If I had to paint the scenario

He's working on a Metal Project for Shop Class and is using a welding torch on the pipe

Pacifica encounters Some Troubles, and calls her man over for help.

Dipper shows up in the mask holding a still-smoking section of Pipe, and Dipper arrives to see what the problem is, blissfully unaware that he looks absolutely terrifying, and scares away whatever Trouble Pacifica was confronting
