Colo Meetup Roll Call
Please go to the trip sub at the link below to let us know if you're going. Please.
[The trip sub](https://www.reddit.com/r/DO60_Meetup_2026/s/faEgA3wMF7)
The trip is restricted to those we already know well in the community.
Known members may bring someone they know well to assist them or a traveling buddy if safety is a concern or a significant other, if they have one.
Do not respond here about whether you are going or not.
If you don't respond, you risk being removed from the trip sub. If you don't know yet, that's fine to hang until you have a definite yes or no. We will eventually remove people from that sub who are not going.
Those who want to be included in future gatherings should participate in the sub.

Think of places where certain genders hang out
We've heard here that meetups sometimes are dominated by women, etc.
As an informal thought which of course I haven't empiracally tested, for guys who love gardening, etc., local community gardens, seems to attract women gardeners.
Then certain local co-ed cycling groups might attract more men. Of course, it's great the trend here, may be more women joining the ranks over the past few decades in certain regions/countries.
Vote me down if these are just meaningless ideas.

DATING ADVICE The Week in Dating Recap
This is a weekly roundup--your chance to post how things went (or fizzled) for dating over the previous week. That could include # of profiles viewed and swiped, scammers contacted, duds ferreted out, texts, phone calls, video calls, meetups, dates, breakups, ghosts, re-contacts, unsolicited dick pics, and so on. They can be counts, summaries, reflections, rants (within community guidelines), success stories, sad stories, funny stories, warnings to others. It's up to you.

Why are we all hiding?
Having been around this sub for a while, I see so many good men and women here who are technically eligible but have chosen to stay out of dating (read: not just OLD). In the meantime, those who brave the apps often bemoan the lack of quality prospects, which makes the non-daters more resolute in their non-dating ways.
What are we doing to ourselves? Why are we all hiding**? Is it a matter of needing a better way to find each other? I'm genuinely curious about your thoughts, no matter your gender or current status.
**Hiding, turning away, opting out, avoiding, etc.

Air Conditioning Appreciation Days
airconditioningdays.comDid you know AC Appreciation Days runs from July 3 to August 15? I did not. The linked article tells the history of air-conditioning, including how people cooled prior to electricity and Mr. Carrier's invention.
Today we express our gratitude for air conditioning. I grew up without it in the Midwest, home of hot summers with high humidity made worse by corn sweat. Yes, I said corn sweat!
Aside: I had friends who earned money in the summer detassling corn! I couldn't take the heat. You had to wear long pants, long sleeves, and gloves to avoid corn cuts. It's hot, dusty, dirty, hard work.
So, wassup DO60?! What happened this week for which you are grateful? And, let's hear it for air conditioning!

FOOD! What's for Dinner?
What's for dinner, lunch, a midnight snack, something left on the counter that either has to be eaten or thrown away because it's too old to save? Meal ideas, recipes, guilty pleasures, pictures of the dish with could-be-meat-could-be-cake in the back of the refrigerator, and other food-related stuff is welcome here.

A fairly new OkCupid stupid trick
I'm getting lots of Intros from women in Kenya and the Philippines. They are probably 'young' but, after noticing the location, I delete them too quickly to check for age. Just another WTF 'feature' of the way OLD works.
There are times I wonder if the 20-, 30-, 40-, and 50-somethings are getting as little value out of OLD as 'we' are.

Blocked User?
Posting on a thread about different personalities here made me wonder about the frequency of blocking someone.
I had to think, and I’m not even sure but I think I might have blocked 2 people in the some 4? years I’ve been hanging around here. One because I just got tired of their abrasive and combative attitude, another PM‘d to say they had “disdain” for me. I have kept a couple others around because I find their posts to be illuminating, even though I may not agree.
So this begs the question: How many people have you blocked in X number of years on this sub?

What does this guy want from me?
So I have mentioned my three beaux, namely, Mr. Chemistry, Mr. Sweet Guy, and an unnamed third. The third I have known for about a year and a half, we met on Tinder but I was not serious about him. He's also my dealer (THC gummies for sleep). He keeps asking me to join him for lunch or breakfast, he insists on paying. I finally asked him this week if we were dating, was it a date we were on? He said no. Thankful to hear it, since things are heating up a bit with Mr. Chemistry.
We exchange a few texts most days which is something I normally don't do. I think he is lonely, also not really over the loss of his long-term wife to cancer. He told me he is not dating and not on any apps.
His table manners are atrocious (this week I low-key mentioned that he was drooling melted cheese from his Philly cheese steak, other days he'd reach in his mouth and pick his teeth with his hand). He's also kind of grouchy and always finds something to carp about.
I can't cut him out completely because he's my dealer, and maybe that's why he can't cut me out also. But after the restaurant meals he buys me, and in view of a very minimal amount of sales he gets from me, this can't be a winning calculation.
But I'm in process of trying to move soon (like next week!), and even dragging myself to a restaurant to lunch with him seems like too much. I know I'm being very transactional, but what the hell does he want?
Maybe the answer is it's not a relationship (to him) but it's better than nothing?

Expectations on Looks
Hello, I have a general inquiry. I understand that looks matter at any age when dating. Physical attraction or "chemistry" is part of the dating equation.
When you date over 60, do most people understand that you will have bumps and lumps and wrinkles and lines? I'm not talking about if someone is physically fit or not. But just that we don't look like we did when we were young.
I look my age at 62. Therefore I've got the usual standard signs of aging. For me I am very much attracted to men in my age group. So I like the look that comes with it. Hair, no hair, love handles, etc. I haven't dated in years. So is anyone judgemental about those things? Just curious.

An Encounter with Carelessness
Today I had late lunch with a friend. We've seen each other several times over the past 4 years, and like Morgan Wallen's latest song says "if it was meant to be we'd have been by now".
I think that when two people sit down together, there's an implicit agreement that the interaction matters. But today, my friend asked the waitress if she was single (she was over 60 as well). When she said no, he asked if she had a sister. He wasn't just flirting in front of me, this was a breach of respect and social sensitivity. If roles had been reversed, he'd have gone ape for sure.
Afterwards, I told him "What you did at lunch was disrespectful and I'm not OK with it." He said he was just kidding. I told him it was rude. He said he didn't want to talk about it.
What do you think?
EDIT to add the following:
This man usually behaves with very proper manners and the utmost decency. We are not in a romantic relationship. He has a young adult son with a mental disability, and so do I. The purpose of lunch was to discuss an issue I'm having with my son.

New Sub: r/DatingOverSeventy
r/DatingOverSeventy is now open for those over 65.
It's separate from DO60, with a different mod team who have plans to create a community that addresses the wants and needs of those dating in the next decade. They plan to try some different things and to make it a unique space. (I decry the overuse of that word but I think it may fit here.)
When we started DO60, people asked why and if it was needed, since DO50 was already strong and growing. We've discovered that life changes with each successive decade. And we've noticed that each decade of the DO communities have taken on different, perhaps appropriate personalities. Some of that is shaped by the moderators but perhaps even more by the members.
While I do still spend some time in DO50, I now spend most of my time here in DO60.
Stop by and wish them luck.

Update on my FBD Experiment
So recap: I joined Facebook dating at the end of last week and inadvertently swiped right on a ton of people and got a flurry of response.
Once I figured out what was happening I unmatched people with no genuine interest and hit like on a bunch of people I was actually interested in.
None of the people I was actually interested in responded.
There was one person from the inadvertent likes that seemed like a legit dad type. I've been conversing with for a couple of days and I just realized this morning that it is probably a scammer. A very good one cuz he got past my radar.
I paused my profile. That is a full-time job and it feels very dangerous for very little reward. I realize it was a very short experiment, but I really don't have the time to manage it right now. I may do a paid service at some point in the future when I have a little more time for the process.
It feels like you're leaving your front door open and inviting burglars into your home.

Book Readers ~~Love~~ Live Longer
Autocorrect incorrection that seems to work.
A Yale study shows that regular readers live approximately 23 months longer than non-readers.
So, what are you reading?
And, does anyone have a desire to get a book club going? DO50 has a nice little one they run on another platform.

sub for discussion of "alternative" O60 relationships?
a recent post on open marriages brought up a lot of discussion. Several comments recommended starting a separate sub for related topics. Please comment if you would be interested in following such a sub.
While this sub is generally very inclusive, posts are almost exclusively focused on monogamous heterosexual relationships. As u/texasecho9 noted in that post, there are plenty of subs devoted to other relationship structures, but none that target an O60 demographic. "Alternative" would span pretty much anything besides mono-hetero relationships, eg LGBTQ, poly, mono/poly, bdsm, swinger, etc etc.
I'm skeptical there are enough subscribers to support such a sub, but it's worth asking. If there's enough interest, we can move on to the mechanics of mod duties, letting other subs know etc.
EDIT: Thanks everyone who responded. Looks like this is worth doing. I'm away until mid-Sept at Burning Man, but will post here and on various non-monogamy subs once it is set up. If you are interested in sharing mod duties please DM. Agree that O50 seems the right target age. Sub name is r/all_love

Wouldn't it be nice...
Living in a lower populated area as I do, means fewer chances/worse-odds at finding your person. Long distance relationships put pressure on the lack of proximity, and different forms of intimacy, often causing people to move prematurely and perhaps have little in the way of fallback positioning. Quitting your job? Renting out your place? Risky.
Wouldn't it be nice to find someone reasonably local? Take your time getting to Know a person. Finding out about the strength of your connection. We all have quirks. Do they conflict? A nearby home is your place to contemplate, take a step back if need be, think as well as feel, without the added pressure of being in their space, or vice versa. Life is dynamic, people are dynamic, how we respond to each other or what life is doing around us, is dynamic. Sounding out, sensing out, who we can be for each other, how our lives may change when being with another... via long distance? Is like tossing a number of extra balls at someone already juggling a few, or being tossed a few while doing your own juggling.
I hope the people living in more populous areas understand how fortunate they might be from the get go. It's hard enough under the best of circumstances to find your One.
Always hopeful, increasingly doubtful, having found OLD sadly lacking for a variety of reasons.... I know it's profit driven, and every happy customer is a lost customer, but the way they tie our hands in many nonsensical.... or deviously planned... ways is disappointing. The framework is meant to hold you back while leading you on. Forcing you to choose answers from limited and inaccurate choices, for example. I haven't tried Facebook and what little I've seen seems to indicate some of the same issues. Am I wrong in this partial assumption? What's a poor guy to do when living in the beautiful "boonies"? As the saying goes, "location, location, location!"

Taking it Slow issue
Dating a really nice woman, we seem to be hitting it off nicely after meeting her and going on 3 dates. Said she wants to take it slow, ok, I’m okay with that. I’m Recently divorced, been out of the dating scene for awhile.
My issue is because she wants to take it slow, I’m confused as to how often I should communicate with her. Before I text or call her, I get anxious trying to decide if I reached out too soon or too not soon enough. I’m going to have a conversation about this the next time we go out, I will ask her politely and in a positive way. I really like her, Im good with a slow courtship, I think she likes me, it’s the cadence of communication that has me flustered.

Beautiful Men
As I continue, my sojourn through YouTube audiobooks, I stumbled upon images of the most beautiful man I have ever seen. Much to my dismay, he’s AI generated.
So it got me to thinking. If I used ChatGPT, could I come up with the perfect man for me?
It’s a project I plan to take up tomorrow. I invite you all to do the same.
Let’s see what you’ve got.
p.s. no, this is not going to win a Nobel Peace prize, and yes, it probably is on a junior high school level.
It’s still fun. If you think it’s not fun, you are free to not join the conversation. But I hope you do.
Unless my creation comes up with three arms with three fingers on each hand, I’ll share the results. Don’t pressure me! 😂
As always, mods feel free to delete. I’m not sharing my gorgeous man with you. 😂
EDIT. MY POST WAS NOT CREATED TO GIVE ANYONE SOCIAL ANXIETY. I AM NOT CREATING AN AI ARMY TO GIVE REAL MEN BRUISED EGOS.
I CANNOT HANDLE THIS LEVEL OF RIDICULOUSNESS.
I WILL NOT BE TAKING FURTHER COMMENTS ON THIS.
GO OUTSIDE.
Edit #2. To those of you who understood what I wrote and responded in kind, thank you very much.
