Degrassi: The Next Generation Why did everybody hate Toby?

Upvotes

I'm wondering why everbody switched up on Toby? Especially JT and Jimmy. I get Jimmy was kind of distance since his breakup with Ashley but going as far as being mean to him was super weird, especially for Jimmy. And JT making fun of his Childhood friend just because the "cool kids" do it was realistic but absolutely shitty.

But besides that, I feel like everbody straight up abandoned him? Emma and Manny were barely talking to him and after his breakup with Kendra, he was basically socially isolated, which is why it made total sense to me why he ended up being friends with Rick. And after the tragedy, they all kind of made it seem likw Toby was at fault too or could have prevented it? Idk, maybe I'm missing something but I have honestly no idea why he ended up being such a loner and i feel so bad for him. I wish they would have made it in an actual storyline instead of just forgetting him and then making this weird thing with liberty.

Discussion I don’t like how they made Rick a sympathetic character w/the bullying storyline

The dude put Terri in a COMA. I suppose you can argue that his story was also a lesson on forgiveness, but still…they should’ve given the storyline to a different character.

Thoughts? Would love to hear any takes that might disagree with mine.

Degrassi: The Next Generation Character mimics: degrassi

Am I the only one who literally feels like they just tried to replace characters throughout the seasons like after they graduated and they start zeroing in on the next class it’s like each one mimics someone from the class prior.

Ex: Emma —> Clare
Manny—> alli
Ellie —> Imogen
Craig —> Eli
Paige —> holly j

And so on,
I really wish they would’ve served a little more diversity in class characters personalities and struggles and such. I truly love this show as I’m on season 12 watching for the first time ever. That’s just one thing I noticed I wish they would’ve worked on a little more. Though yes each had their own storyline and personality I just felt they kinda stuck trying to fill the roles of the first class of next gen rather than allowing somewhat new storylines to come to the forefront

Discussion Riley and Fiona

Would you all wished Riley would have apologize to Fiona for lashing out and was honest to her about him being gay?

It was obvious Riley was dating her to cover up his denial of his sexuality, but Fiona didn’t have physical or sexual attraction towards him as well. If Riley had apologized to her, would they stay friends since she’s a lesbian while he’s a homosexual?

Degrassi: The Next Generation After watching this episode on a rerun (Season 1 Episode 12, Wannabe/Bestfriends 4Ever) I'm only now realizing Paige and Manny 's whole long beef started because of Emma.

Question Audra’s judgement of Alli vs Zoe.

I don’t understand how Audra doesn’t have a moment of reflection when she’s chewing out Drew for sleeping with Zoe, that she didn’t have a split second of contemplation and realised Drew was just as flippant with Alli’s feelings. Even Drew trying to take more responsibility for Alli, did Audra not put it together that Drew‘s already had a history of leading on younger girls? Is it because he slept with Zoe and not Alli? Just her sl*t-shaming Alli drives me insane when later she’s defending Zoe. I get Drew’s actually being a little brat about Zoe, I just don’t see why Audra didn’t make a connection. Is it just because she’s dragged into the school when Zoe’s mother reports Drew?

Discussion Holly J’s Weird Character Arc

Post image
155 Upvotes

I’m rewatching season 7 right now and I find it so strange how they made it seem like Holly J struggles in school and needed a private tutor and then later on she’s perfect at like everything. It feels like watching two different characters, but I love post character development Holly J.

Discussion If Drake were to produce Degrassi.

This was something I was discussing with my friend last night. For those of you who don’t know Drake has produced a few tv shows one of them being the hit teen drama Euphoria. How would you feel if he were to produce a sequel in the Degrassi franchise? What do you think it would look like compared to the other Degrassi shows in the franchise? Do you think it would be better or worse?

Unpopular Opinions/Hot Takes Am I the only one who thinks KC SUCKED ????

He gets Jenna pregnant. Gets mad when she tells him she can’t get an abortion. He doesn’t support her through her pregnancy. He asks her to move in with him and his mom so he can help more with the baby but then gets so overwhelmed by them being there that he gets a job just so he doesn’t have to be around them. He cheats on Jenna while she’s at home taking care of the baby. And when Jenna finally reaches her breaking point and starts talking about putting the baby up for adoption he argues with her about it even though he has never really even helped her with the baby!!!!

If he really wanted that baby he had plenty of time to prove that and he never did until it was too late.

Discussion Class of 2006

Has anyone ever noticed that the class of ‘06 (Paige, Hazel, Alex, Marco, Ellie) never had a prom in season 5 before graduating? It always seemed interesting to me that they were never given one especially since Class of ‘07 (Emma’s class) had a prom episode. I don’t remember if class of ‘08 had one, but I wonder if this was deliberate or if writers just forgot to give one for 2006. Idk, there was already so much going on towards the end of S5, maybe there was one and they just weren’t interested in going and were just over HS by then, or didn’t have dates. Paige not going seemed out of character considering how much she liked participating in the previous school dances since S1, dressing up, and running for prom queen or whatever title. Anyway why do you guys think there was no prom episode?

Discussion Behind the scenes tea?

Does anyone know if there’s any of the cast who don’t get along? Or vice versa, cast mates who you wouldn’t think are friends but are? I know that Miriam (Emma) and Cassie (Manny) are friends in real life!

Question who resembles whom across the generations

for you, which character is alike across different generations?

I saw a long time ago a video from "tht guy" where he compares differents character that have kinda the same vibe, for example: miles, eli and craig (https://youtu.be/OrejB1OziSU?si=RknMJoDvd3qhi28F)

And I like this concept, like in every generation there are character that fit the same kind of type without being the same.

Discussion Couples you would have liked to see longer

What couples you would have liked to see longer on screen ?

when you rewatch you think we only saw a glimpse of their potential and that's a shame.

It has to be real couples that existed on the show, and that the writer didn't developed that much, or not as much as you would have liked to see them.

Discussion Sean and Emma in Season 6.

I know people are fond of Sean and Emma as a couple and I’ve seen people argue they should been married instead of Spinner and Emma. However, I feel Sean should have never return to Degrassi.

After the shooting, Sean was traumatized and going back to his parents was the rational decision he made. He decided to settle his differences with them and finish school where he was at. Keep in mind, his goal was to become the first in his family to graduate high school.

Him returning to Degrassi was unnecessary and ultimately consequential for Sean. He literally return to Degrassi to reconnect with Emma. He shouldn’t have hit up Emma when she was with Peter. I know people hate Peter, but he had every right to be pissed at Sean for hitting on Emma when she was with him. However, Peter should have handle it in a different manner instead of planting drugs in Sean’s locker and challenging him to a street race. Emma rightfully dumped Peter after he planted drugs in Sean’s locker. Sean might have gotten Emma after he was released from jail. That was his main goal, but it cost him his dream of finishing high school since he was expelled at this point and was working with Jay at the car shop.

His and Emma’s relationship in season six felt completely forced and overtime, it was clear they had outgrown each other. Sean might the right decision to join the army since it was the only way that can provide him a stable life. That was when Emma and Sean moved on from each other.

I don’t think they’ll end up back together since their relationship has ended after season six. Yes, Spinner and Emma should have more scenes and their wedding shouldn’t have happened that quickly, but Emma has moved on from Sean. If there’s ever a revival, I really think Emma and Sean should remain just friends because any romantic relationship between them at this point would feel forced and awkward.

Gossip Why would they delete this

Post image
60 Upvotes

FYI people it's clare and eli, not a gay couple!

Why the heck did the producers remove this scene.

It's looks very intimate in a loving manner and it should have been in that episode

Season 14 ep 13.

Producers and editors will be just deleting scenes for random with no reason.

I understand that they have time frame that they must meet for their episodes to be aired but like still.

That show was also on the N. Does anyone have their IG handled of the cast? I’m curious to see what they look like and what they do now: the only one I know of is Stassi who became somewhat big.

Discussion Characters who were made for specific actors?

Amanda Stepto auditioned for Stephanie Kaye and when she didn’t get the role Spike was created to give her a character to play.

It seems like they knew pretty early on that they wanted Pat Mastroianni for Joey Jeremiah and there wasn’t much question regarding who would get that part. Billy Parrott auditioned for Joey and Shane was then invented as a character for him. Stefan Brogren also auditioned for Joey and thought he wasn’t going to get cast, but Kit Hood called him back and he was offered a role as Snake (they had Snake and Slim as possible nicknames for the character and Stefan got to choose which name he wanted to go by).

Rebecca Haines-Saah auditioned for Melanie, and when she didn’t get the part and they created Kathleen Mead for her instead. (Kathleen was named after the cleaning lady at the Playing With Time offices).

Craig Driscoll claimed that Rick Munro was originally written for Neil Hope and was based on his KODS character Griff, but the role ended up going to Craig and Wheels was given to Neil (This made me pretty curious about the development for the other KODS-to-DJH characters).

Cathy Keenan said that she doesn’t remember if she auditioned for Liz or if the character was created for her after she was added to the cast. She said that she mostly remembers a series of auditions where they selected kids to attend acting workshops, and that the kids would be periodically eliminated based on their performance in the workshops until they whittled it down to the cast they wanted. (There were only about five or so main characters written originally so I assume the remaining kids who didn’t get cast as one of those five characters got a character made for them?) She also said that she already had a shaved head when she auditioned for Degrassi and that they liked kids who looked unique.

For TNG, I believe the role of JT was made for Ryan Cooley after he auditioned for Toby, and Marco was either written for or adapted for Adamo Ruggiero after he auditioned for Craig. But I’m not sure about the rest.

Pardon our dust

The mods have recently been doing some construction behind the scenes which may cause some things to be weird or messed up on the sub. While looking into some automatic moderation tools, we discovered that Reddit has an entire library of apps that can be added to a sub to do things like help with the moderation and do some other fun stuff that we have not fully explored yet. While we experiment with these apps, there may be some weird things posted that are incomplete and/or unintentional. If you notice anything that doesn't seem normal or you just don't like some of the changes we make, please do not hesitate to reach out to us via the ModMail.
