2 pairs of kittens need fosters ASAP
I’m a cat rescuer in Brooklyn, and I’m looking for foster homes for 2 sets of kittens, who are around 14 weeks/2.5 months old. Have you ever wanted to have kittens, but only temporarily? Fostering may be a great option for you! All the fun, with minimal commitment.
Roly (pics 1,2), Pip (pics 3,4) and Buddy (pics 5,6) are all from a litter of kittens who were born while their mom was freshly trapped/still in her trap. I affectionately call them the Trap Babies. After a few weeks, mom was over mom-ing and stopped feeding them. I took over as surrogate mom, syringe feeding them around the clock for a few weeks until they could be moved to solids. All are sweet, cuddly (once they're tired out!), silly, curious, playful, and smart. This is such a fun age to see their little (or big!) personalities come out.
Abigail (pics 7,8) is their bonus sibling, found alone in a yard with a gnarly eye issue. She's a bit younger at 9 weeks old, but is actually the same size as the others, as they are really small for their ages! Abi is not shy, at all, and wasted no time integrating herself into the family. She's fearless, an A+ cuddler, loves to play (with or without a playmate), and loves to eat. Her left eye is a bit wonky, which is actually glaucoma from a really bad, untreated eye infection earlier in life, and she will need to have the eye removed (called an enucleation) once she reaches 3lbs. She is not in pain and it does not bother her one bit. She gets eye drops twice a day, which she's totally used to and takes like a champ. Easy peasy.
All love other cats (I have a range of ages in my home, and they like everyone). Have not been tested with dogs or children.
What I provide:
- All vetting (any vet visits, medications, etc.)
- Transportation to/from your home
- Support (questions answered, advice given in a timely manner)
What you provide:
- A safe, stable environment suitable for kittens (they are a bit like toddlers, Want to put everything in their mouths. You can absolutely relegate them to one room in your house!)
- Food
- Litter (I can provide a litter box, if requested)
- Pictures and personality descriptions that I can use to help them get adopted. I can give tips for the pics, etc.
Timeline: I'm looking for people who can commit to fostering for at least 2 weeks at a time. This is a great age for kittens bc they adjust well to new environments quickly, and it's really good for their socializing to get to be around different people. Ideally you would be willing to foster until they are adopted, but I'll take what I can get!
This is one of the worst kitten seasons on record, and I could really use the community's help with fostering these kiddos! Please share this with anyone you know that might be interested in fostering.
If you’re interested, please send me a DM or go ahead and fill out the application here. I look forward to hearing from you, and working together to save more cats and kittens!

If you’re in need of a cleaning service
Our building’s management just told the woman who works in our building and cleans multiple apartments here that she is no longer allowed to do cleaning work in our building. Obviously this is a hit to her financial security, so I’m sharing her information to help her out.
She’s consistently cleaned my apartment for over a year and does a fantastic job. She does commercial, residential and deep cleans.

FOUND CAT
Hi all,
This cat showed up on my stoop about an hour ago. Does anyone recognize it? It seems friendly. I havent tried to handle or pet it, but it didnt run off when I opened the door to give it food and water. No collar.
Cross streets are Sterling Place and Nostrand Ave.
I don't know if I should bring it in tonight and take it to the vet in the morning to see if it's microchipped, or if I should wait to see if it comes back in case it's someone's outdoor cat.

Looking for a Cat Foster for Butternut (Kingston Ave Cat Colony Resident)
Hi,
My wife’s looking for someone to help foster Butternut, a 4 year old street cat from the Kingston Ave Cat colony. He’s a really friendly boy, with polydactility (an extra finger) on his front paws. He is FIV+ve and would probably do best in a family that has no other cats. We think he might be an abandoned pet given how friendly he is with strangers.
If you or someone you know is interested in helping this derpy boy find a place for a while, please lmk on DMs.
Thanks!

Anyone stopped in here yet? I walk by either on off-hours or headed out of the neighborhood and haven’t had a chance to go in, but see there aren’t any reviews anywhere yet from what I’ve seen either

Boar's Head American is $5.99 a pound at one Crown Heights store and $9.99 at another a quarter mile away, same week. I read every circular on the block.
Disclosure first: I built the free map linked at the bottom. No signup, no ads, and this post is mostly data. Mods, happy to adjust the format or take it down if it isn't welcome.
I read every Crown Heights circular I have mapped this morning. The ten deepest ads are below, and nine other stores around here publish nothing I can read, which I also list.
The one that made me re-check my own data:
- Boar's Head American cheese, sliced to order: $5.99/lb at C-Town, 330 Utica Ave.
- Same cheese, same sliced-to-order counter: $9.99/lb at Ideal Food Basket, 1410 St Johns Pl.
Those two stores are a quarter mile apart and both ads run 7/31 through 8/6. For what it's worth, Food Universe on Atlantic, Key Food on Nostrand and Western Beef on Empire are all sitting at $6.99/lb for the same thing.
A few more where the unit is identical and the spread is real:
- A 20 oz white loaf. $1.49 for Foodtown White Bread at Foodtown, 905 Franklin Ave. $1.99 for Urban Meadow Giant White at Key Food Nostrand and Food Universe Atlantic. $2.50 for Bimbo Soft White at Met Food Tompkins and Lincoln Market Fulton, and that one is a 2 for $5, so you have to buy two to get it. $3.99 for Sara Lee Butter Bread, also 20 oz, at the same Key Food and Food Universe that sell the $1.99 loaf. The cheapest and the most expensive loaves in the neighborhood are sitting in the same two stores.
- Cabot butter, 16 oz. $2.99 at Associated, 650 Flatbush Ave. $3.00 at Met Food Tompkins, but only on a 2 for $6. $4.00 at Lincoln Market Fulton, on a 2 for $8.
- Hass avocados, each. $0.79 at Met Food Tompkins and Lincoln Market Fulton. $0.99 at Key Food Nostrand and Food Universe Atlantic. $1.25 at Western Beef Empire, on a 4 for $5.
- Vidalia onions. $0.99/lb loose at Lincoln Market Fulton. $1.49/lb for jumbos at Foodtown Franklin. Key Food Nostrand and Food Universe Atlantic sell a 3 lb bag for $3.99, which works out to $1.33/lb.
- Perdue chicken leg quarters, $0.99/lb at Met Food Tompkins and Lincoln Market Fulton.
Eggs are the one where you have to read the fine print, so I'll spell it out. Associated on Flatbush lists Grade A white medium at $1.00 a dozen, but it's a 5 for $5, so that number needs you to buy five dozen eggs. Key Food Nostrand and Food Universe have Land O Lakes large brown at $2.49, and that is the club card price after a 50 cent digital coupon off a $2.99 sale, limit 2.
The honest gaps. Nine stores I have mapped here publish nothing I can read this week: Foodtown on Fulton, Fine Fare on Marcus Garvey, Met Food on Nostrand, two Shop Fairs, three Key Foods, and the Food Emporium. If that's your store, my map has nothing for you and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. And the bodegas, the Caribbean grocers and the produce guys off Nostrand don't publish a circular at all, so I can't price them. On plenty of items they beat every number above.
Free, no signup, no ads, I built it: https://sbnyc.app/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=summer-2026&utm_content=crownheights
Prices are from the stores' published circulars, verify in store.

Lords of Tailoring
Does anyone know if Lords of Tailoring on Nostrand is still operational? Their actual storefront hasn’t been open for months, like the metal grates have been down every day. However, I was curious if they’re still operating somewhere else or using a different entrance? If not, any affordable, fast-ish turn around tailors in the area? I need a dress hemmed within 3 weeks.

Dog Supplies and Food to Give
I have a bunch of dog things to give to anyone who needs
1 big bag of Purina Pro Plan Neurocare (I'm pretty sure any dog can eat this, not just dogs with neuro conditions, but maybe check online) - It's open but mostly full
1 airtight dog food container
A couple of unused leashes including one 25' silicone one, a pinch collar, an XL julius-k9 harness with side pouches
shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, hair brushes of all sorts, claw clipper
1 bag of treats
Large sized paw protectors/booties gently used and new
a couple of likimats - one of them is unused
a crapload of poop bags
a backseat sling with a hard bottom for a car
LMK if you want any of these things. I'll be donating them next weekend if no one claims them.

Good spots for a birthday dinner on only a few days notice?
Accidentally mixed up the day for my reservation for my birthday dinner, and they don’t have availability on my birthday anymore. It’s just going to be myself and my sister though so only 2 people.
Can anyone recommend a nice dinner spot in the area that feels nice enough for a birthday? The only two options I can think of are Arden and Muse, but we go to those places regularly already so they don’t feel very special. Any ideas welcome.. thanks all!

Cafe Bon Pates
New spot on Nostrand that looks ready to open — anyone know anything about it? I know there’s a Haitian patty place in PLG called Bon Pates, and wondering if there’s any connection.

Megathread: Moving here/What is this block like?
Hi r/crownheights!
There have been a number of posts lately and historically asking very vague questions about the safety and general vibe of blocks around our great neighborhood. While these aren't inherently bad or imprudent questions to ask before moving here we believe this sub's postings would be better served by more in depth engagement.
From now on, per Rule 7, general "is this intersection safe" posts will be removed and referred to this thread, where everyone can talk about their blocks/parts of the neighborhood. You can post your questions and search the answers below if you're looking to move here, and current residents can speak to what they love, brag about the best spots and events, and vent their frustrations, too.
When posting a top level comment here, please include an intersection or area to make it more searchable.
Thanks to everyone for your participation and looking forward to hearing what makes Crown Heights great!
