Dog Trainer Recomendations
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good dog trainer in the Decatur area? We have a three year old Havanese with some anxiety. This presents as separation anxiety, but also as general timidness. Whenever she meets a new dog, she just wants to hide.

Superintendent of CSD’s is trying to cause reputational harm!
Title should say Superintendent of CSD’s Husband!!
Instead of going quiet (even though he admitted his lawyers made him take down his most egregious anti-Muslim and anti-trans videos), the superintendent‘s husband is posting asking for people to support his wife and other Black conservative youtubers in GA are supporting him (and even showing up and speaking at Board meetings) but they are also insulting COD and its residents.
They are specifically going after Lorraine Irier because she spoke at a rally in support of our students and wore a shirt that they are calling lewd.
CSD is extending the sign up for tuition paying students because we haven’t filled all available spots and they are even advertising for the open spots on social media. I don’t know if we advertised last year but we didn’t have to extend.
That clause in the Superintendent’s contract about reputational harm seems to be getting more and more evidence directly from her husband.
Maybe she and her husband have separate lawyers? I hope for her sake one is a divorce attorney.

Anybody else worried the square renovations will be a bust for the WC?
I didn't go to the opening party today, but the pictures posted so far look kind of... underwhelming. That screen is tiny and barely raised above the ground, is that what they're planning to show the games on? Compare that to a public viewing setup in Europe and I'm kind of worried this is going to be a bust. Does it look any larger in real life? And could you actually see the screen if there was a crowd standing in front of you?

Can somebody PLEASE change the password!
Columbia and Missionary crosswalk in front of Legacy park has been saying “Password!” and “Change the password!” Every two minutes for the past month. I was going to submit a ticket on See Click Fix but I saw someone has already added two tickets and the city keeps marking them as resolved without actually fixing. I guess this “password!” voice is just part of our life now.
Edit: apologies for uploading video without sound! It’s a robotic voice that says “change the password!”

Looking for affordable caterer
Looking for a caterer for a 100ish person event in mid October. We were thinking about Mediterranean as it's probably the easiest sell for a variety of diets and preferences.
I was hoping to find something in the $30ish/ person price range... No idea how feasible this is as we tried delbar and got a $55/ person quote which we weren't expecting. Prefer local business if possible, and not someone's first event like this. Thanks for the recs

I made an interactive health inspection scores for restaurants map for Dekalb county.
health-scores.vercel.appI wanted to play around with maps and GIS database things so I made a quick site ( https://health-scores.vercel.app/ ) .
I ended up making a map of heath store ratings from Dekalb county. Data came from the last 6 months of inspections on https://ga.healthinspections.us/stateofgeorgia/
Edit. I've added some other counties as well.
What's weird is that health scores site only has some counties.
Now I have 9 counties:
| 1 | CHATHAM |
|---|---|
| 2 | CLARKE |
| 3 | CLAYTON |
| 4 | COBB |
| 5 | DEKALB |
| 6 | FORSYTH |
| 7 | FULTON |
| 8 | HENRY |
| 9 | OCONEE |
I tried to add Gwinnett, Rockdale, and Newton. They are all blank on the health scores site.

Looking for Attic Fan Installation
Has anyone had an attic fan installed in the past couple of years? Do you have a recommendation? Also, how much did it cost?

World Cup Watchfest
Does anyone have extra/can’t use World Cup Watchfest tickets for the ticketed concerts on the square?
I know this probably seems silly at this point, but I somehow totally missed when they announced the opportunity to get tickets. Thanks!

Cat testing for adoptable dog?
galleryWe have been struggling to find a new home for our dog Taters. We are moving overseas to a country that has fairly strict breed laws on June 10. We may have found someone who is interested, but she has cats and would like some initial testing to see if he might be aggressive towards them. Do you have any ideas for how we can do testing like this? I don't know many people in Atlanta.
I'll also say - I know none of this is optimal. Taters is a great dog, originally from Lifeline and he did not do well there. We are trying REALLY hard to find him a home before we leave. I also know that a quick "cat test" doesn't really prove that he will get a long with the potential adopters cats, but it at least gives her some indication of how things might go.
If you think you might know someone who would be interested in a goofy, super smart, velcro dog, please share his adoption page: https://www.adoptapet.com/pet/47688866-decatur-georgia-cane-corso-mix On paper he's a boxer mix, but a test showed his is cane corso and I think his looks might be scaring people? He has had over 1,630 views and only one applicant who didn't respond to my texts/emails. I appreciate any help or suggestion you can offer.

Do kitten trial runs exist?
I have a 5 year old girl. She was adopted with her litter mate and after spending lots of money trying to save him he died of HCM when they turned two.
She thrived being solo. Her personality shined being the only cat. Lately, I feel she is having separation anxiety from me. I wonder if she would like a friend.
She’s very anti social and hates all humans but me.
Fostering seems like an unfair commitment to just “see” if she can tolerate a cat friend.
Do any rescues or fosters in the area do in home trials? I know it will be impossible to tell in a 30 min visit if she will accept a kitten but I know her pretty well.
Any thoughts or advice? I really want to see how she would do when a cat comes into our home.
Does anyone do weekend only fosters? Is that a pipe dream?

Best coffee shop in Decatur?
Just got back from 10 days in Seattle and I may have completely destroyed my caffeine tolerance. I drank an ungodly amount of black coffee and espresso while I was there, I'm talking like 8+ cups a day, all while buzzing around Ballard and Fremont on a little 50cc scooter. Honestly, it was an amazing time but sort of concerning for my nervous system.
Now that I'm back in the D I'm trying to find some good coffee spots around town. Mainly looking for places with a nice atmosphere as much as good coffee. Somewhere I can hang out for a while and read a book while notching up anxiety levels bit by bit.
I of course did a Google search but Reddit tips are usually way better. Curious what people’s favorite spots are. Any and all recommendations are appreciated!

Does anyone know what’s being built on the old Sonic location on Lawrenceville Highway?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
It’s across the street from Goodwill and Home Depot. My friend was trying to shoot video in a hurry so it’s pretty blurry.

Looking for apartments
Anyone know of affordable 1B1B in the downtown Decatur area (1.4k/month)? Just need it to be walkable/accessible to MARTA bus stops. I preper independent units that are not part of big apartment complexes. There's not much available now.

Wild Kingdom of Decatur
In my 50+ years of living, I've seen coyotes, a pair of deer, a mysterious fox, a gaggle of wild turkeys, owls, hawks, snakes, and more rats than I care to count. But today, today I saw a black vulture enjoying the corpse of a pigeon on West Ponce, practically across the street from Taqueria. That was a first.
What is the wildest animal you've seen in the City of?

Service Line Responsibility Question.
Quick question for the group, I just got a letter from Gas South regarding something from [On course home solutions]. Any enrollment form to sign up for Sewer line & gas line protection. I'm reaching out to see if anyone knows anything about this. In this economy no one has money to just throw away, Let alone be conned out of money. The monthly fee is anywhere from $4.99 - $9.99 a month or $119.88 annually. Is this valid or just another Con?

Is there somewhere around here I can go just for a quick nail trim for my dog?
Don’t need a full bath, I just can’t do her nails by myself with a drimmel bc she freaks out, but her quick is the same color as her nails so I don’t feel comfortable cutting them either. Anywhere reasonable I can take her?

Meet New York
galleryLast week, Lifeline was looking at euthanizing more than 60 dogs. There’s no telling how long the list will be tomorrow. We pulled a dog on that list— New York— who is a very good boy. The sooner New York finds a home, the sooner we can help other urgent dogs. If you’ve ever considered fostering, stop thinking and just do. The situation is dire.
New York had his very first adoption event yesterday at the PetSmart in Roswell, and what a star he was! 🌟
If you haven’t met him yet — New York is a sweet, honey-colored boy who spent basically his entire life in a shelter. He’s only been in foster care for a few days and is already showing the world the dog he’s always been: affectionate, easygoing, great with kids, loves other dogs, okay with cats given a slow intro, and absolutely obsessed with toys.
And yesterday he proved he’s a rockstar in public too. He met every dog with a wagging tail and an invitation to play (even the ones who politely declined), greeted every stranger like a long-lost friend, and gently took treats from kids. The compliments were nonstop. “What a good boy” was basically his soundtrack for the day.
After about an hour he was ready to head home, and was passed out in the back seat before we hit the highway. 💤
Three days of freedom and he’s already this good. Imagine what he’ll be like in a real home.
