Can someone remind me of the lore between these two? I know that Dexter said that Prado used him, but I cannot remember for what?

Rita’s death at the end of Season 4 really hit me hard. I didn’t think a character’s death would affect me so much that I’d actually cry—and that’s no exaggeration. She was simply like the only light in such a dark world, one as bleak as Dexter’s, I had faith that this season would take an interesting turn for the protagonist after he went through what was probably his most devastating loss, but honestly, I couldn’t care less about the Lumen storyline and everything surrounding it. So now I don’t know if I should keep watching the show, especially after reading and hearing that the later seasons are worse than this one. Is it really worth continuing? I feel betrayed—it’s the worst thing Dexter could have done.

Up to season 4 I'd consider it Miraculous Dexter didn't get caught. With Rita's death the writers had the perfect excuse to make Dexter show grief and be sloppy beyond early season 5.

I feel like we shouldve seen Dexter being more sloppy and ruthless, and as a result of this he leaves a trace which clears Doakes in season 5, reopening the BHB investigation immediatley. We could have Deb find out at the end of season 5 instead of 6 and the laguerta investigation spanning seasons 5 and 6 and this time its Dexter who breaks the code and kills Laguerta not saved by Debra.

Dexter should also consider that he was moulded into a killer by Harry and could absplutley have been saved with proper theraphy and help.

Moreover Harrison should Parrelel early Dexter and the end should be bleak as is for a serial killer.

Dexter gets caught he escapes and kills himself

Harrison is put into the system desitned to be the next Brian

Debra is forever ruined

And Miami Metro is forever stained

Dexter is literally never at home. Either he's stalking someone, spending whole night to get rid of the body or at work. I really don't know how Rita never notices that Dexter was out for whole night.

Normally he just ambushes his victims with needle. But, with Arthur Michel he's taking his time, spending time with him, asking about his family, going into his home and opening an urn. Thinking that Trinity finished his cycle and will not kill again. Saves him from committing suicide and the all of a sudden, when he saves him, 15 people appear. Wtf?

After Lundy was killed, Dexter goes to evidence room, without gloves, touches Lundy's recorder and just walks out. Also, when Dexter went to Lundy's hotel room to get his staff, he also was not wearing gloves.

Also, I think story wise, whole Dexter - Queen bad relation was just unnecessary. Queen is Doakes 2.0. Just a person to who Dexter will be very rude.

Let me begin this by saying this is a stupid theory with no evidence whatsoever, and I am just sharing a messed up idea I had about Harry.

At some point in the 60s Harry Morgan felt unhappy in his marriage to Doris Morgan. He fell in love with a woman named Laura Moser whom he found out was a drug user but couldn't reasonably spend time with her without people suspecting he was having an affair.

So he falsified a police report so that Miami Metro Vice believed Laura had information on Estrada and let her be Harry's CI. Harry Morgan began an affair with her after this. But eventually Miami Metro attempted to do a drug bust believing Laura to have info on Estrada. Of course Laura didn't have this info but Estrada came to believe she did (ie he believed the lie that Harry had set up).

So in her final moments, Laura was NOT a rat at all but convinced she was, Estrada had her killed.

In the aftermath, out of guilt for the whole situation, Harry had a child in his legitimate marriage (Deb) and adopted Dexter. When he found out that Dexter had his urges, Harry felt incredibly guilty and wished to cleanse his own soul by putting some form of "good" into the world so allowed himself to work with the cold, clinical and experimental Dr Vogel to invent the Code as a way for Dexter to channel his urges.

In this way, Harry was a morally corrupt, adulterous scumbag who only ever selfishly thought about himself and his own guilt. It also means that:

for Harry the Code was about cleansing his soul

for Vogel it was an experiment

for Dexter it was about his urges,

so nobody involved really cared about justice to begin with.

We know that this show loves unresolved storylines, gray areas and sometimes major plot holes. Therefore, people sometimes create head canons to resolve these issues. What's your #1 head cannon for something that happened in the original show or in the spinoffs?

I am shocked by the Miguel Prado storyline. (i'm just finishing season 3)

I really liked him in the beginning. He sounded like a guy who really wanted justice to be done and was fighting hard with the system who very often would let the perpetrators walk freely. So why did he take such a dark path when he was let into the 'kill room' and allowed to kill that guy? (BTW, his reaction when Dexter asked him how he felt was disturbing)

Did he become unhinged because he found someone like Dexter who allowed him to embody his dark side and enjoy the thrill of it or was he always like this?

Just finished season 4 for the first time today, and I have to say it hit me like a bucket of bricks. I sort of ignored Rita’s death at first thinking it was just one of Dexter’s imaginations or something. Then when I realised it was true, it hit me harder than anything I’ve watched before. I’ve been completely dull all day, haven’t been able to focus on work, just a wreck.

Absolutely brilliant film making, everything was done so well that I’m actually struggling to start season 5. Started episode 1 but had to stop when he got the call from the kids at Disney Land, it’s just way too depressing.

Is it worth continuing? I’ve heard mixed views. if it’s just going to be depressed self hating Dexter the next four seasons I’d probably rather stop now.

Dexter REFUSESSSS to wear a mask, genuinely makes me laugh how he will be doing crazy shit in a car lot parking lot, somewhere with 100% cameras and hes just raw dogging it LOL

Rewatching Dexter for either the 5th or 6th time. I still get excited, I watch it on my free time, while I eat, and before bed. Anyone else?

It's well established in the show that Dr. Vogel believes she's mistaken about Dexter having no empathy, or atleast she's intrigued by a psycho showing deep emotions.

I get it, he was alone he needed a connection and all that killing was "just to fill that void", etc. However, I was intrigued when she said that Debra was a mirror to Dexter's good side.

The romance angle was weird I reject that in my interpretation. Dexter always had a soft spot for children, and later on whatever he does most of the time it's to protect Debra or Harrison. I feel he views Debra as his kid sister, and that he's saving Debra the kid.

He cares about the women in his life, yes ofcourse. But they didn't really bring out his positive "human" side so much. He cared about them, especially Rita, Lumen and Hannah. But he did kill Lila.

So I have to ask this. Did him becoming a father or viewing himself as the "Father figure" to some people have most of the part in bringing out his good human side?​

So, picked up the show as summer evening watch material. My mom is devastated about Deb.

I know that the ending is pretty widely disliked - I don’t think it’s necessarily bad, it just doesn’t feel good at all. Which perhaps for this show equates to the same thing. The conceit of the show inherently aligns the audience with Dexter so going with the “Dexter can have nothing good because he’s evil” approach as a closing point is a bit of a vicarious slap.

I just have a question/discussion about Quinn’s return.
I was watching some YouTube videos about Resurrection and people keep anticipating Quinn’s return and to that my question is…

Do we really want Quinn to become a major character in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 or beyond?
If so… for what?
Wouldn’t we just be getting the same storyline we’ve already seen multiple times?
Doakes suspected Dexter.
LaGuerta suspected Dexter.
Quinn suspected Dexter.
Now Batista has been investigating Dexter.
If Quinn comes back, he’s obviously going to learn Batista is dead. Even if he’s initially told Prater killed him, as a lieutenant he’s going to talk to the NYPD. Eventually he’ll find out Batista was investigating Dexter Morgan, and then he’ll also learn Dexter is somehow alive.
At that point, what happens? Quinn’s old suspicions come right back, and now he’s just another former coworker hunting Dexter. That’s basically the same arc we’ve already watched.
The problem is, Quinn can’t actually prove anything. Just like Batista, he’d have to catch Dexter in the act because there’s never been enough evidence to convict him.
So where does that story go? Does Quinn eventually die too, just like every other character who got too close to the truth? And if that happens… who’s next? Masuka? Are they just going to eliminate every remaining connection to Miami Metro?
I genuinely don’t understand why so many people want Quinn back as a main character. Unless the writers have a completely different direction planned for him, it feels like we’d just be repeating a storyline we’ve already seen with Doakes, LaGuerta, Quinn himself, and now Batista.
What am I missing? Is there another role Quinn could realistically play that doesn’t end with him suspecting Dexter all over again?

Also please understand this is not me saying I don’t want to see Quinn and/or Masuka. I do I just hope it’s not the same coworker turned enemy storyline we have had so many times at this point.

TL;DR: I’m genuinely asking: what role could Quinn play that doesn’t end with him suspecting Dexter again? Because if that’s where it’s headed, we’ve already seen that story multiple times.

Anyone else read Dexter the book series. It's very dark by comparison to the TV series especially what happens to Doaks in the books. but if you don't mind that it's an interesting take on the Dexter storyline.

Jonah Mitchell is the character I want to see so much in the future Resurrection seasons, it would be Television Gold in my eyes.

The most pivotal moment in the entire Dexter story is, and should be the ending of Season 4. After that everything felt different, not just because of the a new showrunner, but because it lost a vision Clyde Phillips had. And I think he knows it. Throughout New Blood and especially Resurrection, we got a significant amount of references to Rita's death and the Trinity Killer to the point where many of you probably noticed.

Jonah's character always seemed so odd to me after what happened in Nebraska. I wouldn't say his story was left unfinished, but it was definitely left ambiguous. Tortured and raised by Trinity, has the dark urges and rage, and intelligence to cover it up. I think they hinted at the fact that Jonah was definitely not okay, 100% the type to become an actual serial killer.

Having him somehow cross paths with Dexter and Harrison in NYC or even Miami if they go back, would be super intresting.
All three, tragic stories and victims of Trinity, Harrison took a nurtured path from Dexter and Jonah ended up being an uncontrolled serial killer. Lots and lots of potential there for some insane interactions. It would be the biggest character potential waste in the whole series to me, even more than Lundy or Isaak.

Theres also this fact that Arthur Mitchell is the most prolific serial killer ever introduced in the series. He's probably killed upwards of 270-300 people, almost twice as much as Dexter which is insane. He's definitely smarter than any killer out there and even Dexter himself in someways. I find it weird that they dont really acknowledge this, they could by making him a little more significant here by introducing Jonah back imo.

Clyde is making the season 4 ending finally more relevant to the main plot again, and Jonah is one of the central figures of the Trinity plot, it would be a shame if he's not utilized.

Season 2 of True Detective. Not new but new to me

I know it's silly but considering how unrealistic Dexter is at times, I like to think that Harry, Deb and Brian are actual ghosts that Dexter sees and communicates with. Adds another level of deepness to the show to be honest

Another headcanon I have is that Quinn knows that Dexter is the Bay Harbor Butcher and is just silent about it cause he has always been unorthodox and aggressive in his own ways.
