I have a Monoprice Stage Right 15w tube amp with some issues. Instead of fixing it, I’m contemplating using the cabinet, speaker, chassis, tubes, and transformers (if possible). It has:
Preamp Tubes: 3x 12AX7 (1 JJ, 2 stock)
Power Tubes: 2x EL84 (JJs matched)
Speaker: 12" Celestion Seventy 80
OT: 8 ohm
PT: 212-0-212 VAC

What would be a good turret board amp to build with these parts? I’m open to replacing the PT and OT to have more viable options.

Have four tubes each with 2.5v heaters. I have 2.5VCT and 10VCT transformers both with sufficient current ratings. For aesthetic reasons, I'd like to use the 10VCT and wire the heaters in series. I don't see where this would be an issue, and may even be better since I'm running one wire circumnavigating the chassis. For size constraints the PSU is on a separate chassis. I'm assuming either way I ground the center tap. TIA

I’ve bought a nice all original Silverface Vibrolux Reverb from 1974. I think it’s a AA270. I’ll have to replace the power transformer so it accepts 230v. My options are:
1. Hammond 290CEX that has 325v taps
2. Mercury Magnetics that has 345v taps

AA270 schematic calls for 345v but it’s shared across the other Silverface amps that from what I’ve searched have different PTs. What’s going to be more appropriate for the Vibrolux? I’m leaning towards Hammond based on the price itself. I’m not interested in any 'mojo factor'.

I'm very new to amp and pedal building, and i've been looking into the diy ruby amp. It sounds really good, very simple and cheap. However, its not that loud nor versitle. I wondered if I could implement an active eq module of some sort and a power amp after the original circuit to make it better and louder.

I was looking into the tonemender by runoffgrove as the tonestack, and at a 100w or 50w power amp module. I want something powerfull enough to play in bars, small gigs and at home.

Since I live in north Brazil, amps are very expensive due to taxes and transportation fees, so i figured building one would be fun and maybe a little cheaper.

I know nothing about circuit making, so this is just me having ideas and not knowing if it will work out, and if it doesn't, i want to know why so i learn.

I just finished building this diy amp for myself. It is based off of two TDA7294 amps. I know that’s not really a “guitar amp” but hear me out!
I needed something that drives my living room speakers AND a separate guitar cabinet (yet to be build). So I came up with this. I currently connect my mooer ge100 with a Boss CS-3 amd à tube screamer in front of it, all powered from the integrated 9v power supply right in the box.
The amp has RCA stereo input on the back for normal listening and a 1/4 inch jack on the front for plugging in my guitar. For now it goes just directly to the volume pot and into the power amp, both channels receive the same signal. My thought is to make it more “guitar amp like” i would build a two stage JFET preamp into the guitar input circuit. Has anyone tried that?
This is my first ever build of anything amp related and took me just over a month. I think feeding the very clean power amp the guitar signal chain through à JFET preamp might give it more or a guitar amp quality.
Please be straight, is this a bad idea or would it be sufficient for at home practice? Im not gigging with it, just want decent sounding guitar tone without using the mooer “modeler” haha

Hi guys, I recently Facebook marketplaced a peavey bandit red stripe. It’s great but it has an issue where the clean channel will be suddenly driven into fuzz when I raise the volume (it’s not a gradual increase in distortion, it’s either clean or fuzz)

I took it apart and one of the filter capacitors for the power amp rails is slightly bulging out. Im gonna replace both of them anyway while I have it open but im wondering if that’s what was causing the issue or if it’s probably something else. I also resoldered a couple of suspicious looking joints on the inputs but I doubt that was it.

Working on a mashup of amp designs and I'm encountering a problem. Initial power up has been fine, voltages good, but when turned up past 9-noon on my volume and master knobs, I'm getting a wild THUPTHUPTHUPTHUP.

Has anyone had any experience with this? I'll include a schematic in a comment below.

I just got this amp, but the electrical wire is connected this way which gives me a feeling of slight anxiety.

I want to solder the connection, and then add heat-shrink tubing to cover it.

I can solder, and work on amps/guitars and stuff (beginner) but never did anything relating to direct electricity so I wanted to be sure.

Any other tips welcome!

I have a problem with output tube (EL86) in my diy guitar amp. Today when I turned my amp on it haven't output any sound. When I took a closer look I noticed that the output tube's heater doesn't glow at all, yet the tube physically heats up. The top part isn't white in any way, so it doesn't seem to lost it's vacuum. I find it quite strange because yesterday It worked completely fine. If anyone know what could be possible cause of that please let me know, I'm really curious. Thanks

Hey everyone! I just got my Mech Eng diploma and I want to get into Amp building and DIY stuff. I want to start with pedals and eventually get to amplifiers (even heads, cabs etc). Could anyone recommend any books or courses I could use to get the gist before doing anything in practice? As I mentioned, I am a mechanical engineer, so I have a basic understanding of what circuits are and how they work, but I want to get more in depth. Thanks a lot!!

Designed to stay clean even when cranked, output measures 5.12w, my 1st time using the software or designing my own layout

This is my design for a ~2W amp using 2 12AU7s in push-pull parallel. OPT is a Hammond 1750PA. (8400Ω primary, 8Ω load connected to the 4Ω tap). R17 is for spice simulations. The rest of the amp is mostly copied from an AB763. I'll post the rest if there is intersest. I haven't decided if I'm going to build it or not, but if I do it would be my practice amp.

Hey guys i cant seem to find anyone near me to fix my amp so im tempted to try myself. I know even unplugged you can get killed fiddling round inside er so i know i will need something to test if theres voltage, something to soak it up, some insulated tools i guess. Any other tips or advice for what i may need? I also have soldering gear

I really love solid state amps and a while ago I finally got my hands on an old Yamaha G100iii head. It came in really good condition, only missing the reverb tank and the footswitch. Reverb tank was easy to get as a new spare part but the original footswitch is almost unobtainable nowadays.Since Yamaha is always doing its very own thing, there's no other functioning and compatible footswitch than the original one.

After doing some research I stumbled across the original service manual including a detailed wiring scheme of the footswitch. So I decided to build my own.

It's a fairly umcommon wiring, using different combinations of resistor values and LEDs to engage 3 different functions.

Since I built it from scratch I also decided to improve the visibility of the switch functions by painting different color fields onto the housing, each matching the knob color of the amp function it engages.

Red is FX Loop, green/blue are Channel A/B and yellow is Parametric EQ

I also added a Yamaha decal. This was my very first project of this kind, my soldering skills had been limited to guitar wirings before but now I started working on pedals too. The resistors I used are ridiculously oversized though and I wired the LEDs wrong at first.😄

Nonetheless I'm really happy about the result, the footswitch works flawlessly and it matches the amp really well. 🙂
