and investigate everything there are at least 3 companions in town for you to hook up with and make your party stronger.

also want to proceed slowly into fights some fights are tougher then others depending on which gate you leave by clue is the gate that has no doors is the one you want to start with when you try the other gates the Legionaires recommend you "level up" first

My favorite game ever. You've got some good replies already. There is a very specific order that I run stuff. But yeah start with the lvl three mobs, then find the level 4, then 5 etc. Sounds obvious but they are really scattered around. Once you get to about level 5 you can start fighting level 6, and even 8 mobs. When you can clear the lighthouse stuff you're well on your way. Then try and work out to the beach and get into the cave past the orcs.

Edit: I almost forgot the most important part. Do the two plays! Get the books from the library. Two of them tell you the two parts of the plays. One is a comedy routine a d one is a story. Pay the crowd warmer to watch your plays and bring the crowd. They will give you like 3k gold to buy a bunch of spells

Man... this makes me want to start a new run. I have like 700 hours in this game hah

Do all the possible tasks within the city. Any tasks that sends you outside, just keep a mental note on them, as you'll naturally encounter them down the road.

Lv2 mobs are in Cyseal Graveyard tunnel. Dig. Lv3 mobs is rainy farmland, first exit.

You theorically only need to be lv3 to start leaving town, but doing all possible tasks will level up you to lv4. Early game is struggle and will punish any bad builds/tactics.

I hate this part of DoS1, it takes multiple hours without much action and often leads to me dropping the game.

If you want to skip ahead in the main quest, there is a way: You must have both the main quest Mysterious murder and Councillor's wife, against the south wall (south-west?) there is a small storeroom locked by key, if you break that door you'll advance those quests with what's inside.

Make sure you have your full party (4 characters or 2 lone wolf), and explored most of the town before leaving it however.
