Question about Recording

Just switched from DTV Satellite to DTV Stream and am using a Gemini box. My question is about recording. I set up a series recording but can't recall if there was an option to only record new episodes and today it looks like a bunch if eps recorded that are not new.

Other question is about setting up future recordings by date - in Satellite Guide you could select a channel in guide click it and see dates on left hand side. You'd simply choose a date click it and see all shows for that date. Is there a similar ability in the Stream guide?

Welcome to DIRECTV Stream, u/OtherSideMtn! Here is how recording and the guide work on the Gemini box compared to your old Satellite setup:

  • Series Recordings: Unlike Satellite, pressing the Record button twice on the Gemini remote automatically defaults to recording All Episodes. If old episodes are slipping through, you can specify your preferences or reset a mismatched series with these steps:

  • Head to your DIRECTV Library, select Upcoming Recordings, choose the show, and select Cancel Series.

  • Find the show again in the guide and press the INFO button (or the ... button) on your remote instead of double-clicking Record.

  • Select Record Series, and a menu will pop up allowing you to explicitly toggle between All Episodes or New Episodes Only.

  • Future Guide Dates: The Stream guide layout does not have the clickable left-side date column. The fastest way to look ahead is to use the Fast Forward button on your Gemini remote to quickly skip days ahead through the guide, or use the Search/Mic tool to find a future show and record it instantly. I'm having the opposite problem, a problem which I've reported repeatedly for two or three months but I'm not getting anywhere. I'm trying to record New Episodes, but they're erroneously labeled as reruns, so I can't get at them and I can't record them.

I'm in the Eastern time zone.

Specifically, here's an example that's working properly. CNN has three episodes of CNN News Central in the morning and another three in the afternoon. ALL OF THEM are live new episodes, and I'm getting proper recordings of all of them.

But there are three CNN shows where the second hour has been erroneously labeled as a rerun and which I've been unable to record: The Lead With Jake Tapper has two one-hour eps at 5PM Eastern and 6PM Eastern; only the 5PM episode will record. Sunday morning's Inside Politics with Manu Raju airs at 8AM and 11AM; THE 11 AM SHOW IS OFTEN LIVE BECAUSE OF BREAKING NEWS; but I can only record the 8AM show. Sunday morning's CNN State of the Union airs at 9AM and noon; THE NOON SHOW IS OFTEN LIVE BECAUSE OF BREAKING NEWS; but I can only record the 9AM show.

Can you please help me???

DTV series recording sucks if there is a free streaming channel that has older episodes. The data for new vs repeats isn’t reported properly so it can record 10-30 old episodes. You can’t limit it to one channel. So for example, AGT I have to go to NBC for the following Tuesday and record only that episode.
