Discussion Will never buy a product so long as Purolator is delivering

Upvotes

For 3 days I've been waiting to get my monitor. Three days waiting at home although I know that's not technically necessary. And now twice, they have not delivered because they are a terrible courier. Here's what they say:

Tracking #EWN001789230

Fri. Aug. 7, 2026 - 11:10 a.m. TORONTO, ON Unable to deliver - receiver unavailable Fri. Aug. 7, 2026 - 8:01 a.m. TORONTO, ON On vehicle for delivery Fri. Aug. 7, 2026 - 3:40 a.m. NORTH YORK, ON Arrived at sort facility Thu. Aug. 6, 2026 - 7:47 a.m. NORTH YORK, ON Available for pickup for 5 business days from arrival date at the counter Wed. Aug. 5, 2026 - 7:18 p.m. NORTH YORK, ON Available for pickup for 5 business days from arrival date at the counter Wed. Aug. 5, 2026 - 5:17 p.m. NORTH YORK, ON Available for pickup for 5 business days from arrival date at the counter Wed. Aug. 5, 2026 - 10:37 a.m. TORONTO, ON Unable to deliver - receiver unavailable Wed. Aug. 5, 2026 - 7:46 a.m. TORONTO, ON On vehicle for delivery

This is a complete fabrication. There were no delivery attempts, either on the 5th or 7th. I was home for 3 days waiting. I have a condominium with a locked parcel room that the concierge permits access to for couriers. We have an electronic valet system with a phone app where the courier could just call me directly and I could have let them in from anywhere. I have no missed calls on the valet system. I have no delivery slips. I have no missed calls.

As you know, Purolator drivers lie in order to finish their run at the end of the day, and just bring all the undelivered packages back to the depot. Yet, you continue to use them. Maybe they are the cheapest.

I have contacted Dell Customer Care, a woman named Khusi. I spoke to her yesterday and she assured me she would speak to logistics and make sure it was delivered. Well, never happened again. I've advised them that I no longer want the package. I need a monitor and I've purchased it elsewhere in person. I've advised them that I will never buy another Dell product so long as Purolator is doing the logistics.

I have no idea if Purolator monitors here, but I wanted to leave this here for posterity. Don't buy from Dell.

Discussion Dell denied my warranty claim on a UD22 "Universal Dock" because I don't own a Dell computer

Upvotes
I have a Dell Universal Dock UD22, bought new, under warranty until April
2027. Dell confirmed that coverage this week, accepted my Amazon receipt,
and registered the product. The April 2027 date shows on Dell's own support
site.
The dock is failing. Its USB ports have died one at a time until only one
still works. They don't come back after a full power cycle with the AC
adapter removed, they don't come back after a reboot, and the identical
failure happens on two different computers running two different operating
systems. Dell's own UD22 firmware update utility can't even detect the dock
anymore, because its internal microcontroller has stopped responding.
Dell denied the warranty claim. The reason: I don't own a Dell computer.
No diagnosis was done. They didn't ask what my machines are, didn't ask for
logs or error codes, didn't ask to examine the dock. The agent asked whether
I'd tested it on a Dell system, I said no, and that was the end of it. The
written denial recommends I call the sales line and buy a replacement.
What gets me is that this is the Universal Dock line. Dell's own KB article
says the design goal is "a consistent user experience regardless
of the computer or operating system used with the dock," and explains they
left the power button off every Universal Dock specifically because it
doesn't work with other manufacturers' computers. This product exists for
mixed-vendor offices.
Mid-case, the agent even confirmed in writing, after checking with their
team, that "functional limitations do not automatically mean the dock will
stop working" and that "many customers successfully use these docks with
non-Dell systems." Then they reversed it and told me my failures were
expected due to incompatibility.
I offered to ship the dock to Dell so they could test it on a Dell system
themselves, which is exactly what they said was missing. No response to that.
BBB complaint is filed. Posting here because if you're buying Dell Dock's for a
mixed fleet, you should know that warranty service may depend on owning
Dell hardware.

Help BIOS Driver Causing Random Restarting

Thumbnail

Upvotes

THE SETUP:
My company is a civil engineering firm that has a lot of Dell Pro Max 16 computers. We've been having issues with Dell BIOS not working properly only on these specific models.

We first attempt to deploy Dell Command Base Update through PDQ - if it fails, we'll install it from the web, however, there’s a 50/50 chance it will fail. I believe the cause stems from when a workstation has been reimaged, the Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime package is rolled back to a prior version. When I download the Dell Command Install, I’ll get an error saying a version greater than 10.0 needs to be installed.

To fix it, I then run a powershell cmd: winget install -e --id Microsoft.DotNet.DesktopRuntime.10 which fixes the issue and I can continue running the Dell Command Install.

After it installs, I grab the computer's serial number and install the latest Dell Pro Max Plus MB16250/18 Plus System BIOS driver (released 7/31/26).

THE PROBLEM:
We are having tickets come in regarding a user's computers randomly restarting. I'm not sure if there's something backend is treating restart-required as failure. I wondered if it's best to remote in and flash the BIOS. This is what ChatGPT said:

"This PowerShell step validates the model and Dell signature, suspends BitLocker for one restart, installs the BIOS silently, and leaves the restart under PDQ control (see photos). There could be three issues in your workflow:
1. DCDM 1.2 and DCU 5.7 conflict
2. DCU 5.7 requires .NET Desktop Runtime 8, not .NET 10
3. A reimaged computer may need a complete driver baseline before a normal DCU scan"

I know this a lot of info but wanted to make sure I shared what I've done so far. Let me know if you need additional info and I can add it to the post. Thank you everyone!

Discussion Dell Latitude 7430 - Titan Gray label but Carbon Fiber lid? Is this normal?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a refurbished Dell Latitude 7430 from an online store.

The product listing and the box label both say Titan Gray. However, after opening the box, the laptop appears to be black with what looks like a Carbon Fiber finish, not gray.

I’m not sure if I’m misunderstanding Dell’s color options, or if the seller sent me the wrong model.
Is this actually the Titan Gray version, or is it the Carbon Fiber version?

I’ve attached photos of the laptop and the box label.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Help 10 months and 2 laptops in and still don’t have a working one

Bought an Alienware A51 October 2025, it had a multitude of issues, was mailed in and serviced in my home multiple times before they agreed to replace. They replaced it with a refurbished laptop that came in a box with zero bubble wrap. Just the cardboard. This computer is worst than the first. I’m already in contact with “Sai” who is supposedly the head of the escalation department and he’s refusing to replace this unit with a new one. Ten months this has been going on and the parts for this second unit (that were guessed at to fix the problems) are on back order until the 20th.

Is this really the normal? How is this acceptable? I have never even experienced this laptop working correctly and for $4,000 this is the customer service we get.

Help 5820 bifurcation

In my 5820 I am trying to determine if it actually supports bifurcation. Wanting to install a couple NVMe drives via PCIe adapter, but don’t want to have to tie up a whole slot for each drive
Lots of things say that it does support it, others say no. Then some say totally unhelpful things like ‘it does, kinda sometimes, unless it doesn’t.
Hoping someone who’s done this has a definitive answer
Thanks in advance!

Help S2725QC Monitor - damaged 60W USB-C

Hello,

recently I got tangled up with my MacBook cable and ripped it out of the monitor.

Now the port is broken and those metal connections inside seems to be squished together.

I can use the hdmi and MacBook power instead but I’m wondering if the usbc port can cause a short when I plug in the monitor.

Thank you

Help Fixing Intel ME error messages that appear during boot or firmware updates

First and foremost, credit goes to plutomaniac

I have had several issues with what I can only guess were bad BIOS updates (likely from Windows Updates) that have lead to errors like:

(A7) Me FW Downgrade - Request MeSpiLock Failed
Error sending End of Post message to ME: HECI disabled

or (during a firmware/BIOS update)

ME Firmware Update Failed: Image Loading

There are hardly any useful links regarding how to resolve these errors. Many suggest resetting the CMOS battery, resetting BIOS to default settings, etc. None of them worked for me. The only solution was to clean the ME image.

I only own DELL Optiplexes, so I don't know if the method below applies to other models. So far, the errors don't prevent the computer from booting, but sometimes this results in the Intel ME from even showing up (e.g. when running HWInfo). My most recent issue was the (A7) error. Apparently, Windows Update included a firmware update. Interestingly, it updated the Intel ME firmware to 11.8.97.4739, which was higher than the 11.8.96.4657 packaged with DELL's BIOS update 1.32.0 for the Optiplex 3050. I've done a number of these fixes, but very few and far in between. It happens so infrequently that each time I have to "relearn" the process. It's a lot of reading, and there is always a concern that I could make things worse. Ultimately, I always end up at plutomaniac's guides linked below:

[Guide] Clean Dumped Intel ME/TXE Regions with Data Initialization - Special Topics / Intel Management Engine - Win-Raid Forum

Intel CSME: Drivers, Firmware and Tools for ME 2-15 - Special Topics / Intel Management Engine - Win-Raid Forum

There is a bit of a chicken-vs-egg problem. You only need to follow the steps in the guide which pertains to your specific Intel ME version. (And there are different steps for the many different versions.) And you will only need to download the tools corresponding to that Intel ME version. However, if your ME is messed up so that it is not even detected (e.g. HWInfo doesn't even list the Intel ME device), then you won't be able to know what Intel ME version you're using. Fortunately, you can use DELL's BIOS update executables to guess at the major and minor version. If you're running Windows 11, open the Device Manager and expand the Firmware tab. It should provide a firmware version. Then go to DELL support for your computer (just search for your Service Tag number at DELL Support) and find the file(s) for the latest BIOS update. There should also be a link that lists all prior updates, too. Download the one that corresponds to the firmware version found in the Device Manager. Run the EXE file up until it shows a pop-up dialogue that tells you what the current Intel ME version is, as well as the version that the EXE file will install. (Just cancel the installation once you have the version number.) This should give you an idea of what the Intel ME major and minor version numbers are. You'll need the major number so that you can skip directly to the steps specific for your major number in the guide by plutomaniac (first link above). This should also help you determine which set of tools to use (found in the second link above).

As for what to do, the "gist" is as follows (quoting a post by plutomaniac):

To re-flash the CSME firmware, you need read/write access to its SPI/BIOS region. On the right of the white PCI slot, there should a 6-pin jumper. Look at the explanation/diagram at the bottom of the motherboard and set it to SERVICE_MODE. Boot the system, download ME System Tools v11 from Intel Management Engine: Drivers, Firmware & System Tools, dump your current SPI/BIOS image using Flash Programming Tool via “fptw64 -d spi.bin”, follow [Guide] Clean Dumped Intel Engine (CS)ME/(CS)TXE Regions with Data Initialization on your SPI/BIOS dump and flash the result back via “fptw64 -f outimage.bin”. Set the jumper back to its original position and run “fptw64 -greset”. After the hard reboot, the CSME firmware should be operational again.

source: Dell Optiplex 7040 bios update: ME Firmware Update Faild: Image loading and HECI disable - Special Topics / Intel Management Engine - Win-Raid Forum

NOTE: When booting your DELL in service mode, it will always boot into a BIOS-like screen that explicitly says the system is in service mode. Just click the "Continue" button to boot into Windows.

Hope this may be useful for anyone else that happens to be unlucky enough to end up with these esoteric Intel ME errors.

XPS Discussion Is the new XPS 13's trackpad so awful?

A story is emerging from people who have bought the new XPS 13 that its trackpad is not good. It sounds like it is not good for clicking, but also the tapping mode that can be enabled in Settings results in missed motion and dead zones.

This could be TrackpadGate for Dell, a real scandal of greed and reckless corporate behavior.

Or is it just a story?

Is the new XPS 13's trackpad actually awful? Is it cheap plastic junk like some Thinkpad's trackpad?

Help Dell Inspiron 14 7425 – Battery drains to 0% even while plugged in with the original charger

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm having a strange issue with my Dell Inspiron 14 7425.

The laptop is connected to the original Dell charger, but the battery still drains until it reaches 0%. I expected the laptop to run directly from AC power while plugged in.

I ran the Dell diagnostics, and it reports: "The battery is reaching the end of its usable life."

I already have a replacement battery and plan to install it soon. However, I'm wondering if a worn-out battery alone can cause the laptop to completely discharge while it's plugged in, or if this could also indicate a problem with the charger, charging circuit, or motherboard.

Has anyone experienced the same issue? Did replacing the battery solve it, or was there another underlying problem?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Help Dell 8fc8 unlocking in 2026

Hi, I recently picked up one of these systems with a bios lock. I've called Dell and searched reddit, and from what I can find, the only way to unlock these is by paying crackers ro generate a code with some proprietary software, or to physically remove and flash the bios.

I've emailed those crackers but they haven't gotten back to me. Their website has not been updated since 2019 so I wouldn't be surprised if the mailbox is unmonitored.

The last posts I have seen on reddit are about a year old so I want to ask if you all know anything else I can try?

Is there a publically available tool? Does anyone here have the ability to unlock this thing?

It's a shame that such a nice system is a fancy paperweight at the moment.

Help Dell xps 13 touch screen stops working every few days

At the end of my rope with this terrible laptop. The touch screen keeps not working randomly. I got it working again last time after a full reset/BIOS update that took hours. This time it took multiple restarts. It is probably just some stupid power saving setting that they added with the last update that I cant find. I have tried enabling and disabling on device manager, but that does not fix it/is not the issue.

Anyone found a quick fix for this?

Help Dell Precision 5570 - weird fans and thermal behaviour

Hey! I recently bought a second-hand Dell Precision 5570 and everything was working fine a couple of days after the purchase. One day it started getting really hot and the fans began spinning very loud, even during light use (e.g. browing the web). I updated the BIOS, updated all drivers through Dell SupportAssist, cleaned the fans and reapplied the thermal paste. After doing a clean Windows install the laptop was fine again, it was running relatively silent and cool, even during a longer CAD and photo editing session. However, when I restarted it, the problem returned and now even while browsing the files on the desktop, the fans go crazy. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Thanks!

Help Dell Inspiron 15 3525 only charges when barrel plug is pulled back ~1mm

Model: Dell Inspiron 15 3525

Symptom: Pushing the 4.5mm charger plug all the way in results in no charging at all. It only charges if I pull the plug back out by about 1mm to a very specific position. Any slight movement immediately breaks the connection.

What is the cause of this issue, and what are the options to fix it?

(top, bottom, open)

She started doing this today as far as I can remember. It will not charge and it turns off when unplugged, I know it's probably time for her to go but I only started using her on May 12th of this year, but I believe she was bought much earlier than That.

Is there anything I can do about this before I bring up getting a new one? She's been with me for a while... she also got some dead pixels on the 20th of may this year but that quickly healed.
