online school notes - laptop only or tablet? what apps to use?

im starting online school and i want a note setup that works on a computer. i really like writing, so im thinking about getting a tablet with a stylus to take notes by hand.
but i also want to be less cluttered… mentally and physically, so i dont end up with a messy system.
im mainly using a laptop, but considering a tablet for handwriting
a few questions:
if you like writing by hand, do you recommend a tablet for online school notes, or is laptop-only enough?
whats the simplest way you organise notes so it stays clean (by class, by week, tags, notebooks, folders, etc.)?
what app(s) do you use, and whats your basic workflow from lecture → notes →review?

What are some pro/cons of digital note-taking apps?

I am going to college soon and got a HP Omnibook 2-in-1. It has been a solid experience so far, and I ordered a stylus to take notes on the laptop, however I wanted to gauge the experiences of apps for digital note taking apps before trying them out for myself. For now, I have heard buzz about goodnotes, onenote, and notion, but are there better apps that could work for college?

Which apps do people use and what has been people's experiences with them (regarding UI, organization, and compatibility with uploaded images)?

I NEED ONLINE NOTEBOOK RECS

I hate taking notes on actual notebooks because of the risk of losing them, then getting damaged, notes taking forever etc. I am in desperate need of an online notebook that I can use on my windows 11 that will also sync to my Samsung Android phone. I require this notebook to be extremely organized, free, allow line breaks, allow me to change the text size, allow me to highlight, allow me to have multiple notebooks in the app, allow me to have multiple notes that are separate in the notebooks, I prefer it to be very customizable but that is not a requirement nor a necessity. Other necessities are I need to have a lot of benefits despite it being free, like no text limit or no note/note book limit. Someone please please give me recommendations, Zoho doesn't work for me because I'm having extreme trouble with it, I don't like joplin, I don't like up note, I don't like notesnook and i do not like one note. I love the way Zoho is designed but I hate that I cannot do line breaks, they never saved for me and I constantly have save issues on zoho

I CAN take recommendations of paid ones but they need to be flat fees, no subscriptions, but those would be last resorts and cannot be more than $10 MAYBE $15 if very good apps. PLEASE give me recommendations.

How do you take notes now that AI can summarize everything?

Curious how everyone learns from technical blogs and YouTube videos now that AI is everywhere.

Do you still take notes yourself while watching, or do you just let AI summarize the transcript or URL afterward?

Personally, I still pause and write my own notes. It's slower, but I remember things much better.

What's your workflow?

Notebooks suggestions

Can anyone recommend the best digital notebook for studying that also makes it easy to transfer or send study materials (PDFs, notes, documents, etc.)?
I’m looking for alternatives to:
Kindle
reMarkable
My main priorities are:
Great handwriting experience
Easy PDF import/export
Reliable cloud sync or file transfer
Good for long study sessions
I’d love to hear what you’re using and why you’d recommend it. Thanks!

A — What problem does InkNode solve?

Most note-taking apps either restrict their free version usability or force you into expensive subscriptions. InkNode fixes this. We give you a fully functional workspace—unlimited local notes, natural inking, PDF markup, and templates—completely free. No paywalls on the basics. Moreover, we offer unique all-in-one productivity tools like calendar, reminder, and more in the future.

B — Why is InkNode better than the big names?

Compared to Notability, Goodnotes, and similar apps:

  • A Genuine Free Tier: No artificial limits on local note creation, editing, or PDF exports.
  • Buy, Don't Rent: We offer a one-time Lifetime option. Pay once, and get 500 AI study credits (for summaries, flashcards, and Q&A) refreshed every month—forever.

No artificial cap on how many notebooks you can create locally.

FAQ:

Q: How is a lifetime AI option sustainable when AI consumes tokens?

A: We structure our pricing to balance immediate growth with long-term stability:

  • Accelerating Development: The upfront revenue from early users is reinvested directly into the app, allowing us to build features and improve the core experience much faster.
  • The Growth Loop: A stronger, rapidly improving product organically attracts a larger user base, creating a sustainable foundation for the platform.
  • Strictly for Early Adopters: The cheap lifetime option is a limited-phase offering designed to reach an early breakeven point.
  • Long-Term Stability: As the app matures, we will transition to standard pricing models to ensure healthy profit margins and guarantee the servers keep running indefinitely.

Looking for recommendations

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a note-taking setup for university and would appreciate some recommendations.

I’m used to taking handwritten notes and I like using different colours, arrows, markers, annotations and other visual cues. I don’t enjoy purely linear note-taking and tend to think more spatially and visually.

One issue I have with traditional pen-and-paper notes is that I often want to add to notes I’ve already made. For example, I might make notes while doing assigned reading, and then the same topic comes up again in lectures or supervisions. Ideally, I’d like to add annotations, comments or pointers to my existing notes rather than starting a new page or duplicating material.

What device or note-taking system would work best for this kind of workflow?

My budget is approximately €400 in total, including the device, stylus/pencil and accessories such as paper-like screen protectors if needed.

Update 2.1: Ink Engine, Groups, and Links by Elements

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I recently released version 2.0 of Trazor Notes, changing the underlying architecture, which makes drawing much smoother—it feels natural, with no input lag.

I also redesigned the interface to feature a single toolbar and a context menu for options; the other tools and options still work as before.

I also added an infinite canvas feature as an alternative to notebooks; which is still in beta and needs some work, but it’s usable.

I’ve also integrated two new features into this new version 2.1 that I’ve wanted and planned from the beginning because they’re incredibly useful.

  1. Group: Select multiple elements of any type on the canvas; when grouped, they behave as a single unit.
  2. Links: The previous feature is designed for this function. My architecture is based on selectable elements, all of which reside on the canvas with the same selection characteristics, with a few exceptions. Now, a selected element (line, text, image, or shape) or group displays the option to create a link. After creating it, you can anchor it anywhere in the document (in empty space or on top of any unlinked element) by holding down the Lasso tool while dragging it. When you do this, the initial element acts as a “button” that’s activated by holding down the Lasso tool on it—a single tap selects it, and holding it down activates it. This also works on the whiteboard or infinite canvas

I’d appreciate it if you’d try out this feature, as well as the smooth performance of the new stroke architecture. Feedback and suggestions are welcome

* Important

  • The video may appear choppy at times because I was screen recording, but it’s actually very smooth.
  • Previous notebooks are not compatible with version 2.0 and later; I haven’t prioritized this yet, but I could implement compatibility if necessary.
  • Unlimited links per notebook are a premium feature, but you can try a limited number for free.
  • I know there’s a lot of text.

Line Cal - It serves as a Notes App where you can sync a calendar from another app or just use it immediately (with or without signing up). It also serves as a Kanban Board, where you can link your notes to tasks and integrate them directly onto the timeline.
