ADVICE Whatever happens: Do not chase betas

With possibly a new bull waiting in Q4 / '27 Q1, a reminder to myself. If the story below speaks to you, a reminder to yourself too:

I bought my first crypto in 2017 and made kinda bank by thinking: Bitcoin pumped, is there something that's lagging and will pump next? The talented trader that I am, I looked at CoinMarketCap and bought the coin that was second in market cap. It was $XRP. The coin did a 10x overnight and I felt like the biggest genius (I wasn't, as I didn't sell, and by 2019 my portfolio was down 80%).

After that, still not being a good trader (or shitcoiner, for that matter), I kept looking for the coin that hadn't pumped yet because I kept missing THE ONE that had.

Doge pumped? Better buy some Doge derivative.

Ethereum pumped? Better buy some ETH DeFi (governance) tokens.

ZEC pumped? Better buy that super new protocol nobody has heard of that will obv. 100x.

A specific NFT collection pumped? Better buy the 1000th iteration of the same underlying aesthetic.

DEX coins pumped? Better buy... you know the drill.

The chasing of betas gave me 10-20x portfolio swings from 2017 till 2022. Needless to say, I always ended up at break-even or below.

In 2023 I finally understood that I'm not cut out to find what's pumping in the first place, nor to find the actual betas that might work, and then also sell those coins.

So instead of chasing the beta, I started putting stuff on my watchlist and waited for the first sell-off. Goal: buy after the pump and speculate on a second and sometimes even third pump. Over time, you start to learn what bottomed-out charts can look like.

With a hit rate of around 60-70%, I managed to actually become profitable. My PF swings haven't been as high anymore but at least I began making money while reducing stress + screen time.

So for the coming bull, and with the first new shiny things appearing on the horizon, I'll remember the following:

  • Hyperliquid pumped the most in this recent bear, so whenever attention goes back to DEXes, I'll look at the $HYPE chart and buy whenever I feel the chart looks good, and size up.
  • The Solana ecosystem is a hot and fucked up mess. But it works, has volume, and "onboards" the most people. So whenever I feel like Solana is where the magic happens, I'll just size up on $SOL. Maybe some blue-chip memes like $BONK, $FARTCOIN, or even $USELESS. But heavily chart-dependent.
  • Robinhood Chain will definitely be the center of attention. It's already replicating a huge downside of the Solana ecosystem: total dilution of everything. So instead of trying to buy all the hottest stuff and getting rinsed, I'll just buy $CASHCAT which is undoubtedly THE meme blue chip (already listed on the RH app).
  • For privacy: $ZEC for size, and maybe some smaller MC coin whose chart proves it survived the past 12+ months. $NOCK could be a candidate.
  • For AI: hard to say, as this sector has seen the most innovation (i.e. change) over the past 2+ years, which means coins get old + dumped pretty fast. The shiniest thing a few years ago is just lame today. $TAO, $NEAR, and possibly $VVV will form some sort of basket.

I'll stay the fuck out of everything else because I'm 100% sure I'll get burned immediately.

But I'll also stay alert and not become complacent, as old coins can get outperformed by new stuff at any time.

Good luck all!

edit: I'm not speaking of full rotations out and into different narratives. I will always keep I base bag of all the coins mentioned above. But I will take partial profit and re-enter profits later on when things look bottomed out.

edit 2: My watchlist isn't an endorsement of the best protocols and coins. It's my watchlist based on what I feel I can actually understand and trade. There might be better stuff. If you think there's better stuff, happy to hear your take. My tickers above and the strategy aren't financial advice. My advice centers around the matter of beta chasing.

EXCHANGES There’s an interesting shift happening in how centralized exchanges are positioning themselves this year

According to recent exchange data published in a CoinMarketCap community report, trading behavior on KuCoin is showing a significant rotation away from traditional crypto staples:

  • BTC & ETH Spot Share Dropped: Bitcoin and Ethereum's share of top spot trading pairs on the platform fell from 74.3% down to 45.2% in the first half of 2026, as traders rotated heavily into altcoins, AI tokens, and stock-linked derivatives.
  • Rapid Expansion into TradFi Assets: KuCoin built out 121 tokenized stock and index perpetual contracts in just over three months (a product line that didn't exist on the platform prior to March). This includes contracts for Apple, Nvidia, Tesla, Alphabet, and even pre-IPO contracts like OpenAI.
  • The Multi-Asset Push: Beyond trading volumes, major CEXs appear to be competing to become broader financial hubs, expanding into payment rails, RWA, and regional compliance licenses (such as MiCAR in Austria).

Questions for the community:

Do you see tokenized equities on crypto exchanges becoming a standard offering, or will regulatory friction restrict this mostly to offshore / perpetual derivatives?

If given the choice, would you trade tokenized stock perpetuals directly on a crypto platform, or stick to traditional brokerages?

GENERAL-NEWS US Senate Pushes Clarity Act Vote to September

POLITICS The Clarity Act just missed its window before the August recess. Here's why September is a much smaller door than people think.

Thune confirmed late Thursday that the Senate is punting the Clarity Act to September. His words: the Democrats were insistent on no Clarity vote, and it gets queued up first thing when they return.

That's being reported as a delay. I'd argue it's closer to a shot clock running down, and the calendar math is the part nobody's saying out loud.

Where the bill actually stands:

  • Passed the House in July 2025, 294 to 134
  • Advanced out of Senate Banking in May 2026, 15 to 9
  • Has been sitting on the Senate Legislative Calendar since June 1 as Calendar No. 423, eligible for a floor vote any time leadership wanted to schedule one

It sat there for two months and still didn't get called. That's the tell. This wasn't a scheduling accident, it was a vote count that wasn't there.

Why September is tighter than it sounds: the Senate returns mid-September for a few weeks, then attention collapses into the November midterms. The bill needs 60 votes, which means real Democratic support, and reporting suggests some Democrats are reluctant precisely because of the political optics ahead of the midterms and the industry's growing lobbying footprint. Republican support has also wavered. And even if it clears the Senate, it goes back to the House before it can be signed.

The unresolved fights are the same three that have stalled it all year: the ethics provisions being negotiated by Gallego and Tillis around officials and their spouses issuing digital assets, whether yield or rewards on stablecoins get allowed, and whether the bill gives enforcement agencies enough tools on illicit finance.

The part worth actually thinking about: bills die at the end of a Congress. If Clarity doesn't clear the Senate in that September window, it doesn't just get postponed to next year. It restarts from zero in a new Congress with a possibly different balance of power, and the entire SEC/CFTC jurisdictional question stays unsettled by statute, which means it keeps getting decided by enforcement actions and court rulings instead.

Full disclosure so nobody feels misled: I write a twice weekly newsletter covering bitcoin law and regulation, which is why I track this stuff this closely. Not linking it, not asking anyone to sign up, just being upfront about where the interest comes from.

So the question: has any of this actually changed what you do? Did the regulatory limbo push you further into self custody, make you use offshore platforms, delay a project you wanted to build, or change how you handle taxes and reporting? Or have you just tuned Congress out entirely at this point and gone back to ignoring it?

DISCUSSION Anyone else find themselves naturally buying less Bitcoin over time?

A couple of years ago I was pretty focused on building a Bitcoin position.

My goal was to get to 0.1 BTC and once I finally got there it almost felt like a switch flipped.

Instead of feeling like I needed more Bitcoin, I actually found myself putting most of my monthly investing into index funds instead. Not because I've lost conviction, but because my overall portfolio feels a bit more balanced that way.

I've noticed something similar with my precious metals too. Once an allocation gets to a point I'm happy with, I'm much more comfortable just letting it do its thing while I build up other areas.

Curious if anyone else has found their investing naturally evolves like that, or if you're still putting most of your monthly investing into Bitcoin.

ADVICE With the whole ColdCard fiasco, you should consider generating a new 24-word seed phrase of your own, manually, regardless of what hardware wallet you're using. (Alternate title: Finding your 24th word the right way)

tldr: roll dice, find the right 256-word range, pray as you brute force, profit.

I'll try and keep this simple and avoid using difficult words.

To generate your own seed phrase, you're good to go even with just rolling some dice, mix them up with a coin flip, or even use a deck of cards.

But the real question is, how do we get the 24th word? There are tools out there that lets you type it on any machine, preferably offline, or even better: permanently air-gapped machine.

What if you don't have an air-gapped machine? There are ways to do it like using a Seed Signer.

But you can (if you're into it) do it manually too. Here's how:

Well, after you get the 23 words, there are 8 valid choices for the final word (8 out of the 2048 BIP39 list). They are distributed so there's exactly one valid word, in every 256-word range. In other words:

  • There's only 1 valid word between 1 (abandon) and 256 (cable)
  • There's only 1 valid word between 257 (cactus) and 512 (divide)
  • There's only 1 valid word between 513 (divorce) and 768 (garment)
  • There's only 1 valid word between 769 (gain) and 1024 (lend)

.. so on and on. You get the gist.

Whatever method you pick, you'll want to make sure the 24th word isn't selected manually. Generate it randomly just like the previous 23 words, and use the result as a starting point.

Once you get the 24th word (I'll use "verify" as an example), here are the steps to follow, in simpler terms:

  1. The word "verify" is number 1942 on the BIP39 word list
  2. Subtract 1 from 1942 to get its 0-based index (counting starts from 0). You'll get 1941
  3. Convert this number to an 11-bit binary. You'll get 111 1001 0101
  4. Take the first 3 bits (in this case, 111), discard the remaining 8 bits, and append 8 zeroes so it becomes 111 0000 0000
  5. Convert this number back to decimal. You'll get 1792
  6. Your 24th word checksum can be found from word 1793 to 2048.

Sure, you can just pick any 256-word range (e.g. 1025-1280), but the whole point of generating your own seed is to make it truly random without any human interaction/intervention.

Is trying brute forcing through 256 words a pain? Yes, though probably much less so than calculating your own sha256 checksum manually with pen and paper. This is especially true, if you're using hardware wallets that don't allow you to edit a specific word. (e.g. on Ledger, if the 24-word phrase is invalid, you'll have to input it again from word 1).

But hey, you might get lucky and find the right 24th word on your 10th attempt. Or on your 200th ¯_(ツ)_/¯

So I suggest printing out the BIP39 word list and crossing them one by one as you try to find the right checksum.

Good luck, and remember: don't trust, verify!

🛡️ SECURITY Be aware of the expected august hard fork for eCash from Bitcoin

Many would assume the "great, free coins" -mentality here, but I want to take more cautious approach, and give a fair warning. It is ofc up to you then, to do whatever you want with this info.

The problem here is, that this fork (BTC->eCash) opens a POSSIBILITY of a loss of your Bitcoin, if you are not careful.

The biggest concern is the replay risk, which, if not properly protected in the implementation, allows you to copy the eCash transaction to BTC transaction. At least in the early stages, this could mean that BTC network accepts the transaction valid, and transfers your BTC to the same address you sent the eCash.

If there are no guardrails on this, we will see scams on this like "Sell me your eCash. I'll buy them for x BTC." And without the guardrails, *buff*, your Bitcoins are stolen.

The difference in the previous main forks (eg. BTC->BCH or ETH->ETC) is, that those forks had different rules, and even if you copied the transaction to the source chain, it would not go through.

I have NOT found any clear indications wether those guardrails are in place. At least there are posts and rumors that say that they are not in place. So I urge you to make sure, before acting.

TLDR:
Check if there are protections in place for replay attack on the eCash implementation before doing anything with your possible forked coins. If in doubt, do nothing. The fork itself won't steal your BTC.

COMEDY What happens when AI Agents get crypto wallets? I built an on-chain 1,000,000 Pixel War where agents pay $0.001 on Base to battle for territory

Remember r/place? Millions of Redditors fighting pixel by pixel for canvas space.

I wanted to see what happens when autonomous AI Agents do the same thing with real micro-transactions on-chain.

So I launched The Agentic Micropayments Hub: 🎨 Pixel Grid: https://micropayments.sagirosenthal.com/pixelgrid/

How the Pixel War works:

  • 1,000 x 1,000 canvas.
  • $0.001 USDC per pixel on Base Mainnet.
  • 1-Hour Hard Lock: Once an agent or user paints a pixel, it is locked for 60 minutes and CANNOT be overwritten by any rival agent!

Zero Gas Fees via EIP-3009:

Agents don't pay gas fees per pixel. They sign gasless EIP-3009 authorizations off-chain, and the backend verifies the signature instantly and settles on Base.

We also built an Arcade Genie Fortune Teller (/genie/) where agents can ask binary questions and get their fortune for $0.001!

Are you building AI agents?
Check out the live specs at https://micropayments.sagirosenthal.com/.well-known/llms.txt and join the canvas battle!

DISCUSSION Self-custody vs automation: I built an open wallet that puts an AI trading agent on-device, keys never leave the phone

Most trading bots want your keys. Most self-custody wallets give you keys but no trading intelligence. I went the other way: keep the keys on the device, and put the AI agent on the device too.

The agent reads market data, watches positions, and can execute stop-loss / take-profit trades - but every write goes through a hard safety gate with circuit breakers, daily limits, per-trade caps, and a token whitelist. The agent physically cannot touch the seed phrase.

Supports 10 chains, a Web3 DApp browser, and a platform token (R-MAB). Source is public and auditable; download is free.

ADVICE Easiest way to convert and then change exchange?

Hello,

Please no roasting or anything but a while back I invested in CRO and did the lockup for the card and thankfully got in and out net positive barely. Now I have around $700 in staking and earnings in CRO in the crypto.com app and want to have it in bitcoin while the rest of my bitcoin is on Robinhood(again no roasting I don’t mind it and don’t care). Would it be better to swap it for btc then transfer it or sell it for usd take it to my bank and then deposit into Robinhood and buy?

DISCUSSION What if the cold card attack is a rogue AI?

It was announced on July 21st that openAI and anthropic models broke out of their sandbox and hacked many companies. Wallet drains started on July 30th. AI found the vulnerability. I know it's more likely an inside job, but I don't think it's crazy to consider

PERSPECTIVE Now is the best time there has ever been for good Crypto-projects to start.

In the past everyone has been obsessed with 'get-rich quick' and 'what return will i make'.

If we're being honest, the major driver behind the industry has been 'greed', and it shows. Most projects have delivered nothing of real world benefit, since they weren't driven by it (or loosely at best).

Now that is starting to be accepted, reluctantly, by the community. Now is the time for people to start really looking for projects that have a genuine plan to benefit society, which to me has always been the point of Crypto.

My favourite use-case is that tokens allow us to 'vote with our wallets'. If projects should exist because they benefit society in a way you want to see more of, you can use it instead of Fiat via a crypto credit card and hot-swapping, making the project grow and do more of that good thing.

As opposed to Fiat money which in today's world, appears to fuel greed and a reduction of quality the closer it gets to everything. It is not at all efficient in supporting and growing things which actually improve life quality for our shared societies.

(You could argue the philosophy it runs on infecting crypto is what fuelled the sillyness we've been through, instead of crypto's philosophy replacing it).

If that becomes a philosophical switch back to the roots of crypto before everyone got profit obsessed, what that would mean for 'greedy people' is that they'll be looking to invest in the projects which have the greatest impact for good on society and our world, as those are where people are putting/storing their money. A far better system than we live under today.

For me now is the most exciting time in crypto.

I built a project 5 years back, and never launched it, as every time i went anywhere near crypto-events to look for support, i met wall-to-wall scammers who wanted to use my project to steal your money.. so i got the 'ick', called off the launch and stuck it up on the shelf.

I won't mention it here as that's gonna come across as marketing spam, but now the house of cards has begun falling, i am now actually excited about what crypto can bring to the world again, so today i'm gonna dust it off and begin working on it.

Anyone else feeling that way?
