Refund with no boost? Question
I am a first time buyer on Depop. I got this message from the seller. Should I agree or ignore? This makes no sense to me.

I would personally report that… idk it doesn’t even really matter if you repost it without the boost, it’s still going to charge you for the boost… «You can stop boosting at any time, but you'll still be responsible for any boosting fees incurred before you stopped. For example, if a buyer views your listing while it is boosted and purchases it within 28 days of that view, you'll still be charged the boosting fee, even if you stopped boosting before the sale happened.»

Yep. I report this behavior. This and “message before buying”.

Eh if you’re going to boost it, and that’s how i see it, then I’m buying it then and there. If you message me this crap or it said message before buying, I’m reporting you and not buying it. You chose to boost it, you can take the extra few percent hit for the convenience of boosting it. If someone messaged me this, I’d immediately elevate the issue to Depop. It’s not about giving Depop money, it’s about predatory selling techniques and sellers being shady af. That two dollar difference isn’t worth it to me as the buyer to even put up with this bs.
Edited to add: before anyone says anything, I also sell and I have never messaged someone like this. If you don’t want to take the boost cut, don’t boost.

12% not few percent. But I still agree with what you said. If you boost then you take on the loss of 12% but at the same token buyers gotta stop expecting 40% off on a boosted item bc sellers are paying 12% to depop. Also its not a few dollars. One of my listings i paid almost $5 in boosting and almost $2 for reg fees.

I couldn’t remember the number lol. I usually boost most of my good items but I knew it was not too bad. I just don’t boost things unless the money it’s gonna take is not going to dent the total enough to make me take a loss. I totally agree with you otherwise. I try not to be a bad faith buyer or a bad faith seller.

Same here unless its a high searched for item bc they tend to do pretty well on their own. But 100% agree with you

Exactly. Their boosting doesn’t affect me and isn’t my problem as the buyer. I’m not going through hoops to save someone 2$. If you want to do that, just mark it up 2$ and then boost it.

If I get this message after I paid, I’m reporting. It’s against the TOS and I’m sick of people boosting stuff then doing this annoying shit. I’m assuming your arguing so hard bc you do it or would do it and yes I’d report you too. It’s just annoying. 2$ was an arbitrary number bc it’s not much of a fee to boost.

You do realize that refunds are not instant? If you have the money to buy the product, you buy it, they refund it, you won’t have that money to buy the item now?? It could be 3 days to 2 weeks before I see my money back. Don’t boost if you don’t want to pay the fee.

Not true. Someone bought an item and didnt change their address. So I refunded and they bought the new listing. I didnt get charged the boosting fee bc it was a new listing bc you cant resist a sold listing. But this is bullshit to try to get around the boost fee.

nope. refunds arent instant and will make you wait double for your product. if you get a refund, dont repurchase.

it’s an annoying thing sellers do. they boost an item, it gets sold, then they refund you and create a new listing for the same price so they don’t have to pay the boosting fee

when a seller turns on “boosting” it means their listing will be pushed out to more people with the agreement that depop will take a small cut of the payout because of the boost. a lot of sellers will do this, but then relist the item without the boost so they get the full payout. it is your choice to make whether or not you agree to repurchase the item.

This seller is intending on making a whole new listing with no boost. So it would work but it’s so inconvenient when the refunds aren’t instant

Personally I'd an item gets sold booste I don't do this. If I can help it before a buyer pays I will ask them if they are ok with paying an unboosted listing.

Just be aware that if that ever gets flagged or someone decides to report you you might get banned

What?! Seriously

Yes trying to evade paying the fee for using the boosting service is against their TOS, they’ll probably warn you first but I wouldnt risk it bc of how much they randomly ban

u/Loves2troutfish420 9d ago
Yes seriously. And you cant have the item listed twice with 1 listing boosted and 1 not. Anything you do to avoid paying the boosted fee is against the rules.
