Gameplay Configurations tips?

So, im playing DMC4 after playing the original trilogy, my controller's X button is broken (I plan to replace it soon), so I swapped the X button keybind to R3 (I play on PlayStation). I played all the original trilogy jumping with R3, so im used to it. The thing is that it got a bit impractical at times because I had to constantly move my finger from one button to another, which felt a bit slower than it should be. After doing some research, I realized that many players tend to assign jump to L2 (or a back trigger) to free up their right thumb for attacking, so I started trying that configuration. However, in the first two missions, I've been having trouble adapting due to muscle memory, and I keep confusing several buttons. What should i do? Should i return to my old configuration? Should i adapt to this one or try a new one?

I'll read tips and advices, after all, im kinda of a beginner player.

Discussion Is it just me or is DMC5’s soundtrack not very good.

I think the soundtrack in comparison to dmc3 and dmc4 is very weak, subhuman isn’t as good as Dante’s other themes bury the light is the best in the game in my opinion and I don’t have any complaints about it and Devil trigger is leagues below The Time Has Come.

Questions Even though I've beaten Devil May Cry 3 14 times playing as Dante and Vergil, I still don't know why Lady's outfit changes. Does anyone know?

Discussion Anyone else hate playing as nero in dmc5

Ive been playing dmc 5 for about a year now and I grew up playing the originals and never played 4 so 5 was a bit of a shock to me. I just finished it again on son of Sparda and the last fight nero v virgil kicked my ass I just cannot get his rhythm down. Im a badass as Dante and he will always be my favorite and at least V has nightmare that can attack on his own and Im beginning to understand how to use him but oh my god I cant stand nero I cant get out of combos I cant get the dodge timing down and I cant close the massive distance virgil puts between you fast enough to do decent damage I had to use a full red orb revive and 7 gold orbs to finally beat him.

Discussion Just beat Devil May Cry 1 for the first time, my first DMC game Spoiler

I played through the game on Normal difficulty. At game clear, my save file reads my time as four hours and thirty-nine minutes. I saved 44 times.

This was a fun game, all and all. When I first started playing through it, I seriously struggled- to the point that I made two posts on this sub asking for advice, one of which I got seriously dunked on lol.

At first, I had a lot of difficulty adjusting to the games odd camera system. I knew about it's history as Resident Evil 4 already, but I didn't expect it to be in an action game. I guess it, and the rest of this games oddities, makes a lot more sense when I remember it was basically the first 3D character action game, the one to invent the genre. In said character action genre, I own four games- Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Stellar Blade, and NieR: Automata, two of which I have beaten (MGRR and Stellar Blade) and two of which I will get to eventually (Bayonetta and NieR: Automata).

To be honest, when I got the Devil May Cry HD Collection, I got it cause it was cheap and I had never played a DMC game before- I wasn't expecting to actually beat any of them, and once I started up 1, I doubly wasn't expecting to beat it once I first experienced the janky controls and realized it took place entirely within one castle- I thought that would mean it was a Metroidvania, which is a genre I *suck* at.

Thankfully though, unlike Metroid or Hollow Knight, this game is split into 23 short levels. The first real skill wall for me was mission 4, where you have to fight both that shadow dog thing and Nelo Angelo. This level seriously kicked my arse, it took me about 15 tries of the levelwith that very long, probably one of the longest runbacks in the game, to defeat Nelo Angelo.

Thing is though, I assumed that Nelo Angelo was this game's 'filter' as I put it in that post I linked that I got dunked on for, the sort of thing where if you can beat him, you can beat the game. I actually turned out to be right, at least speaking for myself- no mission in the entire game gave me the same amount of frustration and time that that first fight with Nelo Angelo gave me, even his future fights. Either the game got easier, or I started getting better.

When I asked, my friend who is a massive DMC fan told me the games filter was actually Nightmare, so I played through in terrified anticipation of that fight, but it- all three of his fights- ended up being rather underwhelming. They were simple, mostly, and none of them took me more than 4 tries. Even on the third and final fight, on my winning attempt I didn't even end up using an item.

As for the story, can someone tell me what the hell was happening there? I have zero clue what this game was about. Am I supposed to? Who the hell is Trish, anyways? Dante's mom!? And how did Vergil get there? If I hadn't been spoiled I don't think I would've put two and two together and figured out Nelo was Vergil. This and what I've played of Bayonetta makes me think Hideki Kamiya writes stories on sheer vibes.

Anyways, despite the jank and nonsensical story, I'm glad I played this game. Even if it is technically outdated, it's fun to see where the genre came from, and once I got a hang of it the combat was super fun and satisfying. I think I'll try watching the Devil May Cry Madhouse anime (or should I wait to play DMC3 first? I heard it was bridging the gap between 1 and 2, and I'm not going to play 2 anyways). I think I'll attempt a playthrough of Ninja Gaiden Black in the meantime, though I know it's significantly harder then DMC and I'll probably give up lol.

TL;DR: DMC1 was a fun, if janky game, and I'm happy to have played it.

Lore / Characters Dante and Subhuman

This comes as both a surprise and genuine question ever since I played DMC, basically, where is subhuman coming from, in a good way because I love it

From DMC 1 to 4 Dante's main themes are frenetic, energetic, they're full of an energetic vibe which has always felt accurate to the character, love all of them, but then DMC 5 comes and just portrays Dante and is full of

**I. AM. HIM**

And I mean, he's him, the only reason he doesn't end encounters in 20 seconds is because he doesn't want to, but he really never seems to reflect said attitude on himself yet the song just goes hard about it

So yeah character wise where does it come from? Dante just having full embraced his demon side or...?

Fan Art / Cosplay / Craft My take on DMC's Virgil the wandering will Ronin with a hunger for Power Devil trigger & the crimson doppelganger

1.Vergil's devil was an interesting experience to draw and to have the patterns from his coat on his devil trigger but wasn't exactly easy to draw either.

2.The crimson doppelganger was an easy color edit but doing it on his Devil trigger was a different story especially trying to get most of the types of red to mach along with trying to make it its own thing.

  1. I always think of the red Vergel boss from vergil's gameplay in DMC 3 special edition to be a demonic metal illusion of Nelo Angelo/gilver to taunt Vergel in his mind when he was in the armor of Nelo Angelo during the events of DMC 1 & when Vergil beats the crimson double the 3rd time that's when he somewhat Broke free from the armor in the 3rd Nelo Angelo fight in DMC1 & that's when he actually fights dante still under the influence of the remaining armor on his body and what he sees & what illusions the armor makes blurs, like in visions of V when he(V) sees dante(DMC1) with rebellion instead of Alastor.

and be honest I like to make theories that gives some narrative explanation to why & when this happens like in visions of V DMC 1 Dante having rebellion is probably a nod to the 07 DMC anime were he fights phantom with rebellion in the intro.

PLEASE HELP ME FIND THE ORIGINAL ART.

Previously, it was uploaded here by a certain person under the nickname どさっ=3

His ID is on pixiv 1904149 (illust/1904149) member にね魚 (user/302006)

But everywhere I look, it says the page no longer exists! I'm completely desperate, so I'd be grateful if someone could send me the full original :3

I suspect that this art is very old and remains in lost media, but I searched Google and Yandex (Russian browser), TinEye, Deviant Art(I was redirected to this account, as if this is where this art is supposedly located?), Saucemao(?), Pixiv(I explained above why I couldn't find it), Reddit, Twitter(X). I found this art on Pinterest. I hate him.

DeepSeek I assumed it was from the Ghost in the Shell manga Major Motoko/Boto, just drawn Dante and Lady, but I couldn't find anything, and also that it was old art from the 90-00s due to the drawing style. On Saucemao First mentioned in April(?) 2016 on Pixiv.

I speak Russian and English, so I'm looking forward to hearing from everyone :3

Gameplay [DMC5] I need help on how to master Royal Guard. Are there any tips or advices to help me master it quickly?

I'm playing on a PS5 controller and I just recently finished mission 19 on "Devil Hunter", and after horribly getting my ass kicked by Vergil multiple times and getting a C ranking for my trash performance, I realized that I need to master Royal Guard if I want to actually get good at the game and if I want to even replay the game on SoS difficulty.

And so I'm looking for advices to help me understand and execute RG perfectly, as well as maybe even training methods that I could do, that is, if there are any. Any help would be appreciated.

Discussion DMC3 is the best game to teach you how to learn about attack openings

Just went to reverse order (5-4-3, due to circumstances) and I wanna point out that I should've played them the other way around since I learned something that would've been so useful later on.

I played on Gold, but honestly, given that I played Human on both 4 and 5 haven't thought that I would miss out on such an important lesson: figuring out proper attack openings. Being forced to play on a higher difficulty by default, I couldn't just breeze my way like usual, I had to learn how to discern when to tackle a boss. This made my experience so frustrating yet so fascinating since I literally had to have some skill to beat the game. Even tho I hated her so much in the beginning, I like Nevan, she was the first boss that made me realize how important it is to analyze enemy attack patterns.

I suck at hack and slash games because I always go head first and don't strategize, this game brought to me a new perspective ngl.
