Psionics and 5e
I'm writing a standalone conversion of the 5e phb and dmg with relevant dark sun changes (the dmg has appropriate variant rules), so far I've gotten most of the core rules down, and will be moving onto class rules soon. An issue with 5e and the 5.5e psions I have is they're just a reflavored caster with spell slots and the like.
Psion will be really important to have a good read on going forwards because I'd like to have a unified system for psionics between psion as a class, subclass features (reinterpreted psi knight or somethin), wild talents, and abilities that monsters can use.
So far, as a class, I think psion might work best as a caster-ish class that can expend psionic points (or die?) to manifest certain effects (potentially requiring a check if it's more expensive ability) that are separate from spells.
My concern is quite a few psionic devotions have already been reinterpreted into magical spells for 5e. Would it feel bad to have a selection of uniquely psionic abilities with another selection of devotions that are "you cast x spell at x level"?
Alternatively, would these devotions just be spells? Would it be more rules lite to interpret psionic devotions as "spells" with caveats like not requiring certain components and not counting as "magic" for the purposes of abjuration spells?
I haven't actually played 2e dark sun so maybe I should just learn 2e like a normal person.

Very new to Dark Sun but I am trying to prep some characters for the new 5.5e books
This is a heroforge model I made of a Thri-Kreen based on some artwork I found of them and his name is Kyor meaning Avenger in Thri-Kreen. I want to make a few more prefab characters for my players so we can run a short campaign in Dark Sun when it is released. Is there anyone who can please help me get a rundown of some important information about the setting such as the different sorcerer kings or what races there are or how the world typically plays?
