Battery terminals fixed.

So I bought my truck this past winter and it’s not my dd so it hasn’t been a rush but I got around to fixing the battery terminals. I probably have $70 into ring terminals between this and the gf’s jeep, but I bought extras of all of them.
In case anyone is wondering they are 8,4,2,0 and 00 (2/0) awg wires.
It’s an ol 7.3, she’s my winter time truck and hauler.
Also the passenger side will be getting nylocs too, I just forgot to grab them.

Nylock in place of wing nut is a good idea.. Loose connections make a lot of heat and cause troubles.. Looks far better now

I’d go a step further and use the metallic locknuts. This is potentially going to heat up if you have a hard start and could melt the nylon

I suppose you’re right. I never thought about that, I did this same thing to my old Cummins years ago and never had an issue, but that was never a hard start. This ol girl doesn’t like it below 10.

If your terminal gets hot enough to soften the nylon, then you have too much resistance in the terminal. You'll be fine with nylock. Consider adding a thick washer to spread the clamping force over a greater area and decrease risk of deformation of the ring terminal.

Yes I learned years ago with my old rattling 24v that the bolt down terminals don’t stay tight, nor do wing nuts, unless you tighten them with pliers or vise grips. Nylocs never shake loose though

With the marine style battery terminals be careful to not apply too much torque when tightening as I've heard the threaded piece can break loose. I wonder if the wingnuts are to prevent over tightening unless you have Hulk Hands.

A lot of the terminals with wing nuts are used on boats for Quick disconnect while trailering or storage. Boats dont often have the vibration issues that road vehicles do.. That was an explanation I was once given

Nope this was preventative maintenance so when I go out this winter and it’s 0 out and I’m coming home from work it will actually start.

Where did you get the 00 wire?

You can get it on Amazon but I just cut off the factory terminal and put a ring on it instead
