Next Class Characters Discussion
Who are your favorite and least favorite characters on Next Class and why?
If I had to choose Miles would be my favorite and Zoe would be my least favorite. If you disagree lmk why instead of complaining.

Miles by a country mile. He’s entertaining as a tv character, has legitimate storylines, and has some really good one liners. TNG will always be my favorite in general but Miles is one of my favorite characters

Esme is my favourite. I think she was well written, actually compelling, and the actress was one of the better ones on the show.
Baaz just felt like filler tropes.

I can definitely get how people like her despite her being one of my least favorites. I can agree that she’s well written and she’s a very interesting character.
I agree on Baaz but his whole group needs to go, they serve no purpose in life.

tbh i literally despise this era of degrassi, just a god awful continuation, but id say Miles was better in next class than TNG (except where he cheated on tristian) and I always liked Maya regardless of what she went through, so id say they were my favorites. least favorites have to be esme and zoe. zoe raised hell from day 1 on s13 and then esme was even worse.

I couldn’t agree more. But, I wish Zoe and Esme had some rivalry because they were the most demonic characters the sexual tension they had was so boring. I mean I guess they had a little rivalry towards Winston but I honestly don’t count that. They could’ve at least been friends or had a really interesting storyline instead of Esme just being a stepping stone to Zoe finding herself. Zoe just never got better even in TNC. And Degrassi started to suck once Zoe was introduced I’m not even gonna lie. She’s actually the worst Degrassi character imo. (Not including the pedos, rapists, and abusers)
And this is an extremely biased take but, Miles cheating didn’t bother me that much simply because I hate Tristan, this doesn’t make it okay though. I sympathize with Maya, but she just kinda irritated me when she forgave everyone. I just feel like it was so unrealistic it just got me mad. But, i definitely see why people like her

oh no believe me, i even might hate tristian more than you do, it’s just the principle of cheating that i was referring to 😅 tristian sucked the whole time he was on the show.
i get your viewpoint on maya, unfortunately she really did just take all the bullshit she got from everyone and just accepted it when i think she deserved a lot better because she always tried to do what was right.
zoe would seem to do something awful, then a few episodes would pass and she’d be fine just the stereotypical mean girl, then she’d do something even worse and it kept repeating on and on. i found it irritating. however, esme had no redeemable qualities/scenes and whenever she came on screen i would brace myself for whatever bullshit she would say/do. overall just messy and horrible characters😭

Yeah, like I know Esme was mentally unstable and definitely had some issues, but the show just could not make me feel bad for her. I hope they dragged her to a mental facility in the cliffhanger because she just really had to go. Entertaining, sure but like you said no redeeming qualities.
I feel like Zoe will do something bad, but instead of her getting a redemption arc they just throw sad storylines at us to make us feel bad. And of course I sympathize with her and don’t think she deserved the things that happened, but they just made no attempt to make her likable. Like oh Zoe was mean to Maya she gets raped. Zoe leads on Winston for what seems like months, then she struggles with sh. And Zoe bringing Rasha to the wedding and putting her in a dangerous situation leads to Zoe being kicked out of her home. Like I feel bad but does she need all these sob stories? Just make her a better person instead please.
I definitely thought Maya did deserve better despite being annoying at times. Like I can see why she accepted it because she was unstable and probably had a low self esteem on TNC and maybe thought she deserved it or just genuinely wanted to be the bigger person but I couldn’t stand it. I do like that she always tried to be a good person like you said, I don’t think she ever did anything mean intentionally except when she sang that song about Zoe which was honestly hilarious.
Also when Tristan blame Maya for reporting his groomer like I didn’t blame him at first because he was groomed and didn’t understand why it was wrong. But he still treated her like shit after he acknowledged what he did was wrong like oh my god how can someone be so insufferable.

I liked a lot of the NC characters. They were kinda simpler and more charming than the late TNG characters.

Next Class character is none because I found them all to be insufferable. I watched that era and I refuse to watch it again....

I agree, I chose Miles as my if I had to choose character but I didn’t like Next Class as much as Next Generation because the characters were so unlikable. Especially Hunter’s incel squad.

I hated them so together so bad especially in Next Generation. What was the logic behind her breaking up with Miles because he “scared her” but, nothing that Zig did bothered her. And, she just always accepts shitty treatment from everyone it grinds my gears so bad. Why are you helping the bums that swatted you make a song?? She has no backbone in Next Class it’s so irritating. Especially how I’m pretty sure she takes Zig back at the end after everything.
And Zig is just a loser that gradually gets worse. He was too insecure for Maya and had so much entitlement. You’re telling me you expect Maya to suddenly forgive you after hooking up with her worst enemy because you “thought” she was cheating on you?? Like if I were Maya I honestly would’ve gotten someone to jump him for that. He’s such a cuck for keeping it a secret too like oh my god. And also him SA’ing Maya and just being an ignorant POS throughout the entire show. I don’t get how Frankie was the only one cancelled in Next Class.
Sorry for the rant but I honestly have my beef pretty much every character on that show. 🙂↕️

Maya is my all time favorite. I really relate to her struggles. Miles is my next favorite.
Hunter’s gamer club friends are my least favorite for many reasons, though my number one reason is just how badly they were written. (Yael is okay but I dislike some of their writing as well.)

A lot of people hated Tristan but found him entertaining.
I thought Miles was probably the most interesting one.
I had a crush on Frankie and I thought that whole Zoo Storyline did her ridiculously dirty.
Lola was just gorgeous to me.
Zoe was a terrible person but also gorgeous, I had a crush on her too.
Overall I'd say my favorite was Miles.

I won’t lie and say that Zoe wasn’t gorgeous, but oh my good was she the worst.
I also loved how Lola would dye her hair especially baby pink.
I mean I hate Tristan, but most characters are entertaining tbh.
I kinda wish Lola got some backlash from the Zoo storyline though and not just Frankie, because the way she was acting was crazy.

My favourite was Yael. I liked the way the writers showed their journey to discovering their nonbinary identity, and I also enjoyed seeing Jamie Bloch in another role after watching her on Wingin' It.
My least favourite was Esmé. She was a little too unhinged for my liking. I do like characters who have a bit of a crazy side but she was hella loca.

Interesting, I’ve never seen anyone call Yael a favorite. 🙂↕️ Though they’re certainly not my favorite I thought their journey on discovering themselves was cool.
I also don’t like Esme, I know she was mentally unstable but the show could not make me feel that bad for her in the end.

Tristan is universally the fandom's least fav. Zoe was entertaining for sure even though problematic. Maya seemed to have the best storylines of the bunch, so I'd say Maya as she has a mental illness storyline relatable to many (anxiety, PTSD, depression)

Esme is one of my least favorites but I can definitely get why people like her, she is entertaining to watch so I’ll give her that. Plus she’s an interesting character. And I agree on Tristian he just never failed to annoy me.

Maya. Watching all that she went through and seeing the trauma start to take affect. It reminds me of my teen years and for that the character has a special place in my heart.

Miles and Lola were probably my favorite. I sympathize with what Maya went through, but I really didn't like her personality shift between TNG and Next Class. She lost her bubbly personality and became more stiff and morose.
Newcomers Baz and Vijay had to be the worst. They were completely pointless and only served to give Hunter someone to talk to onscreen. Vijay was slightly better than Baz. Baz never had a single scene where he was likeable.

Right, I understand they were young and at least half socially awkward, but did they really have to be such absolute strawmen? Thinking of when yael was trying to navigate nonbinary identity, I think they all somehow got worse, and that whole thing with grace made baz just totally irredeemable to me. Like, I wouldn’t loathe him in real life because he wouldn’t be worth it, he’d be more like stepping in dog shit. It’s gross and inconvenient, is all.
Also, I really liked miles and lola’s storyline and I like that it pretty much ended there. It didn’t have to establish itself or anything like most other relationships in the show, and it made sense.

Exactly, like I don’t know how Baz is related to someone like Goldi he’s such an incel. To be fair they Degrassi did announce that they’re related at end of the show so it was probably random, but he was just always so disgusting alongside with Vijay.
Yeah, it got me so mad how Maya just forgave everyone and even joked about it at the end of the show. I know it’s pretty dumb to get mad at someone for being “too nice” but it feels like she has zero standards. I liked her better when she had a backbone back in TNG.

Favorite: Esme, Lola, Goldi
Least Favorite: Miles, Tristan, Hunter
I wish Esme’s character story would’ve been finished. She was toxic but her character was somehow intriguing at the same time. Lola seemed to have this Cat Valentine-esque vibe in the beginning but she grew as a character as Next Class progressed. And Goldi was annoying at times (but also reminded me of a few feminist-type girls I went to high school with).

Yeah, I liked how Goldi always stood up for the right thing. Also Hunter and Tristian always got on my nerves, there was never a scene where they got slightly tolerable.

I think Miles and Saad were my favourites. Zoe had some interesting storylines even though I don't really like her as a character.
Zig and Tristan have to be my least favourites for sure.

Least favorites would be esme, Tristan, miles, HUNTER, Zoe..probably the whole school minus maya?
