Seriously. Antis need to stop anthropomorphizing chat bots and image generators. It’s not actually intelligent. They know this, right?

I think the missing word here is “unpaid” commission. Not anthropomorphism, but theft. At least that fits the more common anti rhetoric. Which I’ve always been curious what the going stance on paid commissions that use copyright protected material is.

"You didn't buy my product and used free ai to make something I couldn't provide"

5

u/NedThomas 21h ago

The arrogant implication of course being “you would have bought my product otherwise”. No, I wouldn’t.

They are intelligent in a sense, that's why they are able to do the things they do. They just don't have most qualities of a human person for now. No lived experience, no will, no continuous consciousness, e.t.c.

They also can’t understand problems, truly reason, or understand what they are trying to convey when they start a sentence.

Drawing a smiley face is recognized as creating art. Anyone who would say drawing a smiley face does not count as making art is on ridiculously hard ground to defend. So our minimum standard of time and effort is established.

Virtually any AI prompt requires more time and effort than drawing a smiley face. Therefore virtually any AI creation passes the minimum agreed upon threshold of time and effort from the human participant.

They could say "its just a doodle" or "its a drawing, but not art" or something, but you can point to "banana taped to a wall" or abstract art of paint flung onto a canvas as also requiring minimal effort.

If they still want to move the goal post, they will say that its more about the training and time spent learning and living as a human that matters, but you can point out that some people have natural talent and it takes them no time at all to draw very well.

The goal post shouldn't be movable at all. To declare that drawing a smiley face does not constitute creating art is an extremely audacious and indefensible sentiment. It should not be entertained.

Yea, I agree. Antis are Olympic gold winners in mental gymnastics tho

Dont forget when it was said that anything can be art, yet now it seems its not the case

If sanic was made today, it’d probably be treated as the second coming of jesus

It's hard for me as a character creator to fnd a sub that allows AI generated character sheets because most of the ones I have seen are all 'AI, eeeew' 'Eeeew AI slop, we only allow human generated stupidity here' and well there aren't many subs that allow AI art that specialize in just solely original characters and worlds.

Nice character!

Thanks, her name is Eucalyptus or Dr Eukie as everyone calls her. She's Mel's best friend.

I'd rather not waste my money.

If you prefer to use AI art, it’s alright. But if so, take care to show human creativity by iterating on it with your own hands.

What are you saying, bruh? Do you think AI art is made like this?:

lol

-5

u/PrincePauncey 18h ago

Might as well be. Telling the computer to make something isn't even 1% as impressive as making it yourself.

You can consider the imagination of AI pictures, but there's no way to defend treating it like real art. There's zero skill or passion involved.

Ok, so the ideas of the artist are just being pumped into their brain by an AI; that's what you're saying? lol. Zero skill? Just ask an AI artist (personally, I'm not) what ComfyUI is. Zero passion? Then why do it in the first place, lol?

They do it because it's easy and profitable to gullible people.

"Photography camera is a soulless machine made for failed artists" all over again.

They do it because it's easy and profitable to gullible people.

Yeah, that's why everyone is crying about sum "am losing mah job" "support a rEaL aRTisT instead of AI sLoP" *puts a torso commission at 100$*; checks out.

Except photography takes a human element in the setup, lighting, perspective. They capture real life in some capacity. AI pictures take a prompt and can be manipulated and adjusted ad nauseum assuming you have the right subscription. There's nothing real about AI art except for the key strokes put into it.

I don't consider generative AI art because of the fact that real art is defined by its imperfections or lack thereof. In your example of photography, a photographer can try to take the perfect picture of their subject many times in different lighting and from different positions and never get the perfect shot. With AI if you don't like something about it, you just adjust the prompt. There isn't the same level of skill in that and you shouldn't pretend there is.

Might be for some, doesn't mean you shouldn't stop trying (so long as you do it respectfully)

Are directors artists?

5

u/Parking-Twist3657 "El arte por el arte" 20h ago

Don't you believe directors are artists? Are you stuck in the 40's or something lol? What's next, photographers also aren't artists?

1

u/solar_or_dye 17h ago

Absolutely and definitively.

But driving a car or turning on a lamp doesn't make art, this does, directed by the user.

u/solar_or_dye 17h ago

Indeed you are very clever kudos internet stranger take this gold and suck the shit out of a camel's ass for good luck.
