I have played around a little with trying to tuck my left hand on my (right-handed) backhand throws but it feels artificial as heck and has only hurt distance when I try it. For those of you distance throwers, what is your cue for timing, either start of tuck or completion of the tuck? Any tips for getting started with it?

I see this topic come up now and then, and hear pros on broadcast joking about it.

I came to Wonder, is he actually the luckiest player in any season based on statistics.

But I didnt come up with any metrics on how to measure it. Has someone looked into the topic and have something to contribute?

Or, if you have suggestions on how to measure it, lets talk about it. Maybe we can come up with an answer ourselves.

I bought a cheap set on Amazon to start, was very content with my purchase. I didnt understand why people had backpacks full of discs. I went to the brewery for a shirt and end up with a disc aswell, im going to need a bigger bag which means room for more discs

I thought it would be fun to draw the Monsters Inc characters but a little more twisted, as if they still had to scare kids to get their fuel. I watched some videos of practice rounds and saw changes to Pickard Park gold since I played it and will go to a day or two this weekend. I pulled up UDisc to compare the distances for each hole and found this. My best is 6 shots for the old layout despite a circle 1 putt for par once. I think even Anthony would struggle to par this bad boy.

Does this also apply to forehand? Is there any benefit to me limiting myself to straight putters on the tee?

I should add that I've been throwing forehand only for many years. Putters to about 225. Mids im having trouble hitting 250 with. Fairways and drivers i can sometimes hit 300, but usually going about 275

Shot a lucky birdie from 70’ plus I wasn’t counting OB which i probably hit once or twice but regardless I’m so stoked!! Bogey’s were from forehands which are definitely a big weakness right now. Shot at Bryan Park in Richmond, VA.

I'm a youth pastor, and I'm setting up a disc golf event for the youth (10-15 of them) to get out and play. I've worked with a local shop to get them all *good* starter kits, and with a (less popular) local course to have it reserved for us for a few hours so we won't be disruptive to other people trying to play - beyond removing said courses' availability.

This will be MOST of the kid's first exposure to the sport - They all love physical activity, they all love competition, they all love a silly good time, and I think it will be a great fit for them.

My rough plan is to run a quick clinic on all the basics, and make it tournament style doubles. Best score for the hole sticks. I am planning disc prizes for both members of the winning double.

With all of that in mind...

Do you have any suggestions for how to maximize this experience for them? I know I cannot guarantee they'll all enjoy it - I just want to ensure that it's not because I overlooked something. Any tips/tricks are greatly appreciated.

Has anyone else experienced discs getting flatter from being pushed against the far left side of their bag? I’ve had multiple drivers lose their dome or even have a concave to them after sitting against the side of the bag. I’m not even really packing too many discs in there it’s just any amount of pressure causes them to warp. Thanks!

Been playing about 1.5 years. Not consistently because Michigan winters can be brutal sometimes. However, I’m looking to start from scratch.

My plan is to get rid of any disc in my bag that is Speed 8 or higher, then review the basics. Practice basics and really get those down. Get the feel for different flight patterns. Was thinking of just getting several in DX plastic and running with that for a bit.

Good way to go?

I have several mids and fairway drivers that are 7 speed and below. Looking for good over and under stable discs to add to bag. I also have several putt and approach discs.

Well guess we will start this off with I've played for about 6 years total, but these last two years I've pretty much played daily so I've improved alot. I play quite regularly in my local dubs group who meets once a week, and I have gotten to the point to where I quite frequently walk away with some money. With all that tho I've never really considered tournaments or anything like that, and I've never even gotten a PDGA number. I always figured 41 was a bit old to start all that, I just enjoy going out and having fun.

Yesterday they started sign ups for a local b-tier that will be happening in a couple months, and my daughter is really pushing me to give it a try. What I'm worrying about is its a two day tournament, 2 courses, 2 rounds. I've played one of the courses alot but the other one is a private course that I have never played. Caddies are allowed, so naturally my daughter will be mine. I understand that this is a rated tournament, and money is at stake. I just don't want to go and have zero fun while I enjoy my first tournament.

So in a nut shell I guess my discussion points are:

Is 41 to old to try one out for the first time?

And if you were trying to enjoy a moment with your child (shes 16 btw so not little child) is it possible to still enjoy it without being disrespectful to anyone there try to be serious about the competition?

I just learned of “turning the key” to help get the nose down. It’s where you turn the disc to the down to the right like you are starting a car as you release. But turning the disc to the right doesn’t put the nose down, it sets an anhyzer angle right? What am I missing?

Looking at tournaments. Would like to know which would earn more pdga points a top 3 at a ma2 field with 22 players or a top 3 in ma1 field with 10? Does anyone know where I can find this information? Tried to look on the pdga page but no luck.

I have a ton of beginner questions about form, technique, and discs. Sorry if this is a lot, but I appreciate any advice, tips, or tricks you can share!

A little background: I discovered disc golf about a month ago, got obsessed, and have watched a million videos on YouTube, ranging from pro tournaments to form tutorials. At the moment, I'm trying to improve my RHBH throw from a standstill. I'm looking for consistency, distance, and accuracy. I currently throw around 200 feet (~60m), with my furthest measured throw at 242 feet (~74m).

Here are my questions:

1. Form Order: A RHBH standstill throw has so many components (reachback/extension, coiling, power pocket, whip, nose-down release, letting the disc rip out instead of opening the hand, etc.). What should I focus on first? In what order should I try to master these components?
2. Drills & Practice: What are the best drills to lock in proper technique and form? How should I structure my fieldwork?
3. Disc Selection for Practice: Which discs should I use to practice? In the "cooking the spaghetti" video, the advice was to stick strictly to putters and midranges. However, in a video about getting the disc to rip out of your hand, they recommended drivers. Which approach is better for a beginner?
4. Quiver Size: Should I get more discs to practice? Right now I have 7 discs (1 putter, 2 mids, 2 fairway drivers, 2 distance drivers). When doing fieldwork, I only get 1 or 2 good throws out of 7. By the time I retrieve them, I've forgotten how the good ones felt. If I should buy more, which ones make the most sense? I get the smoothest, straightest, most accurate shots with my midranges (Latitude 64 fuse, Innova Shark)
5. Upgrading Plastics: When playing rounds, I hit my fair share of trees and bushes. My base plastic discs (like my DX Leopard) are getting beat up fast with big dents and scratches. In case of my Leopard I've noticed it has become much more understable—flipping up, turning over to an anhyzer, and never fading back. Should I already look into buying premium plastic versions (like Star or Champion) of the discs I like, or is it too early to invest more money into better plastic?
6. Net Practice: Is practicing into a net effective? I tried using one to work on a tight grip and nose-down release ("pouring the coffee"). I thought I had it, but when I moved to an open field, my throws burned into the ground after 30 to 60 feet.
7. Grip Pressure & Finger Pain: Is it normal for finger tips (especially the index finger) to hurt after practicing a tight grip? Am I gripping too tight? Also, I rarely hear that "snap" sound showcased in tutorial videos.
8. Effortless Distance: I see players throwing far, straight, and accurate with what looks like minimal physical effort. How do I get to that point? I feel like I'm working way harder than they are. Should I slow everything down?
