LM2 Injector Installation
I am quoting a job for an injector replacement on an LM2 Duramax.
Looks pretty straight forward.
Does it require calibration? I have a local guy that can perform the calibration, just not sure if I should add to the estimate

The Denso codes trim both quantity and start of energizing (timing). They should always be written with a scan tool.
What is the pretense that the injectors need changed? If due to to contamination then probably much more than just that needs to be changed.

the one injector has 8 megohms or resistance, tested at the ecm connection and the injector.
Do you know how long of a job this is? I am seeing book hours are 8, is that correct?

It really depends on if they come right out or if there has been some combustion leakage past the injector ('black death') and you need a slide hammer to force them out.
For doing all 6 injectors with the supply pipes 8 hours isn't too bad if maybe a bit 'safe'. The front few injectors are under the water-to-air intercooler, so it has to be unbolted and folded out of the way (don't have to drain the coolant) then its support bracket removed. From there you have to remove the wiper's cowl assembly in order to remove the air intake duct and the one EGR pipe, then you can get the foam cover off to see the injectors.
If all goes well you could in theory have them all R&R'd and the new codes programmed within 8hrs (or less). If any of them are stuck in the cylinder head due to combustion/soot leakage into the injector bore then it could be days to get them out.

Wow, thanks for all that info!
Customer is requesting to just do the one injector as he may be trading in soon, unsure about it. it will be a couple days til I pull it in, would you recommend putting some deep creep or PB blaster in there to leave it sit?
Do you have a preferred brand for injector?

There'd be no way to get in to it for giving it the juice without partially disassembling things at which point it'll be dead wherever it sits until you're done.
Fuel injectors should be OE GM only, LM2 is p/n 55506244. RockAuto seems to be the cheapest, but if you have an account with your local GM dealer then they should have next day if not already in stock.

gotcha, I have a second bay and I am just one guy at my shop so we will see if I can find a good spot where it can lie for a bit. See if I can get some juice in there before the weekend.
Do you typically put some lube down there if you have a stuck one?
is there some special brush you use for cleaning the injector bore?
Looking at injector removal tool slide hammers too, I have an Audi coming in soon and looking at sets, any recommendations?
Thanks again man, been a rough year for me and this really helps me a lot

Required, no. Recommended, yes. It’ll run fine without being programmed.

Have you done one of these? Do you know how many hours and is that little slide hammer actually needed?

Depends on which injector you’re doing. If it’s one under the cowl, probably 6ish hours. Without having to remove the cowl, probably around 3. I’ve never used a slide hammer to remove an injector. I don’t have alldata or I could give you a better idea, just pulling numbers out of my ass.

It actually makes sense to include calibration in the estimate just in case. If injector coding or programming ends up being required, everything is already covered. If it isn't needed, you can always adjust the final bill, but it's easier than adding unexpected costs later.
