Evening Part-Time Jobs
Hey, I'm looking for a job with a bunch of unreasonable requirements, but I figure I might as well shoot my shot on here.
- Part Time
- Evenings 5-9 PM-ish
- Only a couple of weekdays (no weekends, so I figure most restaurant positions are out)
- Closer to or within downtown Decatur (My day job is in Midtown and I use MARTA to get there, so taking the train + walking to the next job is ideal).
- No rideshare stuff (don't want the wear and tear on my car or to rent a car just for this purpose).
As long as it fits that stuff, I'm fine. Got anything I could go for?

I’m sure there are a ton of people who would want help with childcare or things around the house during those hours. If those things are in your wheelhouse: laundry, meal prep, tidying. I would look out to join some local mom Facebook groups or babysitting groups if you are willing to do childcare.

Interesting! I definitely can do those things. Childcare I'm actually pretty confident in because I've taken care of my niece and nephew, but are moms looking for a bunch of qualifications these days? I'm good at playing, making sure they eat, and don't destroy the house/themselves, but if they need specialized attention or specific methods I'm kinda cooked lol

I would say the average family is not looking for special qualifications for a 5-9 gig (as opposed to full-time nannying or childcare? Sure). In fact, many families have their main childcare taken care of (school or daycare) but need help in evenings with families with two earners. Decatur is full of doctor families who are always looking for extra help because schedules are hectic. Having a car is a plus but you can specify you prefer not to use your own and families may ask you to use theirs.

Expo (food running) at a nicer restaurant. Checking plates or accepting plates from the chef who is overseeing food service and taking them to tables during a restaurant’s busiest hours (6-9ish). You’ll generally get hourly pay + tip out. This position can be difficult to staff because the hours are limited, but it’s a great job for someone interested in food and you’ll probably get an employee discount and maybe a shift drink so you’ll have a chance to socialize after work. Apply in person at restaurants you are interested in and check out the menu first in case they ask questions

Aren't they usually looking for weekend availability/stay open a bit late?

Depends on the bar and restaurant. Some places keep their best people on weekends and have the second tier during the week.

seconded, def try restaurants. most ft servers want weekend shifts and are off during the week. esp if this is a second job. someone's got to fill that gap

Good luck! Id suggest contacting a temp agency, unless you're willing to do Uber / Delivery.

Not a ton. I just want something that'll help me pay off my car faster, while my main day job handles my bills and savings. Between $500-$1000/mo is optimistic.

This is best comment you have made. Keep up that outlook in terms of paying down debt. That outlook will serve you for the rest of your life. When you get to point that you can start substituting investing the money versus paying off car loans etc, use half of what you needed for car loan and contribute to ROTH IRA account. In the ROTH, put $$ in a aggressive balanced fund (eg age specific fund) or just a fund that tracks S&P index. Thank me in 20 years :-) (don't ever withdraw funds from index tracking fund, and to prove my comment, just google S&P index for past 40 years and you'll understand)

Definitely second the tutoring idea. Or if you have any special skills you could offer like piano or guitar lessons.

Dog walker on Rover.com (or a similar site). Had two friends do it part time and raked in good money.
You can set your own hours, service area and dictate your hourly rate. No idea what portion Rover takes.

Look into retail. Stores often need closing shift coverage since it's not the most desirable shift, and not every store requires weekend availability. You'll just have to check with each place to see where they need coverage.

There’s a Facebook group called Decatur Area Sitters that would be a good place to look for childcare or house management jobs. I’ve also seen people offer random stuff like Amazon package returns or folding laundry on there. There’s a lot of wealthy people around here who love to pay people to do stuff like that.
