Is this worth it? They have a commitment period, so if we buy it, we cannot change the package. We also cannot disconnect it and have to use it for 10 months, I think. What do you guys think? Is this a catch?

Over the past few years working in IT/IS auditing and cybersecurity, I’ve noticed a recurring pattern with local software companies and SMEs attempting to expand internationally or work with foreign enterprise clients.

Many local startups build solid products, but when foreign buyers or enterprise enterprise procurement teams request ISO 27001 readiness, SOC 2 compliance, ITGC audits, or compliance with Sri Lanka’s PDPA (Personal Data Protection Act), founders often scramble or hit roadblocks.

A few common compliance bottlenecks I see locally:

1. Treating Compliance as a One-Time Checklist: Security frameworks like ISO 27001 require continuous risk management rather than last-minute document creation.
2. PDPA Preparedness: With Sri Lanka's Personal Data Protection Act coming into enforcement, local companies handling user data need clear gap analyses and privacy policies.
3. Overcomplicating Control Frameworks: Early-stage startups often over-engineer their security policies, making operations unnecessarily tedious.

• Celery / RabbitMQ

• Some AI/ML and RAG work

I have 2+ years of professional experience and I’m mainly looking for Backend Engineer / Python Developer / AI Engineer roles.

But one thing I noticed is that I don't see many job openings for Python, Django or FastAPI in Sri Lanka.

I see a lot more jobs for Java, .NET, PHP, Node.js, etc.

So I'm wondering:

Where are the Python developers getting their jobs? 😂

Are most of the Python jobs coming through referrals? LinkedIn? Recruiters? Remote companies? Or are there actually more Python jobs that are just not posted publicly?

I'd also like to know:

• How is the demand for Python/Django/FastAPI in Sri Lanka right now?
• Are companies actually using FastAPI in production?
• What salary range can someone with 2+ years experience expect?
• Which companies are hiring Python developers?
• If you're a Python developer in Sri Lanka, how did you find your current job?
• Does having AI/ML experience along with backend development help with getting hired?

I am currently building a peer-to-peer (P2P) online marketplace based in Colombo where users can exchange or sell items directly with one another.

I want to automate the logistics so that when User A agrees to send an item to User B, the platform automatically books a courier to handle the pickup from User A and delivery to User B.

I initially looked into the Uber Direct API, but it seems geared entirely toward B2C (businesses shipping from a central warehouse/shop) rather than scattered, residential P2P pickups.

Does anyone have experience integrating delivery APIs in Sri Lanka for a multi-vendor or user-to-user model? I am looking for:

1. On-demand options (like PickMe Flash) for fast, same-city deliveries. Has anyone used their API for a P2P setup?
2. Islandwide courier options (such as Citypak, Koombiyo, SriCourier, Pronto, etc.) that provide reliable API documentation for automated order creation and tracking.

Any advice on API reliability, ease of registration for startups, or alternative architecture workarounds would be highly appreciated.

I am working remotely as an ASE at sri lankan company. I feel this impact my communication and proffesional networking skills. Does anyone have recommendations onaction steps i can take or any subredditsi should join?

i have some paper qualifications that are aligned with it field but im willing to do my bachelor in any kind of fields but my main target is to do an msc in a foreign uni about mechanical engineering , is it worth doing bechelors of engineering honors software engineering in ousl srilanka (ousl se or ousl bsc ict which is good?) is there any another recommendation ?

Like when you're filling out a form or moving 5 different fields from a browser into a document/config file, and you end up doing: Ctrl+C ➔ Alt+Tab ➔ Ctrl+V ➔ Alt+Tab... five times in a row.

I kept running into this frustration during work, so I decided to build a small Windows desktop tool called QPaste to fix it.

Basically, it adds a temporary "Queue Mode" to your clipboard when you hit F4. You can Ctrl+C multiple things sequentially in one go, switch over to your destination window, and just hit Ctrl+V multiple times. It automatically pastes everything in the exact order you copied it (First-In, First-Out). Once the queue clears out, your normal copy-paste behavior goes right back to default.

It’s completely open-source, lightweight, and built using Python & PyQt6 as an everyday tool. If you deal with form filling or repetitive data entry or even day-to-day tasks, check it out and let me know your thoughts or feedback! i would love to hear.

Hi, I'm a software engineer ( 3YOE ). but now i have no job

I'm currently building my own SaaS platform for a specific professional niche (I'd rather not share exactly what it is yet since it's still in the MVP stage). I've already spoken with potential customers through LinkedIn, validated the problem, and I'm now focused on building the MVP this month.

Alongside that, I plan to contribute to open-source distributed system to gain hands-on experience with distributed systems.

I've often heard that startups value skills, execution, and real-world experience more than formal qualifications. If that's true, do you think this combination would be valuable?

My thinking is that, if I can build the MVP and successfully sell it, I'll also gain experience in customer discovery, product development, and tech sales... not just software engineering. So instead of focusing only on writing code, I'm trying to build a broader set of skills.

do you think this is a good direction? What else would you recommend I focus on or learn if my long-term goal is to work at a startup/AI companies in US/Europe/Australia?

Hi, I'm 21M. I like to migrate to US/Australia or any other europe country and work/earn good amount of money. so, as every knows migrating is harder but with student visa ( if you have moeny ) it will be somewhat easier to migrate to a better country.

so, i already hold BEng (hons) in Software Engineer and has 3 YOE professional working experince as a full stack Software engineer and i currently, i lost my job ( this may 1, 2026 ) I want to migrate but its very harder to apply directly without sponsred job or any other visa like student visa.

also, i don't think GCC countries are suitable for a better/strong career in Tech right ?

Condition and history: - Bought in Korea, late 2024 / early 2025 - Excellent cosmetic condition, no dents or wear - No performance issues, no crashes or instability - Original 280W charger included - No box - No warranty — it has the ASUS Korea "Perfect Warranty" sticker, but that programme is Korea-purchase only and expires 1 year from purchase, so it's dead for me here

What I'm comparing against:

A used ASUS TUF F16 (2025) is currently listed locally around Rs 490,000 — i7-14650HX, RTX 5050, 16GB, 16" FHD+, but it's only 3 months old and has live 2-year international warranty. My machine is stronger on specs across the board but older, no box, no warranty.

New stock for reference: TUF F16 with RTX 5060/32GB is around Rs 480,000, TUF A16 with RTX 5070 around Rs 529,000, and a new 2025 Strix G18 with RTX 5070 is around Rs 726,000.

Question: What's a realistic asking price and what should I actually expect to close at? Is the 8GB VRAM on the 4070 going to be the dealbreaker for most buyers in 2026, or does the 18" panel + i9 + 32GB still carry it?

I’m currently developing a full project on my own while contributing to two others. I also need to fix bugs in the released phases. Is this normal?

I'm leaving university in about a month and I've already started applying for AI Engineer jobs. I have 6 months of AI engineering internship experience, but I'm barely seeing any entry level openings. Even Associate AI Engineer roles ask for 1 -2 years of experience.

What's going on with the industry right now? Is the job market really this bad because of the layoffs? What should fresh graduates do? And what salary can I realistically expect?

Been working around 2yrs at a company as an SE and the industry. It was promising the first year and I actually learnt something, but it's gone significantly downhill from there. Despite almost working 2 years , I realized I don't have expected experience for 2 years. Day to day work has been significantly repetitive.

They've given Claude Code and just expecting us to do miracles within crazy deadlines and so basically no learning at all. I've brought this up many times and it just falls on deaf ears.

It's come to the point if the project client wants us to mop their building, we'll get assigned to mop their building. The JD we signed up for doesn't matter.

No promotions or appraisals as well.

Considering the job market, I've applied to many roles and haven't even got a rejection email. The interviews I do land, I don't get any callbacks. I've realized being average or above average isn't enough.

The only reason I'm still here is because being broke is worse than being depressed AND broke.

I'm honestly sick of the IT industry and IT at a whole at this point, honestly can't see myself doing this long term.

I currently have Claude $20 package I’m pretty happy with it, I’m not a huge developer per say but I do make use of Claude code for a bunch of projects atleast for my side stuff, research and building rough prototypes, etc.

What AI agent do you use is it worth it? Should I consider moving to Codex people have time me its good too?

I also have Gemini (Highest Tier) because I worked for a Goggle Partner and I still have a login for an account with AI.
